The congregation was so welcoming and full of love that a couple of us came back for the Sunday service. It was inspiring. The space itself is just as beautiful as the members. The space is small but ornate, with a large Tiffany stained glass window at one end, a pipe organ in the center, and tall painted ceilings. I have nothing but love for a church who turns a blind eye to who you love and simply wants to celebrate the union, and even more love when they accept everyone with open arms (and a delicious spread of cheese, crackers, and apples with caramel!). We were welcome to receive communion and invited by many parishioners to join them for coffee hour after the service . Children are definitely welcome here! The house itself is not bad. (To them, it's a luxurious mansion and they will speak of each room…read morethat way, so be prepared, lol.) It IS quiet and well-kept, and some rooms do have nice views. As far as spiritual guidance goes, they do the best they can, given their levels of education and life experience and their own waxing and waning connections to love, so you just need to remember to keep a positive attitude and an open mind, forgive them when they're not sorry, and don't expect their deep intellectual understanding on every issue (especially if you disagree with them.) Also, do not expect clear explanations, curiosity about your life, them remembering what you've already told them, or them being open to constructive criticism in how to guide you. And do not expect logic or even empathy. Instead, simply relish the way they celebrate your joys alongside you, honor what you believe is sacred, and ask unique questions about your thoughts. I would say they're not recommended if you're going through a hard time or looking for a long-term spiritual mentoring relationship, though, as they do expect absolute perfection in your moods. Your spiritual guide may suddenly tell you outright that they are not your friend but then may ask you what you think of them, and they may be quite rude at times, may laugh at strange unexplained moments, may share insights about you with their friends without really knowing for sure if those insights are true or not, and may "challenge" you in ways that make you angry. However, you are not allowed to get angry, lol -- that is the challenge, I guess. But they give very interesting reading recommendations, sincere hugs, and they are always in a calm happy state, which can be nourishing in and of itself. Also, they will stick with you until you feel done (or just feel done with them, lol.) Mine was even willing to be at my death bed upon special request, since I am new in town and alone. They are essentially loving. And while communication is not their forté , they do offer something elusive that modern culture does not. I will not be returning at this point, but I did get a lot out of the experience.

An ode to my polling place on Election Day 2020! I've voted here in every primary and general…read moreelection since 2018 (save this year's general, where I voted early at the David F Gantt Community Center.) This polling place serves a huge chunk of residential East Irondequoit and always has big turnout. Such a large and important undertaking takes the best of poll workers, and I am happy to say that's what you'll find here. The same woman has been leading the charge here (I WISH I knew her name) since it has been my polling place, and she runs a tight ship in the best possible way. When I think of unspoken heroes I always think of her and people like her who hold up our democracy in the most amazing ways. I had moved right around election day a few years ago and my polling place hadn't yet switched over. They gave me an affidavit ballot and ensured I was well on my way to making my vote count. I never had an issue again and everything seemed to be cleared up. The space itself is spacious and has a large parking lot, making it super clear where to enter to place your vote. My partner said they were armed with plenty of hand sani this year and masks for anyone not wearing one. He was in and out in 15 minutes right when polls opened. I always look forward to placing my vote and having an amazing, community-forward polling place really makes it a fun annual experience.
