A friend of mine has gone on and on about Gowell's (he grew up nearby) for years, and I was finally able to try them for myself when I received a nice, giant box of assorted chocolates for my sugar-loving heart. My box is a mix of milk and dark chocolates, and has creamy centers, caramels, nuts and maybe some others I haven't tried yet. The chocolate is smooth, the smell is heavenly and the chocolate covered marshmallow was exceptional. As was the one with the strawberry center! He said the malted milk balls are great, hopefully that will be the next thing I get to try! read more

Wow has customer service has gone downhill. Gowell's Candy in Brockton was a family tradition for my entire life and I think my family will make the transition to Hilliard's Candy. Jaqueline who worked the counter couldn't have been more rude and uninterested in helping my family with our Christmas order. She was rude and aggravated while answering questions and had no patience while we picked chocolates/candies out of the display. After paying for my purchase I opened my spice drops and ate one where I was then yelled at by Jaqueline for eating in the store. She yelled at me and said "excuse me, don't eat in here, you aren't allowed to eat here"! I told her that was weird because they always had a tray of free samples and candy at the front of each register my entire life and she yelled "rules change"! I was so embarrassed by the way she treated me. I've haven't come in contact with a more unpleasant person this holiday season and it was super disappointing while enjoying a holiday tradition with my sister and mother. The store was completely empty on the Sunday before Christmas and I'm starting to understand why with an attitude like that Never again. read more

I was introduced to Gowell's by my Aunt and it's my favorite place!!! I've never had such delicious chocolate anywhere else. Always make a point of getting some candy from here for special events (Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc) bear in mind they get VERY busy around some of these times (take a number) but the candy is great and they have a lot of choice available. This place is such a gem. Hilliard's doesn't hold a candle to Gowells. Only qualm, nothing is peanut free. Story of my life. Heartbroken 4 year old left empty handed. Even the gummy bears are tainted. Sigh. Honestly the best turtles and toffee ever. Parking sucks during the holidays since it gets packed and there is only a small lot behind the building. It's not in the nicest location but it's on a main road and I personally have never been mugged or shot here. read more

I'm a chocolate snob --- if it ain't Gowell's I won't eat it. (Okay, I'll have Hershey's in a pinch!) Gowell's is a Christmas & Easter tradition in the family for Chocolate Easter Bunnies and Santas. Soooo good! They have so many other good treats as well. The chocolate covered nuts are amazing. Pretty much everything they sell is amazing, so you can't go wrong. I received a box of the Turtles as a gift - they are outstanding!

I have been a fan of this shop for a few years but recently I had a dilemma that they rescued me from! My company orders 3,000 chocolate santas every year for our customers and people start asking for them in October. Our normal distributor contacts us in early fall for our order but this year, he fell off the planet and I hadn't been able to reach him. Needing 3,000 Santas by December 1st put me in a panic but I thought of Gowells and called to see if they could help. Lori, the manager, was so accommodating! She was helpful, friendly, professional and was able to fill my order in less than a week! She and her husband were such warm people, I'm so glad they are close by! I could have gone to BJ's and gotten a bunch of commercial stuff but our customers would have hated it. Service and friendliness is why I always prefer to shop small businesses. Thank you Lori!
