Forrests and springs, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and yes, gators. There are over 400,000 acres in the Ocala National Forest. It needs more than one visit to fully explore this wonder. There are many opportunities for camping and backpacking. I want to come back soon to go on a nature hike. Like Dave O. says, this is the wilderness so don't be naive. You must go in prepared with water, protein snacks, and emergency supplies. This is not Disney, this is the real Florida adventure.

This is a small place that is both a campground and a fishing/hunting boating marina. The camp host - Ken - was fantastic and friendly. We had plans to attend a football game in Gainesville and he offered to drive us back and forth which was wonderful. He delivered a fire ring and wood to us as well. We had a great time. The bird watching is wonderful (we were in Site 407 right on the water. ) For those bird watchers, we saw and/or heard Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Barred Owls, Swamp Sparrows, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Blackbirds, Crows, Cardinals, Catbirds, White Ibis, Wrens, Kingfishers, Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers, etc....all in just 2 days! We could have stayed longer. We were told the owner intends to upgrade the facility. We very much enjoyed this campground.

There are also supposedly some homesteads, but we didn't come across them during our time there. The website is a little off when it comes to showing which numbers on their map match the numbers on the posts for points of interest. Part of the trail is pretty sunny so make sure you have your sunscreen and other sun protection if you need it. Once you get into the main part of the trail, you'll find more shade and it's a nice, peaceful walk in the woods.

We had a 130 reservation and was told to be there at one. We showed up early and waited and waited and nothing. I finally had to call the company. The man was very rude and stated that he tried to call me. We never received a call nor text. Do not use this company. Go anywhere else.
