For the last 4 months I have tried to find a church. I tried over half a dozen churches many of which were recommended by co-workers or Yelp. The churches I went to were either too exclusive, predominately older in age, or not very warm and welcoming. However, this was a different church. The warm welcoming committee drew me in. Even though it was raining they all had smiles and were very excited that a newcomer (myself) had found their church. Upon walking in, the church lights were off with side purple and blue lights on. It was a medium size congregation (100+) which was predominately youth with young adults and families with small children. The perfect demographic for me. They had a live band play modern Christian praise and worship. Good topic focused message with supporting verses with a very passionate pastor. One con was that service is a bit long (2hours) starting at 11am. However, I was told today was a special long service. Overall, I wish I knew about this church 4 months ago. It's a great church passionate about Jesus. Has a great youth/Sunday school program with cell Groups (small groups) that meet weekly and do life together. Though I knew no one walking in, the people who welcomed me during the beginning of the service found me and introduced me to her cell group leader. That's when I knew this is my new church home.

The pastor put all his reference verses and talking points on the sermon notes that were printed out in the back for us "dead tree" enthusiasts, as well as online. So I was able to go back and check any questions I had afterward. He also was available to talk after the service and people were chatting him up. That is always a good sign that the teacher is aprochable. I didn't see or feel the malice or disrespect that some of the other reviews implied. I'm sure everyone's experience is different. The service featured contemporary worship, formal reading of the Word, Bible based teaching, self serve communion on the front and back tables, and a benediction with an offer to be prayed for immediately after. My new little family is still evaluating where we belong, but we felt welcome and safe here.

Working with the Deacon to organize the mass goes smoothly and our family needs are met. The music ministers are wonderful and very talented. Don't forget to check the rectory hours when you need to go into the office. They are closed for lunch. Mass is at noon so go in and get your business done before mass because they'll be at lunch when mass is over. I appreciate that having a mass said for a family member or friend is still only $10 and there are always several masses to choose from. The office staff is so friendly and helpful.

Pastor Scott is so friendly and personable, and his wife is present and just as involved as he is. He is so humble and open and speaks to us as we are having a one on one conversation. Everyone in this church is right there with you, walking along side you. The worship team is amazing, and singing as a congregation is heart warming and soul filling. There is a live stream if you can't make it in person, and is ASL friendly. There is also a "break out room" in case you need to step away, but don't want to miss out on the service. When you are at South Valley, God is with you and you feel the love so whole heartedly. I walk away every Sunday feeling full of God's love and grace.
