Esso EG Barracks
ESSO EG Barracks is a service/petrol station, a close distance away from Burnley Barracks Station,…read moreit's a large/modern outlet which also includes a Spar store and a standalone Starbucks location which has a drive-thru, and is also the only Starbucks in Burnley so that's pretty handy too. The store is open 24/7 as you'd expect, they have a Starbucks Coffee machine inside and a small range of food/grocery items, some items were reasonably priced for a petrol station and not ultra-expensive, but obviously, you wouldn't want to buy food items from here unless you had no other option as they still end up costing considerably more than nearby supermarkets. Petrol is, of course, a little expensive here as you'd expect. The overall service station was pretty clean, I liked how they have a clear pathway from the street for pedestrians who want to access the store which is handy, although it is a good walk from Burnley town centre and even Barracks Station, so I would say to come in a car if you're able too. Sadly, there are no Amazon Locker facilities here, although a nearby Texaco garage/service station which is just under a mile away does offer them, I do think they're missing a trick by not offering them here, however, as there is a lack of them in Burnley as a whole. 4*
Spar Convenience and Total Garage
Home to the rude boys of the curry mile the total garage is a harbourer of petroleum and snacks…read more The cash point outside will cost you to withdraw from! What a rip. But indoors the mini supermarket is a useful spot for picking up those last minute forgotten items. For some reason though you can buy firewood! The chaps outside aka the rude boys are to be avoided and sadly most of them rent their vehicles from the car rental place down the road, which is obvious when you see how badly they drive.
Reasons why one would go to this shop/petrol station:…read more 1) To buy booze to take to a curry mile establishment with a BYOB policy 2) To show off a pumpin' automobile 3) To marvel at souped up cars 4) To take out cash Personally, I've only ever used it for reason 1, for which it was perfectly sufficient. As the others have mentioned, reasons 2 and 3 are strictly for bad boys and reason 4 costs you a couple of quid, so pop up the road to HSBC where you can access your hard-earned cash/student loan for free.

Facilities are all a bit worn and to be honest the welcome is a bit worn down too. A last resort for the weary traveler. Better available just off the motorway if you are organised. I would advise all potential customers to avoid this garage…read more I was needing a last-minute service and MOT, but my usual garage was fully-booked for the next 10 days. I phoned Champion and Emmett, and they were able to fit me in the following morning (in hindsight, this should have been a red flag). When I dropped my car off, the mechanic I spoke to quoted me 'approximately £200', and that if any additional work was required that they would phone me to discuss and approve. Later that day, I returned to collect my car. It had passed its MOT; a new cylinder and bearing had been fitted. The bill came to nearly double the quoted price - £376. I had had no discussions with the garage regarding any additional work or cost. The mechanic present was unable to negotiate the price and kept stating 'I thought the gaffer had rang you'. Eventually, he rang the owner, 'Ashley', who had done the work. He fully acknowledged that no discussion had taken place regarding additional work. It took a long and unpleasant discussion to reduce the price - initially Ashley had asked for £300 (in cash). In the end, I agreed to pay £250, but even then, I feel as though I have been taking advantage of. It is garages like this that give mechanics a bad name.

They explain what is wrong with the car and you really feel like your getting a personal service. I much prefer to go to a local garage than a chain garage. They offer accident repairs, resprays, general body repairs, MOTs, services and other mechanical repairs. They are reasonably priced too for the work that they do, you do need to book in advance though as they are often busy.

What a change to find guys who actually care about your pride and joy. I know my cars (ex pro racer) and I've been around garages for five decades but not found a better one this last ten years.
