I have been going to GB North Phoenix now for a few years. I couldn't live without GB. They become a part off you life. A lifestyle. During COVID when a lot of places shutdown, they beefed up their online platform so we could still do classes from home. The instructors are world class. They make sure everyone is safe while training. They have women's classes and kids. I treacle a lot too so its good to know that I am welcome at any of the 900+ schools world wide. Good place to do Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Gabriel is a great instructor. The students are fantastic. They have a strict uniform policy that all other schools don't oppress their students with. At first I didn't think much of it however they canceled my membership with no explanation and now I'm stuck with $1000 of gear I can not use anywhere else. The belt promotions are largely determined by attendance which in my observation is loosely followed. And then there's Coach Vivi. She is an egomaniac. We had an altercation a few months ago where she exploded at me chased me into the men's locker room hitting me several times trying to provoke me. Coach Vivi enjoys a unique position at the school she's married to the head instructor Flavio Alameda so she gets away with acting like a Diva. I don't recommend Gracie Barra. It is a pure money grab at the expense of their students. read more

My family has been training jiu jitsu at Gracie Barra for over a year now. We came from another school and were attracted to Gracie Barras large facility, large class sizes, class structure, cleanliness, class times, and the nice mats. I just started and am a white belt, along with half the class, and love that there always several black belt Professors that instruct as well as many other higher ranks to learn from. Coach Vivi is a great womens jiu jitsu coach and also leads other womens self defense classes to help empower women to become more confident. My husband and daughter have both advanced in belts and enjoy the great variety of training partners in age, size and rank that they get to work with. read more

I don't write many reviews but Gracie Barra has helped me in more ways than I had thought it could. All the professors and coaches are like extended family, they really care that you make progress. This place is amazing really. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and always try's to make sure their students are doing okay Edit: The staff at this specific school is amazing* they are great people that want to teach you jiu jitsu. However, Gracie Barra as a whole follows a business practice that is very unfriendly towards the consumer and good luck trying to get your membership canceled because it seems like whoever is in charge of emails just ignores them half the time. If you're thinking about signing up I would really make sure that signing a contract for a martial arts program is right for you. read more

Came and visited this GB location while vacationing with my family in Arizona, last December. First thing I noticed about this GB location was how friendly and accomodating Professor Gabriel and Coach Toxa were straight off the bat! This place has a really positive vibe about it and it showed when talking to the other students I trained with or came into contact with while training here. This GB location has a MASSIVE training space and is super clean!! Professor Gabriel and Coach Toxa's explanation and break down of the specific drills and moves were easy to follow and clear. Gracie Barra is hands down the best BJJ school in the world and out of the 700+ GB schools around the world the North Phoenix location in particular which is owned by Flavio Almeida the head of development for all 700 GB schools. If you are going to pick a martials arts school this is the one. If you are going to pick a Gracie Barra this is the one. There is only one way you will ever find how amazing this place is... If you simply walk in the door and feel the energy from the moment you are greeted you will know you are somewhere special and no amount of writing I can do will ever do it justice. First, they never answer their phone or communicate and have virtually no online or email - it pretty much forces you to come in. NEVER PREPAY !!! I sadly did this and injured myself after only a month as they have no instructions on beginners and how hard you should train and effort you exert within class. Actually, in my short month or so at class there were many injuries with many going out and many coming back after being out - they really have no beginner tutorial classes which are sadly needed. Anyways, after not going for some 11 months and refusing to return any of the pre-paid year even after having a doctors note they have the gall to renew my membership WITHOUT contacting me AT ALL. SUPER SHADY! And that's really the whole review of this place... just a really shady business I would never recommend. read more

If you are looking for a healthy way to have your children gain confidence, strength and overall discipline, this school is the place. We have our 3 & 6 year old enrolled and they are loving every minute. The instructors are patient, caring and instill valuable life lessons every session. Both kids look to Professor Gabriel as a role model and when they start misbehaving outside of class all we have to do is mention that Professor would be upset and it typically will calm them down:). Gracie Barra North Phoenix has not only changed my life, but has made my family stronger. I can not say enough good things about this organization and in particular this school. Every single staff member has become family, and I literally don't know what I would do without them in my life. It's amazing how just over a year ago I was sitting on the sidelines watching my son and husband participate in class with no intentions of joining myself. Now, I train almost everyday, compete, and consider GB North Phoenix my second home. Professor Flavio is a successful business owner, athlete and extremely motivational speaker. Professor Gabriel is an amazing instructor for adults, but connects with the kids like nothing I have seen in any other Martial arts school. Coach Vivi is the embodiment of health and wellness and does so much for the progression of Women's self-defense, building confidence, and pushes you to be your best self. I've been a GB student for 10 months now and can say with 100% certainty that GBNP is absolutely legit. With ZERO background in BJJ when I first started, my basic understanding of the art and fundamentals has grown and I am also in the best shape of my adult life. EVERYTHING about this school (my school) is worth it. Gracie Barra's unique 16 week "GB1" fundamentals curriculum was the perfect road map for a "forty something" like me to begin my jujitsu journey. My instructors are passionate, patient, experienced, true to the curriculum, and know exactly what they are doing and where they are going. The facility is very clean and well maintained. "Jiu Jitsu for everyone" is the GB Mission, and this message has been consistent from day one. The academy is very much white-belt beginner friendly, kid friendly, women empowered friendly, etc. For those in the advanced stages of Jiu Jitsu (white belt 3 stripes and up, blue, purple, brown, and black belts) can get their fix in the GB2 advanced classes, or if you really want to step it up you can work out with the Competition Team (beast mode for sure). All in all the vibe is very humble, fun, welcoming and friendly, consistent, disciplined, and led by world class champions many times over who live by our founder's core values (Master Carlos Gracie Jr.) and who set a great example for the rest of us to follow. What a great facility. I have always wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu and to see they opened up 2 minutes from my office I finally had access. I have been a member for almost 2 months now and what I have learned in 2 months is amazing. The instructors are great and really take the time to teach you. Professor G and Professor Gabriel are great. They are very detailed oriented which is extremely important. Took my first class with Professor Flavio a week ago as well and he was awesome. Additionally, we brought our kids to the parent class and my wife and kids truly enjoyed. So important for them to learn self defense at an early age. I highly recommend this facility. read more

I've been training at Gracie Barra now for 9 months and I can't speak highly enough about the cohesiveness of the staff and curriculum. Brittany does a great job keeping the place together and is always there when you have a question (even when she's off work!). What can I say about the professors? Well, we have a world renown legend and champion who is one of the most humble men I've met, Professor Flavio Almeida. He trained directly under the Gracie family. Prof. Gabriel and the coaches are excellent. Coach Vivi is wonderful. She's always smiling and continues to motivate me to do Barra Fit (a rigorous "boot camp" program to increase endurance, stamina, and lose weight).
