Went to Goosefeather yesterday solo, arrived at approximately 8:45pm, no reservation. The place was packed. I was told that there will be a table available in a few minutes. Went to the bar and ordered a glass of vino. The bar was hopping. They do have a lounge menu but I decided to wait for the table. After about 5 minute wait my table was ready. The restaurant is located in the The King Mansion at the Tarrytown Estate in Tarrytown, NY. The restaurant has four grand separate dinning rooms plus a bar. It is very impressive with high, I mean high ceilings. The ceilings have Miroesque murals. Perused the menu, everything sounded good, finally ordered: Scallion Pancakes with Cultured Butter & Aged Soy Vinegar Dry-Age Beef Potstickers with Chinese Mustard with Horseradish Char Sui Berkshire Pork with Grilled Scallion and Spicy Mustard The Potstickers arrived first. The plating was nice, they looked good, nicely browned & dough look thin. Took a bite...and another...and the filling fell out...it did say Dry-Aged - didn't expect a hockey puck and absolutely no flavor, mustard was the redeemer. I get better potstickers from Asian supermarkets Next came the Scallion Pancake. Again, the plating was very nice. The pancakes were deep-fried, very thin and crispy, you can see the scallions. First bite...second bite...oily, can't taste the scallions, bland, in this instance the vinegar was the redeemer. Too oily didn't finish all. Last came the Char Sui. Plated very nicely. First bite...ok not too bad, a bit more flavor than the previous two dishes. Nicely bbq'ed and layered with fat - succulent but still lacking on big flavor. Again better Char Sui from Chinatown markets. I had high hopes for the food but was disappointed. I'm on a low sodium diet so for me to say it was not seasoned speaks for itself. Perhaps my tastebuds were asleep or on strike that evening. The service was very good no complaints there. Pricing not bad. I'll give it another try in six months or so. The food here is insanely good. We started with the play on a crab rangoon, the hen of the woods mushroom, and wings. Black pepper beef, walnut shrimp, and lobster and clam noodles were our mains. Grape ice for dessert. Everything, yes everything was outrageous. Best wings I ahve ever had. I could eat that mushroom dish everyday and never get tired of it. Crab app was so good i had to order a second because my 4 year old twins housed it. Mains were also perfect. Tender beer, big juicy shrimp, and those noodles had the best chew. The food here is mediocre at best. $40 for a smallish Chinese food dish, and there's nothing that wows. We had the prawns with walnuts (just ok), the salmon tartar (also just ok- not a tartar though more like a sushi on a fried rice stick), and the scalllion pancake. The pancake was the best of the three. There was a watermelon type dessert and it was really underwhelming as well. Ambiance is interesting, it's an 1840 mansion split up into various rooms you can dine in and they are cool but the entire thing is a bit hyped up. We got some Wine by the bottle - not impressed. Wanted to go for some time and happy we went. The food was good but the after the food was something interesting. We felt the same way after eating Asian/American food from the late 1980's early 1990's. Maybe overly salted or MSG was used. We both had a terrible headache and felt bloated. We did enjoy everything we tried and the drinks were very good. Would go back to try it again but would want to know if they use msg first. That will be the deciding factor. read more

I recently had lunch at Goosefeather in Tarrytown, and while the food was delicious, the service and overall experience left a lot to be desired. We arrived early and went to the bar to grab a drink while waiting for the third person in our group. Despite three bartenders behind the bar, none of them even acknowledged us or offered to serve us. After standing there for a while without any luck, we spoke to the hostess, who kindly seated us early. Once we were at the table, things didn't improve. Our waiter took forever to bring our drinks, and to make matters worse, he started the 90-minute bottomless brunch clock as soon as we sat down, instead of when we placed our order. It made us feel rushed and like we were being hurried through the meal. As for the food, it was great, but when the bill came, we were shocked to see it was $140 per person for just the three of us. All we had were three appetizers, three entrées, and the bottomless drinks. For lunch, this price seemed really steep, especially given the poor service. While the food itself was tasty, the combination of slow, inattentive service and the unexpectedly high price means I won't be returning--and I wouldn't recommend it to others either. Good food just doesn't make up for bad service and an overpriced meal. read more

We went here with friends and had a wonderful meal and drinks! Our preferred menu items were the potstickers, dumplings, supreme and crab rice and the delicious scallops! We also had an excellent chocolate tart for dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed my St. Agnes drink which I was told was named after the owner/chef's wife. To be fair, I wasn't very happy with my hotel stay (Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson) and we were left feeling like this was our ONLY choice, so maybe this review is a bit jaded. It was barely OK. I did like that there was an option to order takeaway from the outdoor bar, as the time to dine in the restaurant was ludicrous. The bartender was friendly and patient, mixed decent drinks, and directed us to some available seats to wait for our food. The food runner was friendly and went out of his way to make sure we had all the utensils, napkins, etc before we headed back to the room. But the food-- it wasn't gross, but it wasn't right. Pork belly was actually nice, but only served with some plum slices-- no rice or noodles or anything. Shrimp with walnuts- some nice crispy shrimp, but drowned in yum-yum-like sauce (and why blueberries?) And the crab scallion pancake-- it tasted pretty good. But it was puff pastry topped with some crab-flavored stuff. Anyone who has visited Asia--or even a decent Asian street food festival-would tell you that it was NOT a scallion pancake. Call it something else. To top it off, this disappointing snack-like meal cost us just short of $200. We ordered the wok tossed greens, Dan Dan noodles, Supreme rice, Pork belly, Warm mushroom, Crispy shrimp Bao, and potatoes. The dishes were good, particularly the Bao, potatos, and wok tossed greens. They were all well portioned and paced well, though some could say an hour and a half dinner for relatively quick eaters is not ideal. Another critique we had was that many of the dishes were overly salty/flavored. For example, the supreme rice was delicious, but left our mouths with a very salty after taste, and it was not the only one. However, the dish selection and seasonal menu is really unique and delicious overall, and hard to find anything similar in Westchester. The ambience is nice and the servers are friendly. Since we are repeat customers, we will be back to dine again, but this experience hasn't necessarily made us more eager to revisit. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful old mansion house and it has so much character. To the food and cocktails. We stayed in the hotel attached for a week last year so we probably went through everything on the menu re food and cocktails. We even did brunch most mornings. Everything and I mean everything is delicious, both food and cocktails. If I could eat there every day I would. Special shout out to the Brussel Spouts side dish. They are unreal. Also forgot to mention the staff. From the moment you are greeted by the lovely front of house lady when you arrive, you know you are in for something special and the waiters and bar staff don't disappoint. Goosefeather is unique in many ways. Located in The King Mansion at the Tarrytown House Estate one would almost welcome a tour of the house and grounds before sitting down for a meal. There are four separate dining rooms as well as a bar with outdoor seating during spring / summer months. We paid two visits to Goosefeather - One Sunday Brunch and one James Beard Charity which proved to be a wonderful event. Our Sunday brunch included the "Crispy Brussels Sprouts" which was simply fantastic. The "Fried Chicken Dumplings - not so - bland tasting and forgetful. The shared menu offerings at the charity event were off the charts. Chef Dale stopped by a number of times explaining the menu selections as he seemed to truly enjoy himself as this event - as did his guests. Service was polite but a bit confusing at times as we had to change our seating arrangement three times before finally settling in to enjoy the evening. read more

Table was never cleared nor were dishes changed between courses unless we requested it. This was not at all what I expected. Talde is a well known Fil-Am chef who has recently established yet another Asian fusion restaurant, now in Westchester County. I was really looking forward to trying out Goosefeather, but I personally feel as though its food comes up a bit short. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in its outdoor dining space is perfect for dinner parties up to 10-12 people from late spring through early fall. Since Goosefeather is on the higher end of pricing for dining, I personally make the taste of its food as the final verdict on my overall review. We first had the potstickers and shrimp bao. To be honest, both were amazing, and I was sad that there wasn't enough! Plus, I had to share with my family. The shrimp in the baos were so crispy and perfectly flavored with the fluffy bao. I would certainly recommend the baos if you were to ever go! As for the main plates, I was thoroughly disappointed. Overall, each plate either was way too salty or just awkwardly flavored for something that appears to be another dish. The slippery noodles, which looks too much like pad see ew from Thailand, just tasted like something was missing. Since the dish looked but didn't taste like pad see ew, it was hard to truly like it. The black pepper beef was way too salty. Not good. Not much more to say. Lastly, the pork belly was okay. I think I appreciated its simplicity versus the complexity of all the other dishes. Unfortunately, I would not be personally inclined to go back to Goosefeather because of its price point and my overall opinion on its food. Had a wonderful meal here! The ambiance is beautiful and I love how they decorated for the holidays - it's warm, cozy, but still with a funky vibe. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. They're small plates so you're encouraged to order a lot for the table and share. The cauliflower was a little too salty/saucy for our liking but everything else was delicious (wings, truffle rice, potatoes). Our server was attentive and friendly - though we did feel a little rushed at times. Been wanting to try this place for a while, so we made reservations for my birthday to have brunch. Overall it was a pleasant experience, though there were some things I didn't enjoy. They weren't enough of a deterrent to never return, but noteworthy enough to remove a star. Likes: The food was fantastic. Among the favorites during brunch were the shrimp bao, crab rangoon scallion pancake, and the sausage egg and cheese fried rice. Each of these were so flavorful and I was sad when they were gone. We had a party of 3 so I appreciated that we were able to order a 3rd without having to get 2 orders. I loved the fried rice, and found it to be so flavorful with ample egg and sausage throughout. The mochi waffle was such a great texture and the eggs were perfectly fluffy. Dislikes: Waitstaff was not very attentive, didn't come to check on us and we had to flag him down to request hot sauce for my wife's eggs. They don't have hot sauce which I find hard to believe. We got chili oil brought to us instead and it has no kick to it. The desserts were a letdown. Only 2 options available, a waffle and a sundae. I just feel like they got lazy here. This restaurant has such a creative menu throughout and then it just falls flat with dessert. Restaurants of this caliber usually aim to leave things on a high note with a banging dessert. The table next to us also had a birthday and were provided with a complimentary dessert while we weren't. I know I just dumped on their desserts but it's more a matter of consistency. Lastly the parking sucks and you're left with an uphill 2-3 min walk to the restaurant. Fine for my wife and I (though walking uphill in 90° isn't fun for anyone), but anyone with mobility issues will struggle a bit. There is valet parking and a few handicap spots but I'm not sure what the price for valet is. read more

Everyone we encountered on staff was genuinely kind and truly wanted us to have an incredible experience. Perfect for a date night or for a dinner with friends/family. Love the decor and the bar is adorable! We dined indoors but were able to see the outside tent and they are doing it right!! Ventilated appropriately and plenty of heat lamps to help with the winter temps. Socially distanced inside as well...grateful for that! 2. Great drinks We didn't order the house cocktails (but am looking forward to trying them next time) because we have a thing for rum old fashioneds and order them EVERYWHERE! These were so gooooood! 3. The. FOOD! We wanted the whole menu but alas, 2 people can only consume so much and truly enjoy it so we chose the wings, squash, crab rice, salmon, and chocolate dessert. Every single dish had so much flavor, were portioned really well and were presented beautifully and every dish I would absolutely order again and again and again and again! I can't wait to go back and force myself to try other things...it's a challenge I'm ready and willing to accept...wonder if tomorrow would be too soon?! Great service, great food and a compliment from the restaurant in the form of a couple of glasses of champagne, we were pleasantly surprised. I'm surprised by some of these reviews about service. Our service was faultless and the delivery of food was perfectly timed. Some dishes were outstanding. The duck bao was mouthwatering, the slippery wild mushroom was great. Overall, the food was tasty and nicely presented. I'm not giving five stars for some petty reasons. 1. The music was BAD. Really bad, as in "why on earth would a place like this play mediocre and forgettable 90's pop songs?" The bad music was also way too loud. We were seated in the small white room overlooking the garden tables. It's a bit echoey in that room, but to be fair, they did turn down the music when I asked them. 2. The cocktails were just ok. I expect delectable cocktails for $18+. The cocktail menu could have done with more explanation of ingredients. I didn't want to ask the waiter what seven different ingredients were. 3. The SUPREME affiliated land&sea combo was really average and could have been from the chinese takeaway around the corner. We asked the waiter and I still didn't get the connection between the label and the food. It seemed pretentious. 4. The water was room temperature and it was hot outside. Throw some ice cubes in the water pitchers please. 5. This is a very expensive meal out. I expect a lot for the money we paid and the small things above were annoying. I would go back however. The food was excellent. Normally I'd base a rating 95% off the food alone and it deserves 5 stars. But our seating was so miserable we left early. Our table for two was placed right in the middle of the door opening between the inside and the outside patio. Customers and staff were whizzing by and brushing up against our arms and chairs. The space was narrow on both sides so lots of butts paused right at our table to let others through. Super loud since we were essentially in the intersection between the patio, the kitchen, the bathroom and other tables. I made our reservation 3 weeks out and checked the "birthday" special occasion box. Additional comments I wrote, "We've been looking forward to coming here for a couple years & we're celebrating a birthday (his)..any table in a more romantic location is appreciated!" I'm assuming these details were completely missed, alternative being we were sat there intentionally which I don't think is the case. This was the type of table you leave for walk-ins, IF it has to exist at all. I hosted for years and so I understand tables shuffle at different speeds and that just happened to be the available table when we got there, but I would have waited beyond my reservation if it meant sitting literally anywhere else. It stung watching other couples be seated in cozy, quiet corners just 2 minutes after we were sat. Overall the food and drink were great, our actual server and the runners were knowledgeable and kind. I wasn't expecting any extra special accommodations based on my note but at a minimum I didn't think we'd get the worst seat in the house. We took pretty much our whole meal to go early which I have never done in my life. read more

We reserved a seat at Goosefeather for my birthday dinner on a Wednesday through their website. Spots were filling up fast even in COVID times so I would definitely suggest looking ahead of time to snag a spot here. When we arrived, the hostess was really nice. She let us look around the restaurant and chose which seat we wanted which I appreciated since the first seating option was a little out of the main dining room. Goosefeather is situated in a beautiful estate with an attention to detail and decor that is breath-taking. From it's beautiful fixtures in its atrium to it's 1920s bar/cocktail room, I loved the ambiance of this restaurant. Beautiful candle light and the ethereal look of wax dripping off the wine bottles- it was simply breathtaking. We started off with Vanity is All and Scarsdale Surprise. Both were strong cocktails. Wouldn't say it is the best I've had. We got the Dry Aged Beef Pot Stickers, Crab Rice and Hunan Lamb Shank. The dry Aged Beef Pot Stickers were okay. Definitely very high quality meat but very little substance for what you pay for. The Crab Rice had a surprising amount of kick to it! I enjoyed the dish quite a bit and it was a generous helping. But out of everything, the Lamb Shank really stole the show. I enjoyed the dish in it's entirety. The meat was tastefully marinated and prepared. The meat came off with a simple scrape of the fork. The pickled vegetables was a lovely sour/acid component to the dish. And the light dusting of pistachio nuts and radishes gave a nice crunch to every bite. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone who is coming to the restaurant. It is a not to miss dish! Overall, I had a great experience at Goosefeather. A more upscale dining experience but definitely worthwhile for celebrations. It was raining when we came but I would have loved to see the outdoor seating at this place. Worst dining experience ever! We were seated in a room without air conditioning in the middle of a heat wave. All the food was greasy- pot stickers are generally not greasy! Mochi waffle dessert- just heavy & tasteless. plus, the room we were seated in had two doors that were dirty!
