At EVERY library I've ever been to, there is a countdown orchestrated by a librarian that starts 30 minutes before the library is to close, with updates every 5 minutes. -------- **crackle** "The library will be closing in 30 minutes. Please check out all necessary items as soon as possible. I repeat... the library will be closing in 30 minutes. Thank you." **crackle** "The library will be closing in 25 minutes. I repeat..." etc. etc. etc... -------- The EGF library, however, takes this one step further. Because it is such a small place, they go around and tell each INDIVIDUAL person that the library will, in fact, be closing in X minutes. They do this multiple times until the library actually DOES close. This in itself doesn't bother me. They want to go home, and I understand that. What bothers me is that I AM THERE EVERY SINGLE DAY, and they STILL feel the need to interrupt every 5 minutes to key me into the fact that the library WILL be closing in 30 minutes, 25 minutes, 20 minutes... etc. I KNOW what time the library closes, due in no small part to them telling me every single day. They know me, because I make a point to exchange a polite "hi" and "goodnight" to them every single day... and also because there are so few people that utilize the library. They know I've never EVER checked anything out, so it's not like I'm causing them extra work or cleanup at the end of the evening. If I must be out by 7:30, just say so, and I'll be out by 7:30. If you'd prefer 7:45, then say 7:45. But for the love of god, PLEASE don't subject me to the same nightly passive-aggressive conversation. I'm keeping the rating at 4 stars, in spite of this annoyance, because I really like BOTH this little library AND the cute old lady librarians who irritate me so. What an interesting and quirky little bookstore offering a good mix of new and used books. The…read moreteam working here and extremely helpful and want to ensure you find what you seek. They have a special deal as well, by 4 used books and get 2 free. How could a bibliophile resist when seeking used and out of print gems? The store also has a little restaurant inside where you can order food - not sure what exactly as on both of my visits I didn't check out the menu but it smelled good as I walked around the store.

I have never been in this bookstore. Not exactly sure why. They have a huge selection of new books…read moreand used books. They also have lots gifts and kids toys. I am trying to shop small and local this summer and support small businesses. I can't wait to try out the new crepe restaurant. My only downside would be that I thought the used book prices seemed high.

Bridge to higher education…read more My brother went here decades ago, he loved it. Was nice to walk the campus my brother spent a could have head of using college years at, far away from us. Pretty decent sized walkable campus. Visited the museum of art, bookstore, hockey arena.

Not going to give it one star because I don't know how the academics are, because I wasn't accepted…read moreinto this school. But here's why I wasn't accepted: I applied for a distance Master of Social Work program. When the time came to hear whether I got admitted and I heard nothing - not a yes OR a no - I called the school. The first person told me that part of my application was never transferred to the Social Work department from the graduate school. They said they'd look into it and call me back. A week went by and they never called back. I called again and they told me the same thing and that maybe they could get the app to the appropriate place, see (if I get accepted after a review) if there was space in the program for me and that they'd get in touch with me. They never did. Finally, after hearing nothing and nearing the starting date of the program, I wrote a letter to the graduate department (the department I was told never properly forwarded my information.) I asked for a return of my application fee, since it seemed this was an error on their part, not mine. I got a very nasty letter back about 3 hours later from a guy in the graduate department. He said he would not return any fee and OH! Guess WHAT?! They just got word from the social work department that my application was rejected. I wasn't good enough for the program and, by sheer coincidence, they made that decision on the day I complained. Which I would accept as truth if, well, I hadn't been accepted into the University of Southern California's social work program, or into the University of Denver's program. Two pretty kick-ass schools with exceptional programs. (USC's is ranked 10th in the country.) I hope this doesn't come off as someone just being bitter. I'm in a better position now, in an excellent school program, and I am very thankful this happened to me, actually. I just want to let people know my experience, and make a point to UND that they can't do things like this to people without the internet knowing all about it. Terrible service that deserves a bad review, in my opinion. And I still want my damn app fee back.

I had made a late lunch stop in East Grand Forks last Sunday. I was at a three-way intersection…read morewith its City Hall staring right at me. It was an unexpected find, but it worked out well as I was heading over to Bernie's. On a Sunday, no one has any inclination to hit City Hall. It was the perfect opportunity for me to take a photo or two at a quiet intersection. I was staring at the main entrance. On the left was a parking lot with a lot of spots. This building was completed in 2001. It looked pretty spiffy to me. This summer, the roof is expected to be replaced after an assessment, so looks are rather deceiving at first glance. This building has a conference room that can accommodate thirty people. It also has smaller conference rooms that have a capacity between eight and twelve people. I am guessing that city council meets here regularly. It would be cool to visit it during regular business hours. I'm not sure how I would hold up watching city council debate issues while it is in session. It was great stumbling upon this building while in East Grand Forks for the first time. (75)
