This is an incredibly cute shop with so much to see, housed in what once was a stately old home whose charm is still apparent as soon as you walk through the door. Interested in clothing and accessories? Check. Love the "shabby chic" look? Check. Hoping to pick up a piece of whimsical home decor? Check. Looking for vintage finds? Check. This quaint, two-story home decor shop seems to hit a home run in many areas. The only real faults I found were with the prices on things like clothing and jewelry (especially the clothing). I don't want to be critical, but the clothes in their "Ragg's Boutique" were pretty basic numbers from a bunch of no-name designers at inflated prices. I mean, $160 for a plain tunic? Come on. This isn't New York or Chicago, it's Holly. I know these types of shops have a high overhead and all, but the prices were a bit out of touch. How many people are willing to spend $160 on something that they can easily pick up for a fraction of the price somewhere else? Also, I thought most of the clothes were kind of "matronly" (sorry) or too nondescript for my taste. I found the bulk of it to be second-rate designs at first-rate prices. It just wasn't my cup of tea, but it might be someone else's. It just seemed mildly pretentious to me. As for the rest of the store, there was a lot to see, including on the second story, which is very cramped and narrow, so not too many people can comfortable shop up there at one time- just saying. If you turn around too fast, you risk knocking something over. I know, I did just that! It was incredibly crowded up there, with vintage finds peeking out at me at every turn. It might be a bit too crowded, in fact. The walkway is tight and the old wooden flooring uneven, so take note. Despite the tight squeeze, I found plenty of "shabby chic" style decor, which I just so happen to love, from vintage signage and antique doorknobs rescued from old homes to painted tiles and upcycled windows from 19th century buildings and more. Some of it was surprisingly well-priced, while other pieces were in the higher-end range. No doubt because they were from different shop vendors (Pigeon in the Parlour houses several individual vendors), which probably accounts for the wide ranges in pricing. Some of the more traditional line of home decor accents were very reasonably priced, including candles, soaps, wall art, knick knacks, dishes, etc. I especially loved a line of metal dragonfly hooks and some cute resin bunny statues. We picked up some candles and soaps, but I left without that dragonfly hook and now I regret it. Since chalk painting is all the rage right now, I found a fairly large line of reasonably-priced chalk paints and a new "salt wash" mix, including some small starter kits. My husband and I both do a lot of DIY projects, so we were interested and took a gander at what they had in stock. The lady waiting on us told us that we can order from them, even if we aren't in the store, since we don't live in Holly. That was nice, I thought. She talked up this new "salt wash" additive and showed us how it worked with paints and gave us a brochure to read up on it. I have to admit, it looked intriguing, so I think we might order that sometime soon. As for the customer service, it veered between good and slightly odd. I noticed one of the employees following other people (not me) around the store in an annoying, clingy fashion. I couldn't tell if she was worried they were shoplifters or if she was just heavily invested in making a sale. Who knows? Nonetheless, the lady that waited on me seemed pleasant and knowledgeable, if not overtly friendly. Like I said, this store has a lot of interesting pieces and the unique character of the building only enhances the shopping experience. My husband and I were driving past it and turned around to stop in since it's an antiques shop and, well, we love vintage/antiques, so we figured there was no harm in taking a look. Honestly, it didn't look like much from the road and I can see why it was so easy to bypass without noticing it. It's located in a pretty nondescript strip mall with no discernible landmarks near it to mark the location. If you didn't pay attention, you'd pass right by without a second look, so definitely make certain to slow down and look for the sign, which isn't very visible at all. Seriously, may I suggest that the owner invest a better sign or something? The best thing about this store was the collectible Barbie collection in the back. If I wasn't really looking, I would never have noticed it. It was tucked far away into the back room in a corner. In that dusty, hidden corner was a treasure trove of limited edition collectible Barbies, still in their boxes, unused and untouched. Most of the boxes were still in pretty good condition, too. On that particular day, the store was having a one-day only sale on certain ones. It was more like a blowout sale- certain special edition Barbies were marked down to $5 each! I don't know, but whatever, I wasn't about to ask questions. I thought the sale price was too good to be true, especially after looking the Barbies in question up on Ebay, etc. I didn't hesitate and bought two right then and there. Both are valued at about $75-$85 online, so it was a bargain. The rest of the store was fairly organized, but the pricing was all over the map. Some things (china, Barbies, ephemera, vinyl, toys) were priced lower than I'd expect, though other things (Star Wars collectibles, jewelry, furniture) were priced higher than some things were actually worth. Quite a few things weren't clearly priced and I had to ask the manager/owner about them. I hate doing that. Just slap a clear price tag on it and leave it at that. Other than the Barbie collection, it was mostly furniture and a lot of Star Wars memorabilia. I don't care about that, but apparently the owner did. Truth be told, it felt a bit like a Star Wars convention in there, which isn't my cup of tea. I can't stand the Star Wars movies, however, to each his own. Customer service was a little lacking. The only employee in there (owner or manager???) seemed kind of cold and aloof, not rude necessarily, but a little more on the unfriendly side than most antique shop owners. Usually, they want to chat with you, however, not this guy. Nope, not at all. We received kind of a frosty reception when we walked in, like we were interrupting something. Maybe he was really busy doing something when we stopped by, I don't know. I do know that when I asked if he had a tissue so I could wipe some dust off my hand (the place was a little dusty, like many antique shops and flea markets), he sort of looked at me like I was interrupting him and he just pointed at a box of tissue behind the counter. Hmm, okay. Despite the semi-cold response from the guy behind the counter, we still picked up a few items (collectible Barbies and some vintage bar ware) that we wanted, but overall, I'd say there is room for improvement in terms of customer service and pricing. We had looked in the big furniture stores and were unimpressed with the quality of the furniture for the price. The two brothers (buyers) that choose the furniture for sale have good taste! We found both the dinette set and cocktail table and knew we had to have them. We liked the quality of the furniture and were easily convinced make the purchase upon seeing the sales price. Thankfully we had a small SUV and someone helped us load it up. It took two trips, but we're super happy with the furniture, the prices and our experience in this store. We would come back. As for the sales guy sleeping as reported by a prior Yelper...yes, there was a gentleman sitting in a chair when we were there yet he had several spurts of activity (walking with a cane). I don't take offense at him resting and know how to request help when I want it. I'd also prefer that a salesperson await my question than stalk me while browsing anyway. That's my opinion...take it for what it's worth.
