We first enrolled with Grade Potential Tutoring in Austin, Texas last year. The tutor assigned to my daughter was excellent--she enjoyed working with her, and I believe the sessions had a positive impact on her grades. When summer arrived, we decided to pause tutoring services since our schedule becomes much busier due to frequent out-of-state travel. I notified Grade Potential that we would not be using tutoring services during the summer, requested that billing be stopped, and indicated we would resume once the school year began. However, I later noticed continued billing from Grade Potential despite my previous notification. Assuming it was an oversight, I contacted their office and spoke with a representative who reversed the charges. I believed that resolved the issue and that we would restart services when school resumed. To my surprise, while reviewing my credit card statement later, I discovered several additional unauthorized charges from Grade Potential. I contacted them again, and while the charges were again reversed, I expressed frustration and requested that no further billing occur unless we were actively using their services. When the new school year began, our previous tutor was no longer with the company, so we requested a replacement. The new tutor was excellent as well. Unfortunately, her visit reminded me to review my account again--at which point I discovered three more unauthorized charges made during the months we were not receiving services. I contacted the company a third time to request refunds and expressed my displeasure with their billing practices. I was referred to a manager named Taylor, to whom I explained the situation. Taylor offered to refund only two of the three unauthorized payments, stating that their system required at least one charge to keep the account active. This explanation is unacceptable. Their internal computer system should not result in customers being charged for services not rendered. I made it clear that I expected a full refund and explained that we would continue only if the issue was resolved. Otherwise, we would terminate our business relationship. Taylor was dismissive, spoke over me during the conversation, and was generally unprofessional. As a result, I decided to discontinue doing business with Grade Potential Tutoring. This is disappointing because the tutors themselves were excellent. Unfortunately, the company's billing practices and poor customer service overshadow their good work. I will no longer be using Grade Potential Tutoring and would advise others to proceed with caution unless they are comfortable being billed for services they did not receive. Don't bother with this service. They have been awful to deal with. We had paid for weekly tutoring sessions. The tutor showed up for 2 weeks then just didn't show. I called and asked why I would be charged when the tutor isn't showing up and they apologized and said they would credit me a session and set me up with a new tutor. We had a few sessions with this new tutor and then she didn't show up at the agreed upon time. Grade potential kept charging me. I called to ask for a refund and they tell me they don't give refunds. I had to argue that the service was not rendered as agreed upon and she finally offered me a partial refund. I would never expect a client to pay for service they didn't receive. Grade potential is a joke. Posting an ad on your local Facebook group page is probably a better way to go because they are simply a go between that will take your money even if they don't provide the service they agreed to. read more

This company has been the worst by far! The continuous cancellation without any notification, the hassle of trying to talk to someone, or even find a tutor. Just don't I hired them on a Friday for six hours to help with an essay my son had to take on the next Wednesday. I get contacted by the tutor, we set times for the next three days for two hours each. I hear nothing more until two minutes prior to our session, when I text them, and they are unaware that GPT has special software. Why? Because not only did GPT not send me any communication about what to expect, they also didn't send anything to their tutor. Completely dropped their end of the communication, and therefore, neither of the end users knew what was supposed to happen. So the tutor cancels Saturday to have time to figure out the program. They cancel Sunday because somehow they didn't know their internet wasn't working. They bump Monday back a half hour, then the appointed time rolls around with zero contact from the tutor. I call them and they're just opening their computer and getting ready. They call back 10 minutes later and are finally ready to go. I called GPT and they offered an extra hour of tutoring. I said that is useless as there are only six hours left available to use as my son is in school. She sends me to someone else after I demand a refund of $150, who says she can't do that because some dumb reason, and then offers me two hours extra. I ask if she thinks they've been doing their job well and why would I want two more hours of extremely bad service. She ended up refunding $90, better than nothing. Never again. read more

I clearly requested a tutor for my special needs (autistic, verbal) child for 3 days a week, 1-hour sessions. The tutor they assigned immediately told me she was only available 2 days. After just one successful session, where my daughter was fully engaged and there were no issues, the tutor canceled the second session via text and said my daughter should be reassigned to someone "who specializes a little more with special needs." When I called to cancel the service, the operator tried to push me off the phone and said someone else would call me back. I had to insist on staying on the line just to get it canceled. The whole experience felt disorganized and dismissive. I would never recommend this service, especially not for families with special needs children. Then I received multiple emails every day, texts every day despite my telling them I would get back to them after the weekend. THEN, these jerks texted me early on a freaking Saturday morning! This company operates under a few names it seems - in Charlotte they are Tutor Hero but the credit card charges as Grade Potential, so watch out. We made the mistake of reaching out for tutoring help. We love our tutor but the company's business practices are incredibly shady and deceptive. They talk you into a package of hours at a "discounted" rate which is still very high - like $60+/hour. Then you receive a vague text verifying your details. No contract. No payment schedule. No portal to track your hours used. No summary of policies, like what happens when a tutor doesn't show up, how do you cancel, what's the refund policy - none of this is supplied. Just an extremely vague text with the details on the package that they say you agreed to. They only communicate through text until you have to call the office. No web presence to speak of for Tutor Hero so you can't check anything. We got through two tutoring sessions and called to cancel - very combative on the phone. They don't tell you this upfront but if you cancel within the 30 days you get refunded, but if you don't they have some common core math way of charging you for the hours you "signed-up for" but don't use. So my initial experience with them wasn't so bad. The tutor was ok... not the best, but that isn't my issue with them. After 6 months of using the service we decided that our son wasn't responding to it, and his grades were not improving. Again no reflection on the tutor or their service. It is a two way street and our son has to want the help for the service to be useful. Is issue is with canceling! I have tried 5 times now over several months with no luck. Every 2 weeks they charge my CC, and every 2 weeks I have to dispute the charges! I text to cancel... then get a phone call saying that I can't cancel by text or email... so I try to call back, and just get their VM service. Even the "emergency" option doesn't even work. So unless I just happen to be available when they call there is NO chance to cancel this service! I unfortunately travel a lot for my work, and in a lot of different time zones and sometimes do not even have service. The tutor has not come in months now, so clearly I do not want the service anymore! Companies with these types of predatory business practices should be sued, so if there is anyone else you there's having this same experience and wants to start a class action lawsuits against them... I signed my daughter up for biology and geometry tutoring. We paid for 8 hours they said that if we did use all of them it would just go back on my card. We'll that wasn't quite the case. Not only did they try to take 8 hours worth of tutoring off my card multiple times (haven't not used the hours we had paid for) they neglected to tell me that they only give you back part of your money after 30 days. So instead of getting the $340 that I was supposed to get back, they gave me $292. Do not go here. My daughters geometry tutoring didn't even know geometry. 20 minutes out of the hour he was trying to figure it out himself! Some of there tutors are good others not so much . The staff is same some are rude and horrible others are ok . Their pricing is miss leading. Depending on who you talk to you either get a straight answer or a run around . When they find you a good tutor, it's a good experience. When you have to deal with not being able to find one and also they're rude stuff it's not great. But like I said some of the staff is helpful. The WORST!!! and if there was a no-star rating, that's what this company will get from me! I called the company letting them know my kid had scored over 30 without any practice and needed someone to help him bring that score up by 2-3 points. That's all. I wanted an ACT tutor. They assigned an ACT tutor for my son four days after the day they said would be the day they would find us a tutor at the latest. The tutor was very vague about her work credentials. She claimed to be a Spanish and French tutor as well.. the only problem was, she did NOT know any French when I tried to get her to speak to me That's when she changed it to:"I know some I'm not fluent".. she did not even prove to know "some". Then she told me".. but I'm fluent in math". I asked her about her experience with ACT tutoring and she informed me she'd only tutored SAT BUT that she did take it and did really well on it. Her score she told me, was a 23. When I pointed out it was lower than my kid's when he took it in 7th grade, her answer was, "back when I took it, it was out of 30 not 36".. Well, there goes her "fluent in math" claim with that too. A 23/30 is an equivalent of a 27/36.. still bad!! I asked her about her track record with the SAT since she claimed that SAT was her "thing", she told me she was tutoring students with mental disabilities and they had not taken the test yet. (This is someone who supposedly worked for this company tutoring for two years... No one she tutored had taken the SAT yet! She claimed she was an after school music teacher. I called the one school she named and they had NOTHING nice to say about her. The next day after calling the company ans texting them, I got a reply at 12:30 PM the following day. The company "team member" said she was calling me BECAUSE THE TUTOR I SPOKE WITH DID NOT WANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH TUTORING MY SON!!!! Really? Because I texted you with full details about how much of an idiot and a liar this "tutor" was and I was asking for my deposit back. She did not as much as dignify this experience with an explanation or an expression of shock that their tutor misrepresented herself.. She went into robotic office lady mode telling me, "well, I'm sorry it didn't work out with the tutor".. that's it. This company is a fraud! I would not recommend it to anyone. For all you know, you could be getting a child predator or some random person off the street trying to earn a quick buck! Becky was very rude to me as if she was just having a bad day when I called to request a different tutor because the one that called me seemed to struggle with English and I needed a reading tutor for my grandson. She became argumentative, so I told her to cancel my services since the person never called me back and Becky was being unprofessional. She quickly went through one rebuttal after another as if it was a stream of consciousness, never stopping to see if I had anything to say. One person having a bad day can cause a company to lose potential business. I am assuming she maybe working from home. A major reason why working from home is an issue. A person is obviously upset about something personal and takes it out on the customer. She was googling the material during the session (we asked for another tutor); next tutor cancelled more appointments than attended (we asked for another tutor); next tutor thought it was ok to tutor from his bed without pants on (we asked for another tutor); next tutor had to google material and no showed before a test. I am so disappointed with this company and their sales/customer service. When I signed up I was told payments would be based on hours we had used. So basically, I'd pay for a certain amount of tutoring hours then once we'd used them I'd pay for another amount of hours, etc. I signed up in the beginning of July. I was charged $176 then again $176 mid July then $176 first of August then again mid August. I was confused so I called in. Cindy answered, I started to explain the situation she cut me off right away and started blaming their "new guy" Kyle for not explaining correctly. Then she proceeded to tell me that he had sent me texts showing links to the invoice that would show I signed up for a total payment of $6k by November 2023. I asked for the phone number it was sent from so I could review my text messages to see where I had received this text full of info that I had agreed to. She was unable to assist with that. It got to the point that I am now canceling despite the fact that we truly enjoy our tutor and he has helped both of my kids in a short time. There are tutors all around me that were expensive but not this expensive. I could've signed up with them but decided to use Grade Potential due to the way they worked with hours used and paid for - it made sense. The most unprofessional company I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with... They're poorly run, have zero accountability and are rude. The first tutor they provided didn't show up or call for her appointment. They scrambled to provide a tutor at the last minute and even that tutor complained about the company. Then, when I tried to schedule a new tutor for this school year using the hours I had remaining they refused to email a professional quote. After repeatedly requesting a proper quote (they appear to only use text to communicate) the young man who answered my last call announced that I was "unpleasable" because I couldn't leave my office to contact them from my personal cell phone. Unused hours can happen due to a late start in the ability to utilize as you pay prior to a tutor being found. They refuse to refund unused hours, they say the pricing changes after 30 days even though there are no written terms or conditions. From the very start, the payments and accountability were a total joke. When the tutor didnt turn up or the tutoring could not happen (holidays etc), money would still be taken. Despite numerous attempts to balance the hours along the way. Many times i was told that my payments were matching the hours required (a set 10 hours per week - so not hard and not variable), by a number of people on email and phone - only to be hit with a bill for over 15 hours when i was complete. They asked me at that point to question the last 8 months of hours used etc so BE AWARE.. Keep meticulous notes and dont trust what you are told. Eventually some hours added in error were taken off. i asked for accountability to the numerous emails in the last 6 weeks stating i was on track for payments = hours used, but this question was continuously avoided. There are many other tutoring companies out there. The tutors can be good but there are many companies who will run the process far more smoothly, friendlier and with more professionalism. Grade Potential Tutoring is a fantastic resource for academic support and mentoring. I've been using their services for about five years, first for my daughter and now for my son. We worked with several tutors and we loved every single one of them! Particularly Kurt, who helped my daughter with her creative writing, and now Douglas, who works with my 6 year old son that counts the minutes to his next meeting with his tutor! I looked into getting a math tutor for our daughter after months of struggling with homework. Hearing, "I hate math," every day from her broke our hearts. We were spending upwards of 2+ hours every night working on homework instead of having quality family time and our relationship with her started to feel the affects after most nights ended in tears. In March of this year I purchased a package of 188 hrs with Grade Potential Tutoring. I was very excited the representative explained I would receive separate sections for my 3 children. After almost a whole month a tutor had finally contacted me for availability. However, once given my availability, they were not as flexible as they made it seemed. At this point I was ready to request a refund. I was desperate, I even allowed my children to miss sports matches so that would open up my availability. And again I was promised someone would be reaching out. They never showed any empathy about the fact that I paid over $400, and had yet received services. Finally someone contacted us about late April, and of course he bought more time as well for the company. Our 1st happened over a week later being that he was sick. I felt I had no choice but to cooperate with their availability. He shows up with nothing like any tools to teach. He didn't engage a lot with my children. Of course I felt I should just let him get more comfortable. So I did. My children had split 2 hours that day. The second day he was sat their and watched them do homework standing for an hour, and then he left early. The 3rd day he did the same thing stayed for 1 hr and left just sitting their after I requested that he could sit down. I watched him from the other room as he sat a distance away from my children. He barely said anything. My children post after his visits never completed their homework. I asked why he was leaving early and he confirmed he had prior arrangements. I called to have another tutor and they said that they would provide a tutor and give me 2.5 hrs back. I updated my number during that call. And after a 2 weeks of waiting I decided to call to cancel services. The representative responded unfriendly as told her I wanted to cancel. She then explained that it would be about a week before I would receive a call about cancelling and receiving a refund. It's been 1 week since I I have not received any call about my refund.
