Grafton Street has a lot of the best stores in Dublin, but there is more to it than shopping. It is one of the few places in the city where people are freely allowed to sing, play instruments, recite poetry, do whatever they want. It isn't annoying or bothersome like many other cities. These are real artists--not beggars. A walk down Grafton Street is a walk through the heart of the city of Dublin. I love Grafton Street, even when it is busy. There is always some musician playing on this pedestrian way and I think it has a lot of charm.

Methinks Grafton Street is probably cooler to locals that it is to tourists. As a tourist, I didn't really come to another continent to check out a Disney store or foot locker, I have plenty of them on my side of the pond! Nothing here is uniquely Ireland, at least to me. It is outrageously crowded and not exactly conducive to a pleasant stroll. No big deal! read more

What can you say? It's a landmark and you will find many of the top shops here. If you are like me and live down the Green LUAS line you will find yourself walking through here at least once a week. I love the vibe, but sometimes do get sick of the tourists who tend to stop right in the middle of the footpath to stare at buskers! read more

However, the performances are quite nice and if you head down this street after the shops are closed it can actually be quite nice. For example Londis is a convenience store that sells a whole conglomerate of necessities and therefore exists to provide those pernickety goods you find you need all of a sudden when you're on the move. Yet the street also steps up to the plate when it comes to indulging the cosmopolitan, affluent shopper in the form of Brown Thomas, BT2 ('Brown Thomas 2' that sells only idiosyncratic garments for the younger, hipper crowd but still for the same expensive prices seen in the original BT across the road) and Karen Millen who pay Dublin City Council €1,000,000 rent per annum for the shop space they occupy. I find it difficult so get the locks chopped without either looking like a 6 yr old or coming out with something resembling a mullet...this is one of the few places I get neither, plus theres the option of beer instead of the tea or coffee, bueno! read more

Grafton Street is one of the most well-known of Dublin's streets. It has the same fame as 5th Avenue in New York or Regent Street in London. Along this street is one of Ireland's most exclusive stores, Brown Thomas, and also Bewley's Oriental CAfe, but just walking up the street is a real treat. There is often a festival feel to the area as choirs meet here to sing or buskers stake out a patch. The streets running off of Grafton Street are worth a visit too. read more

Grafton street is Irelands most well known street. It is pedestrianised which I think is definitely a good thing. Some of the things that make it better than Henry street are Brown Thomas, Bt2 and the big topshop at the end of it to the left. However, it does have one major disadvantage compared to Henry Street, no Penneys. Some of the other shops along the street include la Senza, Awear, River Island, Karen Millen and topman. It also has a Bewleys, a Butlers chocolate cafe, Mac Donalds, Captain Americas and Burger King. The reason I go to grafton street is that Brown thomas is the only place in Ireland that you can get Mac make up. read more

Shopping and walking around Grafton St area gave me a great feel of Dublin and a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Dublin. its been a few years since i been to dublin but i can still remember walking down grafton street and loveing every minute. not knowing what the next shop you cant see will stock and the friendly people smiling as you walk past its gives you a warm feeling. I remember going into a few shops that had the same layout a small shop on the same level as the high street and there being a lower level stocking more items.just reading all the other reviews about grafton street makes me want to come back and see the changes from about 10 years ago. read more

Grafton Street is situated in the centre of Dublin just south of the River Liffey. It is pedestrianised and is home to many street entertainers and musicians, many of whom are quite good. It is the one of best streets in Dublin for shopping and houses some of the more upmarket shops such as the department store Brown Thomas. There are many side streets off Grafton street which house some great pubs and small shops. Many buses and the light rail Luas stops near here so it's very convenient for public transport. The downside is it can be very crowded at peak shopping times and difficult to walk down. read more

The best thing about Grafton street is that it is topped and tailed by Saint Stephen's Green a beautiful and large urban park and Trinity College, with its glorious long room library, that many younger tourists who visit me recognize as Hogwarts library from Harry Potter, and it truly is magical! Grafton Street itself is a must for tourists, you can find high end shopping in Brown Tomas, lunch in historic Bewleys admiring art work and stained glass, afterwards you could get an ice cream in Gino's and listen to street musicians, some are just okay but others are absolutely incredible! Yes there are Burger Kings and phone shops but there is a great atmosphere, great shopping and some of the best pubs in Dublin are just off this street. An insider tip, the older looking the bar the better, I would avoid the shiny new places if you are looking for authentic atmosphere! read more

Grafton street is one of the greatest disappointments that a capital city could hope for. Due to the total lack of pedestrianised districts in the city centre in general, the absence of any squares or piazzas that might serve as a meet point, the purportedly atmosphere soaked thoroughfare is constantly chockablock with pedestrians trying to make their way accross a city without a public transport system, per say. The quality of the buskers is laughably low, even compared with smaller town in the country, notably Galway or Cork, and it's going to be hard enough to try and watch them either way with that hoard of teenagers/tourists/businessmen tramping you down. The architecture is totally destroyed by the fact that the city council had the great insight to pave the ground in red brick, the same as that of the walls, making you feel like you're on some contrived shopping districty in a 'new town' development of the Northern UK. All the original shopfronts a gone, replaced with UK franchises (adding to that New Town feling) and fast food joints, there are no benches, fountains, statues (apart from Ronald Mc Donald Phil Linnet tucked away to the side) or anything to decorate this grim parade except a steady stream of petty criminals. The white blocks in the pavement become ice slippery when wet- making walking quite a hilarious affair. read more

Grafton Street is a smaller and posher version of O'Connell Street with both the advantages and disadvantages of those labels. The street is home to some very beautiful old buildings, for example one of the two old Bewley's Cafes in the city centre (the other unfortunately closed down around 2003, when I moved up to Dublin). The street is, rather unfortunately, swamped by high street shops and as a result, high street shoppers. If you're interested in shopping in a busy but beautiful, car-free street, that also happens to be more expensive than other places, then it's the street for you. However, if like me, you want to avoid the crowds and predictable shops, then take a turn down one of the many side streets off Grafton Street and you'll find more interesting and comfortable places to be during the daylight hours. read more

Grafton St, with O'Connell St, is Ireland's busiest street for shopping. It is a very long street and connects Stephen's Green to College Green (Trinity College Dublin). It's always really really busy on here and its understandable why. There are a lot of expensive shops here, mainly the clothes shops. They have a few places to grab some food, the standard McDonalds and Burger King have a place on here. The buskers here give the place a bit of characte. It must be said though that some are much much better than others! It also has places like sports shops, places to go food shopping and places to get the latest technology. read more

Perhaps someone here can help me find information on a string quartet/band that we saw on Grafton Street when visiting Dublin a few years ago. My parents bought their CD and have since lost it--but it's beautiful and I want to use it for part of my upcoming wedding. It was a string band (maybe 4 or 5 members) playing and selling CDs on Grafton Street. They played string version covers of popular songs (classical and contemporary). I think I was hoping that they had little restaurants and coffee shops with out door seating so you could people watch, but it truly is just a wide street with A LOT of shops. It's great for shopping but really not much more. There are some street entertainers that were interesting, but other than just walking down it once, we left to go find a place to grab a drink. read more
