Miss Portia and Miss Katie are nothing short of amazing!! Some people are just born to be teachers and they both are. I don't know how they do it. You can actually feel the love they have for each individual child that comes through the doors. My son loves them and tells me he wants to stay at Sunshine and doesn't want to go to kindergarten. I found Sunshine through Google. We came and sat in a class and were blown away. My son took to it like a fish to water and signed him up right there on the spot. I wanted a Co-op preschool. Not just because you can't beat the price, but also I wanted to be able to work in the classroom and see my child grow and flourish. I also loved that Sunshine is like a little community. Every parent there wants the same thing and works together to make sure the children get the most out of their experience. I can honestly say that I have made friendships here that will last a lifetime. Another reason we were sold on Sunshine is the amount of supervision the children get. Not only is there a teacher but also four parents working at all times to help. I know some other preschools that only had one teacher and have heard the horror stories. I always felt like my son was safe when I dropped him off at school and to me that was priceless! We can't wait to come back to Sunshine with our youngest, we would never go anywhere else. Unfortunately my son only went 3 total days before we ended up not returning. The story: on the 3rd day I picked my son up from the playground at the end of the day, the moment he saw me he immediately broke down sobbing saying his head hurt really bad and a kid had hit him with a shovel. Obviously concerned, I asked the teachers what happened and asked why I was not notified, and why he didn't receive any ice or first aid? All 4 teachers took turns blaming each other, changing their story from one teacher saw the incident, to nobody saw the incident, and then they said they did not have to notify me of injuries that did not leave a mark. One teacher even told me to "take it down a notch" as I asked questions regarding what happened. My son cried holding his head for 3 hours and threw up. I took him to Kaiser Irvine ER where they said he had a mild concussion. Keep in mind I have the toughest little boy who has never cried at school, and regularly falls and does crazy things and never blinks an eye. So I knew something was wrong. None of the teachers apologized. Zero leadership or accountability as adults. I don't expect perfect and it is very normal for accidents to happen on. The playground, but I expect basic first aid and a notification. Keep in mind, on the first day of him going to mariners, my son was also hit again with a "block" on accident. It left no mark, but he did receive ice, it was documented on the procare app, AND I received a phone call. Nobody had any explanation as to why none of this happened when he was hit in the head 2 days later with a shovel. (Which they do have on the playground gardening area) I made an appointment with the director, I received a full refund (about $1500 of fees), and they admitted policy was not followed by the employees. We haven't returned to mariners at all since this incident as it was just such a disappointment. Mostly just the complete lack of care and compassion toward my little boy than anything else. I can't recommend Mariners at all.

Our boys attended Kids Kastle for approximately six months. We moved somewhere closer to home as…read morethe drive to Irvine was becoming difficult for us. Initially, it felt like an "old school" daycare environment with a large outdoor space that would be perfect for them to run around. Inside, the classrooms were outdated but seemed clean enough. The teachers we interacted with were kind, and many had been there for a long time--a great sign. In fact, I even wrote a positive review when we started, highlighting these points. However, within a month or two we started receiving daily feedback about our boys having behavioral issues--one in particular. We had been to daycare before, so we weren't new to feedback, but this was different. It felt like constant complaining. We monitored the situation with occasional check-ins, but it quickly escalated. Only a few months in, Katie, the director, and Miss Leann (not his primary teacher) sat us down and implied he had ADHD, even recommending we find him a new school. After nearly a year of reflecting on this bizarre situation, I still believe it was unprofessional. We had him tested through the district, and they concluded he did not have the learning disabilities they suggested. After reading through similar experiences online--like a review from a parent named Chloe P with a nearly identical situation with her daughter--it seems this isn't an isolated incident. I think several factors play into this. It's not a formal academic school, and there is a lot of free play time--which, for a 3-year-old (yes, my son was only 3), may not be the right environment for many kids. If your child is a calm, independent student, this could be a great place with fun activities, crafts, and affordable care. However, if your child needs more structure, this may not be the right fit

This is going to be long so here's a TL;DR:…read more -they kicked my daughter out for supposed 'horrible behavior issues' -pretty sure it was just because we were getting our childcare subsidized -since leaving my daughter has had not a single issue at both schools she has attended -another parent had a similar experience and removed his son from the school -the behavior program THEY recommended me to even said this school has caused problems with this in the past -The director is rude and condescending First off let me start by saying two things: One, Ms. Darcie and Ms. Debbie were amazing. Both very sweet, understanding teachers. Two, I waited five months after we left the school before writing this because I really, honestly wanted to see if it was the school or my daughter that was the problem. I'm not one of those parents that thinks their child can do no wrong or who can't take criticism. That said, with all that has happened in the 5 months since we left, I can now feel confident and saying that the problem was most definitely with the school. My experience here was nightmarish. My daughter was almost 4 when she started attending school here and at first all seemed well. Towards my daughter's fifth birthday we suddenly started getting really horrible feedback from the school about her behavior. They said she wasn't listening, was disruptive, etc. I was panicked and feeling like a horrible mom more with each incident report they made me sign. (One such report was for the fact that she got up off her mat during nap time because if the child doesn't nap they force them to sit quietly in one spot doing NOTHING for the duration of nap time... which lasts hours.) They recommended I put her in this school readiness program and eventually I called the program in tears. The behavior improved slightly so I thought maybe it was a weird phase and let it go. Suddenly they were threatening to kick her out of school if I didn't put her in the program. I called and made an appointment and then left the state for a funeral. Upon returning they handed me a letter saying I had TWO WEEKS until they couldn't care for my daughter any more. They were really kicking her out. They also apparently TOLD her they were kicking her out because of her behavior and she felt terrible for weeks. Who does that to a 5 year old?! Now in absolute panic because I had 2 weeks to find another preschool with an opening, I had a meeting with the teacher and director. They told me they had tried to get me to work with them (last I had spoken to the teacher she had reassured me that I shouldn't be worried because the behavior wasn't abnormally bad) but refused to work towards any solution. Fine, I was over dealing with the rude director anyway. So we left, but I still followed through with the school readiness program to see what the issue was. The first meeting with the program, as SOON as I mentioned the name kids kastle to our worker she laughed out loud and said "ohh yeah, I have had issues with them multiple times in the past." At that point I felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe my daughter wasn't as bad as they made me believe? The school readiness program lady tested my daughter and said she was fine and in fact ahead of most kids her age. I still insisted she do a school observation at the new preschool just to make sure. After that she sent me a message saying that my daughter was not only fine but in fact was getting along great and seemed advanced for her age. The new school had no issue with her. Not even once. I talked to her new teacher and the only negative thing she could find to say was that my daughter was stubborn. Behavior issues? She looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about that. The only difference I could see about the new school was that they allowed her to read or play quietly during naptime if she wasn't tired. Fast forward to kindergarten. The director at kids kastle told me my daughter would have "serious problems" in kindergarten because of her behavior. I was extremely nervous for weeks before the first day, despite the fact that everything at the new preschool had been fine. Kindergarten is here now and she has had glowing reports from her teacher every. Single. Day. She has earned more points than anyone else in the class on their behavior tracking app and most of them are for things like 'listening' and 'calm body' and 'sitting quietly'... all the things Kids Kastle said she was EXTREMELY incapable of. After leaving kids kastle her behavior at home improved, too. Also another parent I know from outside the school said they took their son out because of similar issues where they claimed behavior issues were there and they just weren't. Seriously don't take your kids to this school unless you want them to develop self-esteem issues and self-fulfilling-prophecy narratives about being 'bad' and having 'behavior problems'. Thankful we got kicked out, it was so bad I just yelped for the first time ever.

We enrolled our 10-month-old daughter here, and within two months she came home with a fractured arm. The school said nothing when we picked her up -- just a vague mention of her being fussy. It wasn't until our pediatrician took X-rays that we learned the truth. What broke my heart wasn't just the injury -- it was her first birthday spent in a cast. As her mother, I will never forget that. When we asked for answers, there was no security footage to review because the cameras had apparently been removed months earlier. No accountability. No transparency. Nothing. Four years later I still think about it. I hope this school has since made real changes -- better vetted teachers, cameras restored, and proper incident reporting. Every child deserves that. Every mother deserves to feel her baby is truly safe. I'm posting this because I'd want another mom to warn me.
