We got married in a Episcopal Church and we said when we had a baby we would join a Episcopal church and we joined St Andrews in San Bruno CA. We took classes and was presented to Bishop Swing in a ceremony at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. That was 34 years ago. We moved to Valley Springs when our son was 4. When we moved here we never did join another church but since my husband died this past June we were together over 43 years. I decided I needed spirituality in my life and saw St Matthews was the closest Episcopal Church. Though I have gone just 4 times the small parish is very welcoming.

They have great kids teachers but sometimes kids who lie and want things all for themselves and I hope to be a Sunday School teacher there for them. This is the first and oldest Serbian Church in the United States and Canada. The construction of the church started early in 1894. The church bell was presented to the church by the Russian Bishop, the Rt. Reverend Nikola. This church sure stands out. A few years ago my mom was visiting me and we saw the church from the street above and we were determined to find it. This is one gem you won't want to miss. I've taken the kids here a few times now. Within its time many events have happened. Many loved ones have died. Many loved ones have been born. What an absolute gem of a little church we have in Jackson, the tiny Serbian Orhtodox church, atop…read morea pristine, elaborate graveyard in front; and the paintings on the interior have to be seen to be believed. Best time to do this is at their vespers service. No, I'm not Serbian, and certainly not orthodox, but this place is just unbelievable. It's a little known fact that this is the very first church of its kind in America, built in the early 1890's.....the mother church for that faith, and it's a stunner, and a visual standout as you come over the hill to descend into the town of Jackson and look slightly to the left. (Jackson was also home to the first synagog in California, right around the corner, at what is now the elementary school. )They also have the St. Sava Serbian mission campgrounds on the other side of town where Serbs gather every year over 4th of July weekend for an annual event that's fun and has real cultural significance.
