But I paid extra for my sister and I to have access, so I was all in. We followed the signs into the building and hopped in line. The line formation reminded me of being at an amusement park. As we winded around and got closer we were given shoe covers to protect the glass. They had benches to sit on so you could place them over your shoes. They first make you walk out on one section where a photographer takes your picture in hopes you will purchase it. I was not interested, so when it was our turn we walked past the photo op spot. Once on the Skywalk, I looked down at my feet and could see the bottom of the canyon. It was wild! But not too scary. We slowly walked around taking videos and pictures. We could see the Colorado River. And there was a nice photo op spot with Eagles Point behind you. I'm not sure I would pay extra to do it again. But I'm glad I tried it as it was a unique experience. My sister enjoyed it as well.

Then, if you want to go to the viewing deck, it's about $20 more. So around $70 per person to be able to view the canyon. I went to one of the cafés to order a taco, it was $25. So even if I wanted to pay $25 per Taco, we would have to pay $51 for the When I talk to the Ranger, told him that we really couldn't pay $420 for six people to view the canyon, he actually let us know where to view the river going into Lake Mead. That was a nice place to stop and it was free lol. Other than every single thing you do costing a lot of money, it was interesting. The lamps and their tables provided us with more than enough electric plugs. The beds weren't the greatest, but it was OK for the one night we were there. The tours? We didn't go on any, but we did walk 2 miles on a hiking trail and saw the beauty of the outdoors (and their Zip Line). We brought our own food but there is a restaurant near the administration office. For entertainment, they had some games. I think they could benefit from donated games, too! Overall, it was good to contribute to the reservation. I have no idea how things are during the peak tourist months, but I would try to book early regardless.

This place dates back to the 1860s and was settled by pioneers trying to farm along the Virgin River. Unlike a lot of ghost towns, Grafton actually has several well-preserved buildings, including an old schoolhouse, homes, and even a cemetery. Walking through it feels quiet... almost too quiet. It's the kind of place where you can actually picture what life was like back then. And the setting? Unreal. You've got massive red rock cliffs from Zion in the background, which makes it feel way more cinematic than your average historical stop. It's no surprise this place has been used in movies. There's no entry fee, no crowds (usually), and no over-the-top tourist setup--just raw history and insane scenery. If you're already visiting Zion, skipping Grafton would honestly be a mistake. You…read moremay go to the wrong side of the mountain if you're not careful, it's best to use GPS coordinates. 36.982827, -113.503066 This is free to visit and an easy activity for families, singles, or groups. The hike is easy and short, less than a 1/2 mile. There is a sort of gate that you have to squish through. The best Petroglyphs are the right on the "trail". It's a short trip, I would pair this with glitter mountain and warner valley dinosaur tracks. This trail also has a toilet and picnic area on site. If it has rained recently you may not want to visit. Cars can get stuck in the mud! All wheel drive not required when it's dry. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and garbage bag. Keep an eye on kids so they aren't messing with the Petroglyphs, or can be tempting for them to scratch at things with the rocks laying around. Always clean up after yourself!

I love to look at the beams of wood in the ceiling and imagine someone decades ago that would have been looking at those same beams of wood. The LDS church owns and staffs the museum and dictates the script that is shared with visitors. Their narrative claims that Jacob Hamblin was called on an "'Indian Mission' and had great relationships with the Native American people." Strange, then, that the Mormon Pioneers still felt the need to set up homes in forts with 12 foot walls surrounding them. I think there's likely more to the story and includes the fact that the Mormon pioneers took over land from indigenous tribes by force. However, this review is about the home/museum and that in itself is interesting. Just take the story with a grain of salt and perhaps do further research do get the full perspective-not just one side.

A historically cool landmark…read more.. While we were hiking with Norm in Las Vegas, he mentioned The Last Spike. It sounded so awesome... it's a significantly important spot where the two teams of railroad track builders met and completed their mission! Alana and I set out to find The Last Spike. We followed the Yelp directions and walked from Las Vegas Boulevard to the railroad track, across and south of the Seven Magic Mountains. We were unable to find the marker. However, I found some loose, rusty spikes. Alana explained that they are dislodged with the vibration of the trains on the tracks...wow! Anyway, using Google maps, Alana found the informational sign across from where The Last Spike should be. It's on the same side of the road as Seven Magic Mountains and south of it. Hopefully, you'll be able to find it if you decide to take a look. It's an interesting piece of history !

Las Vegas Blvd to the railroad tracks over uneven desert sand, rocks, a small trench, cacti, and other things. It would have all been okay if I hadn't been doing this with recently bruised ribs! Sadly, we didn't even need to be out this way! After safely getting back to the car, I took a look on Google and found the right location. When in doubt, Google it! It is south of the location pin on Yelp. If you are coming from the Seven Magic Mountains (or Las Vegas), head south and it is on the same side of the road. If you pass the train bridge which crosses the road, you've gone just a little too far. This Last Spike is Nevada Historical Marker 195. This location is near where workers drove the last spike on January 30, 1905. It's always good to learn a little history. This was a neat piece of history to learn! There is a gravel path where you can drive right up to the sign. The Kia Soul made it up just fine. If you have doubts about driving on it, you can park near the entrance. There was a huge silver sign that we didn't see, maybe it is now gone? It said, "Track crews constructing West from Salt Lake City met track crews constructing East from Los Angeles". This sign should have been visible when we wandered to the tracks. I hope you will find this more easily than we did! I must say, we did have quite the adventure!!

Scenic (and dangerously scary) drive in Oatman AZ…read more Route 66 crosses the top of the Black Mountains via Sitgreaves Pass (elevation 3,523 feet). This was a fun and scary drive part of Historic Route 66! When hubby was driving on this mountain pass on our way to Oatman, I had to cover my eyes sometimes but then I would get dizzy so I kept my eyes open LoL! It took us about 45 minutes to reach the town of Oatman driving through an entirely paved road with very few guardrails. I would not attempt driving this road after dark. Sitgreaves Pass is listed in the website of dangerousroads.org. I snapped a screenshot of the description and the ride experience. The Junior League of Las Vegas maintains it and has tours. I had no idea who Antonio Morelli was. He was the music director at the Sands. This house is maintained to look like it was during the 1960s. He lived in this house. The house actually was moved here and has an interesting story about that. Go to the League website. If you're interesting in a tour you have to sign up for it. It's only during certain times.

For a long time, I have wanted to tour the Morelli house in DTLV. Last Saturday, I took the…read moreopportunity and went for the 11:30 AM tour. The Junior League of Las Vegas uses this house as its headquarters but it was also their mission to preserve the house as one of their projects. The house is a great example of mid-century modern architecture. Originally, it was located on the golf course of the Desert Inn Country Club Estates on the Sands/Twain side. When Steve Wynn bought the Desert Inn, the houses from the Estates were leveled except for the Morelli house which was able to be moved. It was the only home with a crawl space and thus could be lifted up to be moved. The house was donated to the Junior League. Part of the tour is a video of moving the house on September 30, 2001, and it's quite interesting to see its move to Eastern, down to Fremont, and up 9th to Bridger. The interior contains many things we don't see in houses today. The tile work of the sinks in the bathroom are amazing, and the step down shower in the master bath is amazing. The Junior League women do the tour and it's quite interesting. Thanks to them, this house has survived and with it part of Las Vegas history. For those who don't know, Antonio Morelli was the musical director for the Sands Hotel.

I read about this site a few weeks ago and decided it was one of the roadside attractions I had to…read moresee. I drove to Mesquite this morning with my GPS unit following the directions from the Yelp entry. This DOES NOT take you to the carvings. Instead, it leads you into the parking lot of a Flying J truck stop. The Rushmore art is 1.3 miles farther along the road. Check Google maps before you go if you want to be certain. Complete serendipity, after breakfast nearby, I saw a man working on on the Rushmore art.. It turned out it was Mr. Karns, the creator of this art work. I had a chance to chat with him . He was a very genial man explaining that it was not sandstone but hard compacted sand. There art art pieces stretch for about 3/4 mile from the Rushmore site. The road is wide and there is a wide blacktop shoulder on which you can drive or park to get photos and enjoy the work the man didl.
