Why does everything in a house start breaking at the same time? After a summer of fixing things and a bathroom renovation I was reading to stop pouring money into my house...and then my kids blinds ALL broke at the same time. On top of that I decided our old window treatments weren't quite right for our new gorgeous bathroom so reached out to my trust decorator for recommendations. She said she's had nothing, but great experiences with Gotcha Covered...and looks like (based on the stellar reviews) that many yelpers agree. I called last Monday and found time on a Saturday morning for a sales rep (Jay) to stop by. Saturdays are ideal for my work schedule, although when he stopped by at 10am I had 3 kids I had to kick out of their rooms (especially the teenager) so he walked into a bit of craziness, but didn't seem bothered by it. Within an hour we chose hunter douglas room darkening shades for my kids rooms, as well as a custom made silhouette window shade for our bathroom. My decorator facetimed to help us pick a color and fabric for the window, which ended up being a quick 5 min call. We were able to match all the shades to the existing trim in all the rooms and then Jay was off. Jay promised a quote by Monday, but delivered it Saturday afternoon. While pricey it ended up being much less than I expected (also included a designer referral discount) and I"m really happy with everything we ordered. I did think about shopping around, but decided to just go with Gotcha Covered based on the stellar reviews, great service from Jay and the price seemed fair (even chatgpt agreed :)). They required a 50% deposit to place the order and promised to deliver/install in 4-6 weeks. I'll update my review after installation, but I'm happy so far! read more

My experience with Gotcha Covered at 4601 N Western, Chicago has been superb! When I moved to a new home 4 years ago, Jay Gonnam worked with me on design and color to replace 7 blinds. He was professional, patient with my many questions, gave good advice, and provided various options in different price ranges. Their installation team was on time and thorough. If I had an issue after installation, he was very responsive and worked with Graber to obtain a replacement quickly and under warranty. Years later, when I accidentally tore an older shade, he helped me to select a replacement. After installation, the color didn't completely match the other shades and he and Brian the owner worked with Graber to get me a replacement that better matched at no charge, even though it wasn't their fault! The customer service and ongoing support has been fabulous and I highly recommend them!! Scheduling was easy and friendly, measuring and design/consult was exactly what we needed, no pressure but good knowledgeable advice. Price was fair and quality is superb. Keep in mind: custom costs money, but it's worth getting the job done right by someone that knows their stuff. With most work done in your home, you are just grateful that it was not awful. Jay at GochchaCovered was simply a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. His bid was 20% less than his competitor, he offered better quality shades (darker, higher rated), from a much better rated manufacturer (Hunter Douglas). He responded to our questions promptly. The installers were simply amazing. They accomplished a major redo of two large rooms (12 shades) in under two hours. And they recycle most of the product that was removed. Given the opportunity, we would likely use another service. Pros: Our blinds look great. We like the mechanized functionality and the app (though, more on that as it relates to /smart home/ features). The installation work was very well done. It seems that they're very well versed in guiding customers in classic window treatment needs (fabric selection, sizing, installation, etc.). Cons: For one, expect to pay a very big premium for their services. And perhaps that is ok, but one would expect that this premium comes with more attention to detail to requirements, expertise in all areas related to blinds, and a willingness to make right an issue where they have essentially admitted fault. Second, if you are a smart home enthusiast or use Apple Home, you should be forewarned. They are not well-equipped to help guide you in this area. We specifically asked for Apple HomeKit connectivity. We believe this was articulated as a requirement in writing in our initial contact, as well as during our consultation. Unfortunately, Apple HomeKit compatibility is no longer offered with the latest generation of Hunter Douglas motors. It was in a previous generation, which makes the information online particularly difficult to parse. This is why the consultation guidance was relied upon. And even if it were to become compatible, it would require a $250+ gateway. The incompatibility was not made clear to us. Upon bringing this to their attention after installation, the solution we've been offered was a) an offer to sell us a gateway at full price - in which case we must hope for eventual Apple HomeKit compatibility which is not a guarantee, and b) a promise to tell future clients of the incompatibility up front. It is unclear how this helps us, or makes up for a misunderstanding that if one were to look too closely, might be considered a bit of bait and switch (even if unintentional). It also would have been helpful to have the Hunter Douglas app functionality demonstrated during consultation. This would have likely resulted in us purchasing additional mechanized capability for some windows where we did not. Overall, we probably would not use them again, and we cannot recommend them based on our experience, the price, lack of smart home expertise, and an unwillingness to make good on their admitted mistake. read more

My second experience with Gotcha Covered and it was even better than the first. Both were small jobs but they gave me a level of attention one would expect for a much bigger project. The first was for screen/shades. They were delivered quickly and look great. The second job - just completed - was to help me after I damaged one shade in another room. They found a solution that repaired the shade instead of my having to replace it and the one next to it. This job was done ahead of their ETD. I got bids from 5 companies; 3 Hunter Douglas vendors, Lowes (Kirsch) and Macy's (Kirsch) for roller shades with remotes for my loft. I chose Gotcha Covered because their prices were much less for the same shades than other Hunter Douglas vendors and Jay, the salesman, was great. I wouldn't recommend Lowes because the service was mediocre. I emailed the Lowes sales rep for samples and it took 3 weeks before he emailed me back. The Macy's rep for Kirsch was excellent, but the price was too high (even though Hunter Douglas owns Kirsch). The service from Gotcha Covered was great. I kept changing my mind, but Jay sent me samples of everything within days of my requests. He was flexible and patient. The finished product from Gotcha Covered arrived a couple of weeks earlier than expected and was immediately installed. The installation was fine, but I thought the shade was a smidgen too close to the ductwork. Getting this corrected was no problem. The owner came out, took a look at it and the installer returned a couple of days later and now everything is fine. I don't believe the other companies would've been as great as Gotcha Covered's service. I recommend Gotcha Covered. Using them instead of other companies saved me almost $800 and the service was excellent. No complaints. Love it. read more
