However, when it came to closing, my closing was…read moredelayed a day due to their lack of due diligence of ensuring the builder of my new condo build provided the correct master insurance binder letter. Because of this, my lender didn't want to close. The lawyer's office was not proactive in advising me of this issue until I called them to ask when I was getting my keys. They then asked me to provide them with my builders contact info. (Shouldn't they have already had this informaton?!) With only just an hour to close, they were not able to get the corrected binder letter, and then they had the audacity to tell me it was my lenders fault. I did all the closing paperwork and payment a few days before hand, so they had plenty of time to identify they had the wrong information from the builder and could have corrected it in time. After being upset that I didn't close on time, as it was a huge inconvenience to me, I was then told I should not have expected to get my keys on closing day, and that they had previously especially informed me of this. This was a complete outright lie. I was told not to expect my keys before 5pm on closing day. I have several properties and have had multiple closings, and never have I ever been delayed in getting keys especially when the closing should have been as cookie cutter as this with a new condo build.

While our lawyer was personable and attentive in person, we really got the impression that the day to day work was done by a law clerk who did not seem to know what she was doing. Our transaction was a fiasco from beginning to end. There were lengthy delays answering emails, long delays providing closing figures, incorrect and insufficient information provided to us on several occasions and unprofessional behaviour by admin staff. For instance, after calling several times and asking for information that was needed for closing, I called a third time and told the secretary that I was frustrated that no one had returned my call since it was time sensitive. One of the clerks finally responded to me by email and the subject line of the email was unbelievably "[My name] is "frustrated" (LOL)". Yes it actually included the LOL! How incredibly unprofessional. I spoke to our lawyer about this but I didn't feel that he had taken it seriously at all. Another time, they responded to me with confidential financial information and cc another person that I don't even know! The person had the same first name as my husband. When I pointed this out, there was no apology. It was obvious that neither our lawyer nor law clerk had properly read out mortgage document because they both misquoted information contained in it. Their error very nearly ended up costing us almost $2000 and we had to spend considerable time and effort to correct their error. Their handling of our transaction caused us considerable stress and aggravation at both our interim and final closing. We would absolutely NEVER consider using this firm again! Terrible experience!!

Realestatelawyers.ca returned phone calls within one business day, does not charge bank fees if you deal with one of the 5 major banks in Canada, and does not charge for online signing (no software fees, no online signing fees, etc.). So their pricing was very transparent, and they provided good service, everything went smoothly. They also provided good after sales support when needed. They also have the most flexible schedule, they will sign 7 days a week, from morning until 10 or 11 p.m.

Needed to have a will and power of attorney done. Before I go on please be advised that this is truly a discount law firm where the savings are passed on to you. There is no fancy furniture, no large closed in offices nor are there bright reception areas. The clerk I met with was punctual casually well dressed and well groomed. His knowledge of estate law was excellent while discussing my situation our discussion frequently crossed over into family law and real estate law. He was willing to do more that he was only required to do. Heartfelt apologies for failing to remember his name. Remember this is a discount law firm where there are no fancy business cards. Expect only hard nosed advice and straight up no holds barred reality when it comes to family law questions. The only thing I found a little off was that business is conducted in an open air cubicle with people out and about out side the office. If privacy is a concern for you then be prepared to pay substantially more at a fully decked out law firm. If you are like me you know that people around you have their own problems and do not have time to dwell on yours. The savings of 40% are what attracted me as well as the free parking. Sorry for being so long winded but I hope this helps. I will use their services again even if it means they'll take a little more time.
