For once, a Chinese takeout restaurant is aptly named. When my family and I crave Chinese takeout, this is our go-to spot. Not only do they churn out large takeout orders in good time (our orders are typically quite large, and we've never had an issue in the thirty or so times we've ordered in the past), but it's always hot, well-seasoned, and well-prepared. Our orders typically include a 'something-and-broccoli' dish, and they always manage to cook the broccoli to perfect tenderness. I'll also add that this is the only takeout place (ever) where I've actually liked the sesame chicken. In most places, it's either too sweet, mushy, or overly sauced; here, it's dependably delicious. We've eaten here a few times, and remembered the food as pretty good. So we decided on this place for our take out. This time, because soup was one of the things we needed, we tried their wonton soup. First, it was barely lukewarm, and we are literally 5 minutes away. The wontons were the thickest, hardest, chewiest wontons we have ever encountered. Let me preface this by saying we've both been eating all different versions of Chinese food for 40+ years. The wontons were terrible. There is no other way to put it. We also ordered shrimp with snow peas. I am sure it would have been better than the wonton soup if that's what we actually had received. They gave us beef with snow peas instead. By now, we are just happy to have the decent roast pork lo mein that we actually ordered and received. I think we're done. I hate giving a small local business a bad review, but well, in my opinion, the food wasn't great. I ordered chicken and broccoli, steamed dumplings and chicken wings. The wings had flavor, but I could not finish them. When I took a bite, they had a yellow tinge to them. I'm not sure if it was fat, but it turned me off in a big way. The steamed dumplings were not good. At all! I could not tell what type of meat it was. But It didn't taste good. It also didn't smell good. I couldn't eat it. The chicken and broccoli tasted good, the portion was very small/sparse. Overall $23 down the drain. I definitely will not return. I have a favorite Chinese place in Parsippany, but I wanted to find something closer to Madison. My favorite place is more of a restaurant with some authentic Chinese food and dim sum. However, I don't always feel like taking the drive. I have one other local place to try out in Madison. If it doesn't work out. Then I'll have to travel 20 minutes for my occasional fix. read more

OK so here's the story.....they need to improve on some things. The fried rice is good. The egg rolls were nice and fresh. Good start right? Well the dumplings are to doughy and mushy as was the general tso chicken. The kung pow chicken was dried out and over cooked but the flavors were good. Overpriced, they short you on the protein in your dish and fill it with broccoli, and when called out on it, the "management," i.e., the loud, obnoxious lady who always works the register, screams at her customers, calls them liars, and says that she "doesn't need your business." Maybe she should put that hateful energy towards being a mother to her little boy instead, who is clearly not of legal working age and is consistently put to work at her establishment. She's probably right. The business won't suffer because the rich in Chatham will still be loyal to Good Taste, but it's a disgrace. Super tasty Christmas Eve meal from Good Taste! I tried the wonton soup, shrimp with mixed vegetables, and sesame beef and everything was wonderful. A family member had General Tso's chicken and egg rolls and gave a thumbs up to both. The wontons were tender and meaty in a delicious, non greasy broth. Would absolutely order this again. I'm so surprised at how tender the shrimp was. You know how take out shrimp can be rubbery? Not the case here. And there were so many veggies. Yay. Would absolutely get shrimp here again. The sesame beef was very good too with some broccoli on the bottom. I forgot the meat in this dish is heavily fried so this wasn't the best thing to eat pre-holiday meal, hah. But it didn't sit in my stomach the way greasy food sometimes can. Oh also, the spice was very mild so next time I might ask for spicy when I order and see what happens. I've been going to good taste for several years the food has been very average/ adequate and sometimes not very good but tonight was the worst experience ever. . Tonight I came home from vacation exhausted. I ordered the spare ribs on the bone . They came totally burnt overloaded with sauce with old shriveled meat. I called nicely to tell the owner and he started scresming at me. I am horrified by his behavior. The meat also tasted bad there was hardly any meat on the bone and it was totally burnt. Ok 5 stars for a take-out meal may seem silly but this is my new go-to Chinese Take-Out place. We had tried it a year or so ago and recently came back when I was in the mood for hot and sour soup when coming down with a cold. The past few months, the food has really improved in quality. Yes, we still order the fried General Tsos Chicken (we are not trying the most modern culinary trends hehe)but the chicken is all white meat, the broccoli is fresh and the fried rice not too greasy. They are fast, like super fast. Order ten minutes before you will be there so it's hot and ready for you! They deliver quickly too! I really like their hot and sour soup. My family has been ordering food from here for 10+ years. Occasionally we will go to Empire Szechuan, which we also like, but Good Taste is always awesome and fast. I'm not entirely sure what these other reviewers are talking about... This has consistently been the best Chinese I've ever had in the Chatham area. It's always cooked well, the meat is tender and delicious, the sauces are flavorful, and the service is great. One day they forgot to give me my beloved dumplings (they have never forgotten anything before). We called them up to ask if we could come get them, and they were immediately apologetic and insisted on driving out to our house (on the entirely opposite side of Chatham) to bring us that single dish. And the dumplings were good, too! This place is just for take-out, so don't go in expecting to have a sit-down meal. It's not gourmet but the food is good for delivery or take out-- I've been ordering from them since my college days. The service is fast and efficient; I've never placed an order and had it get mixed up. The food isn't overly greasy or MSG saturated. I personally like their cold sesame noodles and sesame chicken. Okay if you don't mind steamed dumplings that are made super thick and gummy, bland and flavorless, having your order changed with something of equal value because they didn't want to make what you ordered and entree sauces made with water, lots of cornstarch and artificial food coloring. Just awful...even the white rice was tasteless and felt bits of hard plastic. The fried dumplings were fried large amounts of dough with a teaspoon of filling. That being said not only is the restaurant very clean and Service is excellent being a former food service director at Ramapo College the food is outstanding and not only fresh made to order the RIBS are out of this word. This is our local Chinese takeout after sampling a bunch of different ones in Morristown. Yes, you pay slightly more, but the food is better. After trying many things, the best dishes are shrimp with broccoli with white sauce, shrimp mei fun, and chicken lo mein. It's kind of funny giving five stars to a Chinese take-out place, but Good Taste is just about as good as Chinese take-out can get. It's definitely the best Chinese take-out in the Chatham/Madison area. The prices are a bit high but really only like $.50 more than some other places. Some favorites: the wonton soup comes with five wontons in a pint and the broth is always nice and flavorful. The shrimp here are always good, my favorite is shrimp with garlic sauce. The sauces too are very good. There is always a little oil but it's not bad compared to other places. The pork fried rice is also great, it's always got LOTS of pork and vegetable bits and has a nice fried taste, not just yellow rice like some places serve. The other awesome thing is the waiting time is crazy short. I can order an entire meal for take-out, soup, fried rice, and a pint of something, and it is often ready in 10 minutes or less.
