I don't know about other men but I like to have my hair cut/styled and then leave. I have been to Chaps twice, had a good haricut from a different stylist each time but it has taken ages. The last time I went I was in there two hours - I have no clue why it took so long as my hair looked no different to how it does when I go to a traditional barbers. I also find for the area it's expensive. I now use a barber in Fleet Street therefore I am paying city prices. My city barber is cheaper than Chaps!

Opening on a Sunday is a really good idea and very helpful if you work late all week in away from the city. In fact it's so subtle on the outside I walked passed it twice when I was specifically looking for it. The journey was well worth it. The interior feels like an urban loft with exposed brick, a rope and bare lightbulb chandelier, and bumping tunes. Very welcoming, I got my choice of beverage on arrival. All the stylists are very attentive and offer a wide range of services at really reasonable prices. I saw a man getting his beard groomed and hair trimmed, a woman getting extensions, and someone else getting a gorgeous curled blow out. My thick hair had reached hippie lengths and had become unmanageable. I wanted something fresh and chic but very low maintenance. My stylist, the lovely Shivonne (sp?) was very helpful and knowledgeable, suggesting a collarbone-length cut with layers cut from the top (with very flattering results!), and even tips to care for my hair and skin after drying out from London's hard water. They take walk-ins but on a Saturday during an Arsenal game it filled up fast so for peak times call first to make a booking. Wash, cut, and blowout normally costs 29 pounds (more for a senior stylist) but a 20% discount is on offer for first time customers. Will definitely return!

Unfortunately he was fully booked for that evening's free haircuts but said to email him, and he'd sort me out. I DID NOT do this. This is a review based on booking an appointment online, and then paying for it. They give freebies during the event and I'm all for it. I'm not going to ask for one just because I was late and missed out. Booked for 2pm with Amanda (hadn't read Oliver M's review at the time, and happy I didn't). She was a little late, only five minutes or so but came over and asked if that was okay. It was a half hour slot but in the end I ended up being in the chair for 45 minutes, okay as there was no one after me, and it's easy to see how they could get a little backed up. We spent about 5-10 mins discussing my hair before she started cutting, so she understood what I was looking for, but I gave her a fair amount of freedom, always interested to see what someone new will do with my hair. I came out looking good, and with a nice new variation on my usual short back and sides. Very happy and I think, as its only 2 mins walk from work, that I have a new local barber!
