We went to this place for a Thursday lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. The place has a nice local ambiance. Like us, other consumers were American tourists. The service was friendly and timely. Their menu has an English translation. We ordered Aztec soup, Enmoladas compolllo, ( if I spell it correctly) and another Mexican specialty. The complimentary garlic bread was tasty. The dishes we ordered were also delicious. I am not that much familiar with Mexican cuisine, therefore, my rating may not be accurate. Lovely family-owned business on Hidalgo. Excellent food at reasonable prices, in a friendly, fun atmosphere.

The pizza was excellent. We ordered a traditional pepperoni and we didn't wait too long for it. We ordered some appetizers as well, garlic mushrooms and nachos. This is all that was left of it. we were too hungry and didn't take a pic! Would definitely recommend it. After trying to get a little bit further from the chaos of the center, my friend and I stumbled into Gombos. We ordered drinks and chips and guacamole initially and were really pleased with the service and quality of the food. The guacamole was a little spicier than we expected it to be but so delicious! When we ran out of chips on our plate but still had leftover guac, a waiter brought us some more before we even asked (which felt huge, since I feel like most countries don't offer free refills on things). We ended up sitting for awhile and eventually ordered dinner as well and the portion of pasta was huge. I had low expectations for ordering pasta in Mexico, but the carbonara was surprisingly good! This place was packed the entire time we were there, so it seems it's a not-so-hidden gem! My only complaint was the bathroom situation. There are two stalls....with no doors. So if you use the bathroom, be selfish and lock the main door if you want any privacy. read more

Came to this place in search for a heavy craving for Spaghetti Carbona this Friday night (Hr: 1920). I was a little hesitant on coming to this place because of the little reviews left on this place, scant pictures of food, and blurry images of the menu. However, this place is a gem in the midst of over priced foods and so-so service by the plaza. The walk was not bad from the center (approx 2 blocks). Walking in I was greeted by the owner and another staff member and sat us quickly. Our party was vibing with the music, it was not so loud that you can not carry a conversation at the table. After being seated, I went to the restroom (which Can use an update in lighting- but was satisfactory) and came back to complementary warm freshly made garlic bread which was flavorful (pictured below). After ordering our drinks (the mezcal was tasty and at a good price), I asked the staff to put the fútbol game going- they were happy to do so. The food came quickly and at a good temperature. Portion sizes were great and I was left feeling full prior to me finishing the dishes (and Im used to American portions). Overall I would come back. The staff was kind, food and drinks were tasty and at an affordable price. Would recommend to all my friends coming to the area- if vexing Italian. read more

FIRST...My favorite location is in Guadalupe on Tato Nacho! 4 years and I love them. Yes I'm a regular customer because I can walk there in 5 min. BUT Also you are treated so respectfully. May not be a big deal to YOU, my friend but it is to me. The young Manager, who is female, gives a BIG deal how she treats us. I order the lasagna carne, a lot and the delivery young man are so cute and friendly and kind. Tonight, last night, we have food delivered. Excellent spot. Service is amazing. If you've been in San Miguel for a few days, you already know that slow service is customary, give yourself the chance to enjoy a beer with clamato or a glass of wine while you wait for your food. I ordered a beef lasagna (they have a vegetarian lasagna too), my friends ordered chicken stuffed with cheese and spinach. I highly recommend both. Would definitely come back. read more

One of our favorites place in SMA, but we have never had pizza, until our most recent visit. Suffice it to say that pizza "is not" Gombo's strong suit & we won't order pizza again. Ordered the "sausage" & had visions of sausage, but actually received chopped up hot dog wieners instead. Cheese had zero flavor & the entire thing was floating in grease. Horrible. Don't think they use tomato sauce at all since we tasted none. On the plus side, the salads were excellent as always & service was very good. Will stick to the pastas & non-pizza dishes. Very disappointing since the pizzas are some of the highest priced items on the menu. read more

There are two Gombos, owned by the same folks, and I use the one which is located in my neighborhood of Colonia Guadalupe, corner of something and Tato Nacho. (not the one at Hidalgo 34). I live here, so I order for delivery, or go into this particular one quite often. I think you have to order several different meals over time to find your favorites, quite honestly...and then when you know what you like, you stick with it. Last night I ordered the Arrachara steak for the first time, and it was fantastic. I think the price was 160 or 190 pesos, which means it was under 10 usd. It was done exactly the way I ordered it, and came with guacamole, rice, beans and an enchilada. Two great glasses of Argentinian Malbec, and my friend's dinner of stuffed trout, with sides of veggies, rice and beans, and a glass of wine...all came to $410 pesos! It was New Year's Eve, so I tipped hearty and gave them a total of $500 pesos. We got out of there for $25 usd, and both were very satisfied with the service, the food, and the ambiance. 4 stars because some things are better than others. The chiles en nogada I haven't had, but the price on that meal is about $6 usd, so this place is worth it to try several times until you figure out what you like. I like their salads, the lasagna, spicy red enchiladas very much too. read more
