I did find the member of staff of reception quite obnoxious though and she seemed to not care at all. They take council tax money at the guildhall, however for some reason if you only want to pay some of the bill or wish to discuss your bill, then you need to go to the townhall by the marina. Which is a little annoying.

One certainly needs a map and the coast guard on standby as you can seriously get lost in the place with the long expansive corridors. Swansea City university also holds their graduation ceremonies in the Branwyn hall which is a real treat and certainly gave us loads of happy memories to take away with us. It also plays host to a wide range of classical concerts from the very best European and world organisations. It also has been used as a location for Doctor Who and in the next series of Torchwood.

Walk along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast catching glimpses of the foaming sea below, skid down the tortuous rock path to the beach below. Catch the light at the right time (typical British summer) and marvel at the range of grey shades - cliffs, rocks, sea and sky - bleak at it's beautiful best. Clamber back up the cliff path and then down again to the slipway in front of the Castle (Atlantic College). No admission unless on an open day, but peek up the ramp at the open air swimming pool for the resident students. With permissions on open day, explore the wooded hillside. Then towards the ramparts from below, along the grass front with the gallery stand that looks just like the set of Arthur and the Round Table - Knights viewing a jousting tournament. Best time, evening, dodging the bats and looking for luscious early season blackberries flourishing in the shelter of the warm stonework. Look inside the ancient, isolated, St Donat's church nestling in the valley below - history, tradition, legacies and memories seeping from its old stones. Castle itself, a marvel - a mini Gormenghast. Loads of cultural activities too, if you plan ahead. It's fascinating to wander around and there is an audio-visual display in one of the upstairs rooms. You can also visit Thomas's 'writing shed' where he did much of his work. Although it is kept locked, you can look through the window at a reconstruction of what it would have been like (either that or it hasn't been touched since he left!) complete with empty beer bottles.

Ystradfellte is the Brecon Beacon's Waterfall country and its also were I grew up so its a place I…read moreknow well and love very much. Its a place that a lot of people in Wales know of just because of the fall and the caving complexes. The most famous of the waters is Sgwd Y Eira. If you have seen the advertising posters for Brecon Water this is the waterfall in the picture. Its a fairly easy walk apart from the steps as you get near and its one of very few waterfalls that you can actually walk underneath, though do expect to get sprayed a bit. I personally prefer some of the walks around the other falls which are much quieter in the summer and offer refreshing pools to swim in or picnic by. In all my years of living here I have never got bored of walking the area, its different all the time. Just a note to vistors the two main car parks charge a daily fee and a national parks ranger goes between them. If you want to avoid the fee park in the village itself and walk a bit further, tempting as it may be to pull up on the verges near the car parks I have seen so many break in's that you really are risking it a bit.

This is a lovely place to walk to take the sea air! The middle of it is situated very close to the…read moretown centre (and car parks). During the summer months a little tourist 'road train' runs along the Esplanade as far as Rest Bay to the west. On one side of the road you can look out across the rocky beach and the Bristol Channel. One the other, you will pass the well known Grand Pavillion (a venue for many famous performers through the years) and also many fine houses and modern apartments. If you are on foot, the pavement 'runs out' before you can reach Rest Bay but you can continue over grass. Somewhere I have visited many times (the most recent being today!)
