Atmosphere - Several routes to the entrances of the castle, all of which take about the same time. We walked one route to the castle, and left with a different more scenic waterway route. Business hours are seasonal, see picture, Yelp, or website. It is best to check the website prior to going. But the walk to and from the castle is also good. Service - Good. Price - 18 pounds, not including a discount of almost 2 pounds when you show them you are from the cruise ship, see picture. Owner Suggestion - Congrats on your success since the 1540's.

Pendennis Castle is THE major historic attraction in Falmouth, and a must-see upon visiting this…read moresmall town on the Cornwall coast. Historically, the exhibits cover a period from between the reign of Henry VIII up to WWII, as Pendennis was still used as a military fort in the 1940s. In short: If you love cannons (And who doesn't!), you will want to visit this place! Also, you get splendid views of Falmouth Bay. The main castle compound is rather small indeed, and most of the "minor rooms" (like the quarter of the commandant) are essentially empty. No attempt has been made to re-create some of the furniture or objects to allow us a glimpse into how soldiers lived and worked during those days, which is what costs Pendennis Castle the fifth star in the rating, and even the printed information in the individual rooms is rather sparse. The main tower does feature a sizeable selection of historical cannons, and a (rather lame) black-and-white back projected attempt at an animation of how the soldiers were working the batteries. More impressive are the other military displays around the compound, and the fairly large grounds that you'll spend time walking in. These are mostly weapons from WWII, but there is another historic battery, too (some of the cannons are currently being restored). The area itself is a beautiful corner of Cornwall, and the views in and around the castle in themselves certainly merit a visit and the about UKP 10 you have to pay for them. The presentation is a tad old-fashioned, which also concerns the smallish gallery of barracks life, a building that also houses the rather lovely café with its nice outside seating area. All in all, Pendennis Castle makes a great day out for the family when the weather is good. A small shop features the usual souvenirs and you can also by a book-quality guide of the history of Pendennis Castle for a rather competitive UKP 4. There are no audio guides available. The staff were really nice and helpful when I visited, the atmosphere is very relaxed. See my pictures for a more detailed impression of the individual objects and attractions.

The theatre is small and atmospheric and the local am-dram performances can be good value for…read moremoney, although a little hit and miss. The only problem is that shows are not well advertised and if you are not a local, you may have trouble finding the spot as its down a local backroad mainly used by farm traffic. You won't be watching a play that changes your life here, but you may find a decent show that makes you laugh, and a night out thats a bit of a change from pretty much everything else that's available in newquay. Of interest to tourists - if you're staying at the nearby hendra touring park, this place is a 2 minute walk away - although you might find the camp nightlife just as entertaining!

Pirate paint ball is a good place to spend a day out with friends. They have two arenas, the woods…read moreand the field and you can do paintballing in one of these places. I have only been to the woods but it was great fun. The group is split in two and the two teams play against each other for about 6 games. I have really enjoyed paintballing here, and have come back several times. The instructors are very helpful and are very careful about health and safety. I has it's own car park and they supply all of the clothing for paintballing.

Theres a game where there is a flag in the centre in the field and in the object is to capture the flag and take it to the oppositions base but my friend didnt quite get the idea and ran the flag allway back to our base screaming and celebrating doh!. The second time i went i got stitched up by my friends who half of them did not turn up and the guys at Pirate really helped me out and didnt charge me the full cancelation for which i was really grateful. fantastic place

You learn all about how Semaphore was first…read moreinvented by an Englishman Robert Hooke and the kids (and adults) get to play with lots of gadgets and stuff which is good fun. The museum itself is underground and that in itself makes it fun, with mazes of tunnels to explore and find out how this revolutionary technique was started. Parking for disabled drivers and passengers is available close to the museum and disabled carers go in free. You can get drinks and ice creams and snacks to keep the kids happy.

We went to Poldark Mine a few years back. Most of the site is fully accessible to wheelchair users…read moreexcept of course the tour of the mine itself. However we still had a good few hours looking around the mine museum which was very informative and interesting and my kids loved that. Then my daughter had a go at 'panning for gold' which was a fun activity laid on by the mine staff. She had a lot of fun trying to find 'fools gold', and it was only cheap to let her have a go. There were plenty of things to look around at in the nice grounds and we had some lovely icecream in the pretty cafeteria. There is plenty of free parking onsite

As you would probably guess, the highlight of a visit to the site is actually getting to go down…read moreinto the mind. You are given an informative guided tour and get an idea of how bad it must have been having to go down it every day to work - GRIM! We couldn't even get into the whole mine as part of it had flooded overnight. A warning - be careful not to bang your head on the mine roof - you are given a safety helmet to wear but it still gives you a bump! There are also some amusements at the site and a couple of shops, but none of this really appealed and some of it looked a bit ropey. Apparently it gets its name from an old TV show that was partly filmed there, but I'm not old enough to remember what it is!

The Arts Centre (now called the Poly) is on the main street in town just past the Falmouth…read morebookshop, they have regular events almost every night ranging from theatre, music and they also have a small cinema that shows a lot of foreign films and art house productions that normally wouldn't get seen. They also show the usual blockbusters etc around a month after their release and because the cinema is so nice we often wait until then to go watch a film, with fewer people it's a much better experience. Also just as you go in the doorway, to the left they usually have a gallery display and to the right they occasionally have a book sale in the evenings after a film, i've picked up some fantastic books from there! Word of advice if you want snacks and nibbles during your film they sometimes have them on the counter but not always and not many, so pop across the road to Threshers and grab yourself a bag of something. Fantastically rich history : this place was designed & built in 1853 by Cornish…read more architect,Sivanus Travail in the English Gothic style.Bernard Leach the potter taught here,as did Ben Nicholson & Barbara Hepworth & was the Centre for British art for many pre war years. Latterly most famous for Terry Frost's work. It is beautifully stituated near the Penlee Art Gallery & gardens, just doors way, & minutes from the sea.

This is a very pretty theatre just a few minutes walk from the main shops in St Ives…read more We visted the theatre between Christmas and New Year to watch the youth theatre who were putting on the annual pantomime. We were a bit dubious and only really went for something to do during a weeks holiday but we had a really great time. The theatre is quite small and basic but very pretty with lots of lovely original features. The staff were really friendly and chatted with our children making them feel really special. The show itself was brilliant and really well put together. The children all worked so hard on the night and had obviously put lots of hard work into the show. There were good jokes, good singing and good acting. We were really plesantly surprised at just how good our night out at the theatre was. If we visit St Ives again, we would definately consider going to St Ives theatre again - Well done all!
