Cute coffee shop tucked away between 5th and 6th ave on 19th street. I went around 1:30pm on a Thursday and there wasn't a line (only one person was sitting in the shop to be honest). I got a macchiato and the barista was quick to say that it was made in the traditional way, not the Starbucks (aka like a latte) way. I had a bit of a chuckle when she said that and quickly countered that I hoped she'd be able to teach the Starbucks baristas a thing or two about macchiatos then :P The macchiato itself was quite good - it both had the perfect temperature and the correct amount of milk. The foam could have been a bit better, but that's probably my own fault for ordering a non-dairy drink, as non-dairy milk tends to foam more poorly than regular milk. Overall, I'd recommend a stop here, but it probably isn't the best coffee I've had in the city. read more

I came here after lunch with some friends. The barista was very friendly, the decor and environment was pleasing the eyes, and they had good tunes playing. Wicked good coffee shop. The espresso was on point, and the staff was knowledgeable. I love getting a pour over and an espresso while I wait. The babka was moist and delicious, perfect afternoon snack. Highly recommend trying the frost bite next time you need a boost in the afternoon. read more

I live in the area and when I can stop at a small coffee shop over a Starbucks, I will. Overall the coffee was actually good with flavor and not bitter. However the coffee cup and lid did not fit properly. Walking into work the lid popped off and wouldn't go back on. Spilled scalding coffee all over me. Experienced 1. Sampled house coffee 2. Ordered americano (red hook expresso blend) with au lait finish ( almond milk) Assessment 1. Coffee tasted mostly fresh. Somewhat sour from acidity and slightly bitter after swallowing. Not bad for those that prefer their their coffee to be on the bitter end of the spectrum. 2. Not that different from house blend but slightly less sour and less bitter. Almond milk may have contributed to final taste. Recommendations: 1. Use a barista blend almond milk instead of the generic silk brand. For an upscale place like this, I was surprised to see them using Silk Almond milk. Service: Excellent! Finding delicious coffee shops in the cities is one of my favorite things to do and after finding this place on instagram I knew i had to give them a visit. The interior of the coffee house is a little small but it has a very comfortable feel. The baristas were very nice and not overly busy. I ordered a pour over and expected a cup but was given a carafe which let me savor the coffee even more. The Colombian single origin was delicious and was very clear. I am a lover of trying different third wave coffee roasters. After what seemed like an inexplicable period of lack of new roasters coming into the city, I think NYC is going through a boom right now. And while i respect any roaster who loves their beans to the point of denying milk and sugar in it, I also loooove it when a third wave coffee place doesn't take itself too seriously. That's what Gotham is. Fantastic coffee, with fun names like "snakebite" that consists of coffee over ice, or coffee and iced milk and simple syrup. (If you're like me and want simple syrup in your iced latte, just ask them). Because yes, I want my coffee to taste like candy, but that doesn't mean I don't want good coffee in it, dangit! They also have chai, hot chocolate, and teas for non-coffee consumers. As well as soy and almond for dairy substitutes. I've been buying bags of coffee beans from them, and the Brooklyn blend is up there with one of the best (if you like a medium, chocolatey flavor). They guys who work here have also consistently been very nice. It's a small place, but they do have a few sets available for a small meeting or place to work. Solid iced coffee. Space is small, as expected, but cozy. It was filled with people at 825am and I was in and out in only a few minutes. Asked for cold brew after not seeing it on the printed menu, and the barista didn't bat an eye. Called it an iced coffee when placing the finished product on the counter for me to claim it. I drink my coffee black and this one has got a little coffee bite...borders on how I like my cold brew. The large thankfully comes in what I think may be a 20oz cup. Whatever it is, it's more product than most of the other shops in NYC offer as a large. Pricing is good when this is considered. $4.50 before tip. Competitive. I'll definitely stop in in the future to dabble in something else or just to grab another iced coffee. This is not a criticism of the coffee--the coffee is delicious. However, the staff are incredibly, incredibly rude. This makes it an unpleasant place to visit. Also, they allow you to pay for a specific iced tea only to tell you later that they are out, so you have to get a different flavor. This has happened many times. Where's Batman? I stumbled into Gotham recently while walking around the neighborhood, and so happy I tried it out. Really enjoy the flavor and strength of the espresso here. I also like the almond milk they use (I think Califia farms barista blend?) - it seems to froth and lend itself to latte art just as well as regular milk. Almond milk flat whites have become my go-to drink and have the perfect amount of milk to still taste the espresso. Not a lot of seating, but a nice atmosphere if you are looking to sit. Baristas are friendly, service is always great and quick. Within a week of discovering Gotham, I had filled up a full stamp card to earn my first free drink (glad they offer this!). It is not very close to my work or my home, I literally go out of my way on an almost daily basis now just to get my coffee here. It's worth it. read more

Hidden gem on 19th St. Gotham Coffee Roasters was one of those places I walked past, and thought "this is cute, I'll have to come back sometime" and finally patronized weeks later. This is a tiny CLS... my best friend and I snagged one of the marble tables and caught up over a a cup while customers came to the counter, ordered and left. I went with an iced coffee with almond milk and was impressed. [Ahem, there are places out there selling Cold Brew that are not as good, as Gotham's iced coffee!] Establishment was clean, with simple decor [read: no frills] and the background music was on point. Very small place, just enough for abl it 6 to 8 people to sit. It gives it that nice cozy feeling though. Beautiful looking drinks. Small cup is a small mocha and the large is a soy latte. Mocha wasn't extremely sweet, just right. The cinnamon bread thing wasn't too sweet and just right. read more

Someone else beat me to *paying* for the coffee, since I was hanging out and chatting up the friendly staff, who seem to know a LOT about coffee. A friendly staff with a dialed in espresso shot and an outlet for my laptop(slash phone) Pleased to announce what you already know given the constant flow of people into the store - the espresso IS good. The service is always pleasant and they always have a few neat drinks on their specials board. Lately, I've loved the iced matcha to accompany my espresso in the morning. Sweetened almond milk does it good too. Four tables, three outlets, smaller space but I've never had an issue finding a place to sit. Just my luck, I suppose. They have great coffee options. Love the different roasts. I unfortunately had an annoying experience -- I ordered an Iced Coffee and it was only HALF FULL when I received it. I'm assuming they expected me to fill the rest with milk (even though I said I take it black). Advice: don't order the Iced Coffee because for $5.50 (I gave a tip because I used to work in the industry)-- It's not worth your time (it took them 5 minutes to make) or your money. read more
