I decided I wanted to show people who don't go to New Life how great it is! (; I think I started coming to NLC around end of summer-ish. I grew up going to church in Tacoma basically my whole life which means I have heard of NLC but always went somewhere else. I thought I would see a lot of familiar faces (this is after I got back from my 1.2 years in California). Not really... surprisingly. Wow it has been almost half a year already and I am so thankful for all the people I have met here. I know it was God who placed me at NLC after I felt alone and abandoned(; I grew closer to Christ with the help of my lovely friends at church! I was so happy to see how bright everyone was shining from their love for God. I really like the pastor's sermons too! I grew up listening to sermons.. that went through one ear out the other. But here, every Sunday I whip out my phone and take some meaningful notes. Later throughout that week or month, I scroll through and I think, "oh wow! That's perfect timing to read this message again". To whomever sees this from New Life Church, I just want to thank you all for making me feel welcome and at home(;

There are different areas for people to enjoy their worship experience. Tables are available for sipping coffee or tea and enjoying service. There is a sanctuary too if you just feel sort of conventional. And there is a nursing room for mothers to relax with their babies. And there is a children's church too.This is a great combination. There was probably over 60 people and all seated within a 20 foot radius. Also, We arrived at 9am because their website says service starts at 9, and instead we waited till 10am for service to start. Music was extremely loud and lasted almost 45 minutes. Standing so long got us tired very quickly. People then sat literally right next to us (less than a foot away) with their being probably 100 empty seats and they decided not to wear a mask either, needless to say, we left and aren't coming back.

My interaction with this Church has been limited, as most things have been closed down and large…read moregatherings not allowed. However, I will say that while attending their virtual services, I have been impressed as to their messages, the love they share, and the genuine message of Jesus they share. Their description of what it means to be an American Baptist Church says much: "...it means everyone is invited to come to the Table for Communion because we believe God brings everyone together, no matter where you come from or the experiences you bring. It means we seek to be followers of the way of Christ and to help each person on their own journey. You'll find a mix of people here, all raising voices in praise and hands in service." They can be found on GayChurch dot Org as an affirming church that also supports same-sex marriage. Over email, they have been beyond kind and generous with communication and kindness. We're cautious about Covid (and now Delta) but anxious for our child to experience safe and positive social interaction with other kids at church. We'll be looking forward to when this opens. They're currently open for in-person worship on Sundays at 10am, but I haven't felt comfortable attending with my 4 year old (although they have been reassuring that she is welcome). I will update once we attend in person and as time goes on if we choose to keep attendance with Grace Baptist.

Pastor James Starr has a real God given gift for teaching the Bible and he does so in a way that everyone can relate to. This church doesn't make you feel bad if you can't give a tithe and the focus is always on teaching, giving back to the community and helping those in need. They do fundraisers and give to needy families. There is a very palpable sense of sincerity and love from the members. This church is ripe for a split and it will happen soon. Until the leadership is replaced with humble men who teach the Bible and not their opinions, this church will not be a healthy place to attend. Too bad, it's full of Godly men and women whose leadership has failed them and is pushing out those who dare to correct them.
