It is great for both a semiformal dinner or a date (no, you don´t need to suit up for this). Also they have two big screens which come in handy in times of Football (plus points for that). Service was also great! Our waiters were very atentive and patient (yes sometimes it takes me ages to decide on a dish) and they were also very outgoing and engaged with us (the kind of human warmth that is so hard to find here). In fact if this was my only criteria I would´ve definitely given the restaurant 4 stars or more. Food was really good, but there is always room for improvement.Tastewise, it was great. It was actually perfect for me (not oversalted, not too much oil or fat also healthy yet tasty). However, my criticism comes from the portion size vs. price criteria. Generally I am willing to pay a lot for small portions of food, if and only if they are mind blowing. I am still not entirely sure if I enjoyed my food to such extent. Additionally we had white wine, which was rather average. For these reasons only, I had to remove a star from my first Impression. Mucho love, D.

I dont speak any german yet the waiter was very understanding and helped me understand the dishes etc. We had 2 courses and not for a moment did we feel that we were veing rushed, we were there well beyond their closing time yet the staff were still extremely friendly and helpful The setting and decor is very suiting to an italian place. And now the food... it was outstanding.. cooked to perfection and very tastey. The food was excellent, the bill was low, perfect.. When i go to hamburg again i will be paying this place a visit

On my wanderings I happened upon Trattoria Cento Lire last night. It's quite a stylish little…read moreitalian restaurant at the city-centre end of the karoviertel. I had a 4 cheese pizza, which came to EUR7 and was absolutely delicious. The people on the table next to us had some amazing looking fish dishes, that came with a massive whole fish - I'll try that if I end up here again. On the way out the owner stopped us and asked whether we'd like a shot of grappa, so we took our coats back off and sat down again! It turns out that I'm not a big fan of grappa, but it's the thought that counts, right? If I have another good experience here I'll probably move it up to 5 stars, but for now 4 will do.

It's a popular place as the bulk of the tables already had reserved signs on when we went in around 5pm to book for 20:30 (this on January 2nd) so you're probably best advised to do the same rather than turn up on spec. The service was good, given the amount of customers on the night (& we had people join us as the meal went on which could have proved unhelpful) so I imagine it's excellent during any times when it's less than full. They don't though take cards (definitely not Mastercard), like many places in Hamburg, so be sure to have enough cash on you to cover every eventuality.
