So I'll give Goode three stars because the equipment they installed and the work was pretty good, or I assume it is--really, only time will tell, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt. But I have to knock off a couple stars because they are simply expensive as hell. I called about a starting-to-fail ejector pump. They sent someone right over that day which, in retrospect, should have been my first clue. Two guys showed up; only one spoke to me. What he went right off the bat into was more of a sales pitch than a description of the problem and the solution. He even talked about joining some VIP service they have even before talking about the specifics of the job at hand. Uh huh. OK. For replacing the ejector pump, valve, and some related items, the cost was on the order of $1,700. Mmmm, that's a lot, and I considered just paying the $60 for the visit and taking a chance on getting another vendor in to bid on the job. But, the pump was starting to fail, and knowing firsthand the pain and agony of a flooded basement, I decided to bite the bullet and go through with the job which, really, that's gotta be central to their business model, right? Get people at that sweet point they have to say yes to their services or else? Now, again, the work seems to be acceptably good, but like I said, the price. They installed a Metropolitan MHP-20160 which you can get online for something like $360 (sumpdirect.com/ion-techn...). You gotta figure, Goode ain't paying more than that for the piece. Maybe a couple hundred extra for some ancillary items they have to install along with it, like valves and the like. So I would guess we're talking maybe $550 or so for materials. They charged $1,700 for the job. That would be a 200+% markup. Now, I understand labor costs and the like as much as the next reasonably-educated lay person, so when I get the bill, and it says, basically, "$1,700, pay me," I'm like ... hmmmmm. I emailed the company and asked, can you send me a line item invoice breaking out labor, extra charges, etc.? I've hired a lot of companies to do repair stuff around my house, so that's pretty common. Their reply? "Hello, We do not itemize invoices." Well. You don't say. Now, I will say once more, the work seemed pretty good, so far, and as far as I can tell, so no complaints about that out of the chute. So if you're someone for whom money is no object, then Goode Plumbing should be as good as any other company with a 4-star overall Yelp rating to satisfy your plumbing needs. However, if you're like the rest of us, for whom money is decidedly an object, then if you have the luxury of a little time, you might want to shop around your plumbing business to some of the other majors to see whether you can get work as good as or better than Goode for less money. I called Goode plumbing for a second opinion when another plumber threw a HUGE estimate at me to fix a single pipe. I've been around the block enough to know that shopping solely on price with contractors is a bad idea. You can save money here and there but if you're after nickels and dimes you're just doing yourself a disservice as a customer. But boy was I relieved when Goode's estimate for the same work was less than half of the other company's price! The plumber on site was clear to me about what was wrong and why, and how the fix would be done. He was also familiar with the type of material in the building and was honest with me about options to go "above and beyond" vs "just do what needs to be done to get a confident fix". They did the work, at less than half what the other company said it'd cost, and my leak is gone. I'll come back to them for any big job I need. read more

Called for plumbing service. They were very nice and prompt and everyone I talked to seemed knowledgeable. Got a quote for $3,500 to fix our problem. Yikes! The diagnosis didn't really seem like it made sense to me, and I wasn't a out to shell out that much without more investigating, so I did some more research and decided to check a few things. Turns out I was able to diagnose the issue myself, a 40 something mom of two jumped up on a ladder, went on the roof, and within minutes found the clog that was the source of my issues! $50 later my problem was fixed by a more more reasonable plumber with a power rooter. Im thankful I decided to to investigate more before spending that much hard earned money. I dont necessarily think they were trying to mislead me, but it was a major miss in terms of a diagnosis. This company gouged us for the work they did installing a tub and supposedly "correcting" some plumbing issues we had . They charged us 8000 dollars to do this and at the time we reluctantly paid because we had trouble finding a good plumber for months. Thought we found one with Goode, but NO they will charge you double than standard rate and when we complained a week later that our toilet was clogged and sewage was coming up through the tub and shower. John Lackenmacher , the "quality assurance specialist" who a week ago assured that this would never happen because they would do it right, he couldn't remember anything about the job and was very defensive and more interested in blaming me about being upset than he was going to do anything about it. He kept passing buck to other people who did nothing to solve this issue but tried to swindle us for more $$$ When the plumbers came to inspect the trouble they made the claim that nothing was problematic with their job. They said for another 875 they would unclog our stack of all the debris left from the construction job they did which was left in there. Their "lifetime warrantee" is a sham because they claim nothing is their responsibility They charge double what other companies charge and their work is very suspect to be incompetently completed . DO NOT USE GOODE PLUMBING!!!! Goode Plumbing was horrible from beginning to end. I had a leak in my toilet which I discovered when it dripped into my garage. The tech from Goode just tightened the bolts on the bowl and gave me an outrageous bill for $325. He was here about 10 minutes and spent most of that time trying to sell me an $800 toilet. It didn't fix the issue, it was a leaky donut ring. Customer service called when I said I wasn't happy with their service. The woman took the info and said she would get back to me. She never did. I finally called again and got the bitchiest customer service rep who spent the whole time repeating "you signed off on an estimate." There was no estimate for the repair. The lazy tech just tightened some bolts and wrote up a ridiculous bill. NOTHING WAS POSITIVE ABOUT WORKING WITH GOODE PLUMBING. I recommend avoiding them. read more

I needed two bathroom faucets and sink drains installed. I already had purchased the new fixtures. Goode came out to look at the potential job and quoted me $1400 (plus any materials that might be needed). I was flabbergasted. This was a straightforward job. I expected it might take up to two hours to complete. When I told the onsite technician that I thought the price was ridiculous and that I would find another plumber, he called his boss to discuss lowering the price. The boss offered to bring it down to $1250--still ridiculous. I had another plumber I found on Yelp come out, and they did the job for $550 (plus the cost of incidental materials). THAT price was reasonable, and the work was excellent. Goode Plumbing has done good work for me in the past, but they consistently charge way too much. I can only assume it's because enough of their customers are naive about what such projects cost in the current market. Because of this, Goode seems predatory to me. read more

We had massive rains and my basement flooded for the first time ever. We were panicked, we clearly had lost a lot of cherished items we'd stored on the floor. It was terrible. Worse, there was a slim chance our flood insurance might not cover it. We were pulling our hair out with worry. Enter Goode Plumbing. Goode sent a camera down our pipes to the city main to show that our system was free from roots or other maintenance problems. Insurance would cover it. But more rain was due by the end of the week. In fact, our basement did flood again! It was a horror show with water and mud and . . . stuff . . . everywhere. We realized we needed preventative measures so Goode sent Ian and Frank who very graciously ignored our mess and set to work on our draining system. And man, what a job they had before them! Our house is 83 years old and we're pretty sure it was plumbed by aliens-everything is the wrong size, everything is in the wrong place, everything is just weird. Frank and Ian had to dig pretty deep into the floor but the eventually excavated the ancient fittings and valves, replaced them, smoothed over our floor, and made it look like nothing had ever happened. The water mitigation people came and cleared out everything to the studs. Then it rained again. Hard. Water standing in the street. My back yard was a lake. Exactly the same conditions as when we flooded before. I went down to the basement fearing I'd find a brand new indoor pool but instead I found a perfectly dry floor. Frank and Ian worked with great respect to conditions imposed by the pandemic, and with great respect for our old house. They kept me in the loop when they had to leave for parts and they checked in with me to make sure everything was fine. Goode explained the bill with great care and consideration. I didn't call them first. I've been using the same plumber for 20 years. But he's retiring and suggested I call Goode. Do you know how hard it is to find a trade worker you feel comfortable with? Completely dissatisfied and disgusted with two recent jobs by Goode Plumbing, especially considering that I am a repeat customer (3 jobs in 2020-2021) who had a good experience with this company in the past. Not only did they not do the job as outlined in the estimate/proposal ("rebuild a vintage shower"... in fact they did not rebuild anything), but even worse, now the shower is not functioning at all. So, I paid $1,700 to have damage to my vintage shower that will now cost me at least $1,200 to fix (according to another plumber). Not to mention that they kept my credit card on file without my authorization and charged the final payments without my authorization. Also the scheduling and follow up from the office staff was pathetic. One person seemed to know what was going on and another, completely clueless. I had another company that was going to do more of the job but they were not returning my calls. So, Goode got the job. Tl;dr: DO NOT USE GOODE. This company was dishonest, misleading, horrible with communication, and jeopardized the sale of our home. Our experience with this company was an absolute nightmare, and we want to share our experience so others can avoid making the same mistakes we did in trusting Goode. We hired Goode to replace a flood control system while we were in the process of selling our house. Their quote was $2K higher than another bidder but we chose them for their reputation. They started the job the day before the home inspection and absolutely tore up our front yard and paver sidewalk. The existing flood control was to the side of the sidewalk, but the hole they dug was about 5 times larger and directly in front of our front steps. That hole remained there for over 5 weeks. Nothing was disclosed upfront about the destruction of the front yard and sidewalk, and we spent $900 repairing the damage they caused. They also told us on this first day that the manhole cover may be directly in the middle of our sidewalk. Even the guys digging the hole said this should have been explained to us. We battled with Goode for weeks and ultimately the cover was placed just to the side of the repaired sidewalk. The project was then paused while we waited for the City to inspect the project and issue the permit. Finally we were told the permit was granted and the hole would be filled in, but only *after* an electrician came out to run a new line. Nothing about electric was disclosed to us previously and running a new line would require opening up drywall in our basement. We also had to coordinate separately with the electrician to make the appointment, and he was backed up so it took over a week for him to come to the property. When he finally came by, no one from Goode showed up to remove the cover over the giant hole so we had to wait another week for him to come by again. Ultimately the job turned out to be simple and we waited 3 weeks for the electrician to do a 1 hour job that required no access to the home. In the meantime, in response to our buyers' concerns, we called Goode nearly daily to fill in the massive hole in our front yard. They finally said they could fill most of the hole while leaving an opening for the remaining electrical work. After the hole was partially filled, guess who showed up at the property? The City, because Goode had not secured permits after all. This caused another delay while we waited to actually get the permit from the City. The City finally approved the permit on a Friday morning, when we were moving out of the property the following Tuesday morning. Goode refused to fill the hole until Monday, which meant the yard and sidewalk repair would need to be done after we'd moved out of the state. This ultimately worked out with the help of our realtor but was a giant pain in the neck and huge stressor in an already stressful situation. But you know what Goode is timely about? Collecting its bill. The very next day after they finally filled the hole, while we were driving cross-country to our new house, Goode called asking for its payment. We explained how unhappy we were about the handling of the project and asked them to make it right. They ultimately reduced the cost by $500, which did not even cover the repair of the undisclosed yard and sidewalk damage. But our hands were tied as we needed to provide an invoice to our buyers before closing. Bottom line: Goode is no good! Do not use them and if you do, be prepared for rampant miscommunication, dishonesty, and completely preventable delays. read more

This company was responsive and quick. They came to assess the work the same day I called for a quote and sent the plumbers to do the repairs later that day. However, the initial contact did try to upsell on two items that were unnecessary. They quote by the job not by the hour, so be aware that if you have a simple repair, you are likely to overpay. One repair took them 5 minutes and I paid over $300 for it. The part replaced cost about $16. The other repair took about 25 minutes and they charged me over $500, another simple repair with standard parts. These guys are good for expediency but they are on the higher end of prices quoted (they were about $50 more per repair than another plumber who quoted via text with pictures but was not available for several days). Suggesting expensive but unnecessary work takes off a star as does the bombardment of texts and emails asking me to review them. So they are good in a pinch but I can't say that I'm thrilled that I paid over $800 for 25 minutes work, and I am more than a little disturbed that they would have done costly unnecessary repairs if I hadn't been firm on saying no. read more

Extremely overpriced I just paid a whopping $967 for Goode Plumbing to replace my outdoor frost proof faucet , a job that took a few hours was not complicated. I AM KICKING MYSELF FOR BEING THE SUCKER THAT OVERPAID. I have no issues with the process of scheduling the appointment, and the service provided. Chip was friendly professional, and explained what needed to done. But there is way no way that this price was justified by the work done, the time spent, nor the part replaced. And upon a brief internet search, frost proof faucets cost under $100. Goode Plumbing does not charge by the hour, rather by the service provided. Yet upon inquiring about the breakdown of the price before agreeing to the work, I was told the "system" doesn't itemize the cost. RED FLAG. I would say I was ripped off, but I consented to the work after being given the quote. I don't know why I agreed except that I promised my spouse that, though I have replaced most of the faucets in our house, I would not attempt any other type of plumbing work on my own. Basement began to flood during a heavy storm we reached out to a handful of services and Goode were amongst the few that called back and the only ones to listen to what was occurring. John the associate who answered the call was incredibly empathetic and assured us that a plumber would be dispatched immediately even though it was very late in the evening. Jonathan arrived, was kind and professional and got to work right away, he ran into a snag and called Michael in to assist who was also incredibly nice and knowledgeable, the whole ordeal took a few hours where I would clear water and work around them. I will gladly call them and depend on them in an emergency and am very happy to now know they will be there if something were to happen. All in all it was a mainline blockage, our sump pump worked fine but backflowed water into our floor drains, they performed a rodding of the mainline and catch basin out to the street, confirmed with a camera once it was cleared, and explained options for future maintenance and mitigation. There was a $250 emergency fee which I was not aware of but was understandable and the cost of the service brought the total to just shy of a grand. Not terrible. 100% worth it. We woke up on a Saturday with a sewage smell in our basement. Low and behold, our ejector pump had failed, and the pit was full. I am a real estate broker in Chicago, and have worked with many different plumbing outfits over the years. My go to plumbing company was not able to dispatch a plumber until Monday morning. With this being the ejector pit filled with sewage, I preferred to not have to wait 2 days. I called Goode Plumbing based on a referral from one of my colleagues. Within 1.5 hours, they had two plumbers at my home to assess, and quote out the project. I gave them the go-ahead, and within 20 minutes the work was underway. Now, I would definitely not say that the work was cheap, BUT they were extremely clean, quick, and beyond professional. They did exactly what they said they would do, disinfected the area after the work completion, and left without a trace of ever having been there! Was very pleased with their work overall. I would say they are a tad pricey, but over the years, I have learned time and again that you get what you pay for, and Goode Plumbing definitely delivered. We had a wobbly toilet in our brand new condo. Initially we just thought something was loose that needed tightened screws or caulking so we hired fixer. But the individual fixer determined the problem should be held by a master plumber (basically the flange was cracked). So Goode came up in a Reddit review with top stars so we called them (along with five other companies). Goode was the only one to pick up, asses the situation over the phone and know that it was a flange problem. I asked about their next availability and they responded with "today!" Sure enough an hour and a half later they were here. They assessed the situation and provided us guidance. At the end of the day our toilet is fixed, Adan did a fantastic job, was pleasant, and respectful, and did an ace job. I'm not a plumber but when a toilet is out of business (off the sewage line and we have a cat that we didn't want to expose to... you know what) Goode was the first to respond and provide quality service. I did not shop around for a quote because I trusted them based off of the quality recommendations. You pay for what you get.. and I'm happy with our results. read more

Refuse to provide estimates/quotes despite multiple requests and explaining the problem and just kept saying they need to send a person out where they can they charge a "dispatch" fee which is waived if you choose to use them.
