Amazing company and owner. Long story short, wasn't getting any power from the grid (HECO). Luckily, I have a PV solar system that was powering my house for 5 days. Requested HECO to come out and discovered the 100 amp breaker melted the plastic behind it and basically fell apart. Requested an electrician on Memorial Day and Johny responded very quickly and came out right away. Obviously checked the reviews prior to requesting him. Anyways, by just providing him a picture he could tell just the breaker needed replacing instead of the whole panel, which would've costed thousands. Johny is super knowledgeable and friendly. He ended up checking all my breakers and if there were any overload. Basically made sure everything is safe and up to par. Got everything done within an hour including having HECO come back to reenergize my house. Everything is back to normal again. So thank you very much Johny and Grand Hawaii Electric. Johny is great and is now my go-to for anything electrical. Don't let his youthful looks deceive you. He knows what he is doing. I originally reached out to him to put in a charging station for our new-to-us EV. He looked at our main power breaker and immediately noticed 2 things: he thought our service would need an upgrade for the EV and that the main breaker looked to be in bad condition. We talked through options for the EV and why he did not agree with what other electricians had recommended. His reasoning was sound and he felt the cost of upgrading our service was not worth the expense and suggested that we just try using the slow charger, which is what we have done and has been working fine. That saved us thousands. And he didn't charge anything for his advice. But we did have him replace the breaker. And he was correct about that too. It was rusted and he said would have stopped functioning in the very near future and the rust was beginning to fuse the breaker to the box, which would have then been difficult to remove. He took some electrical measurements before and after and discovered that the old breaker was actually slightly restricting the amount of power coming into the house. We then had him install some new exterior motion-sensor lights. Originally I wanted them on the same circuit as our other lights but he pointed out that the long runs of conduit would have to cross all our MANY a/c conduits and require some crazy bends. He suggested another solution which had much shorter runs with much less cross overs. No other electrician suggested alternates and his estimate was 1/5 of (yes, 1/5 OF) one electrician's quote partly because of the much-shorter, less-complicated runs...but only partly Honestly, I thought the other electrician's quote was a bit crazy. Johny responds quickly, shows up on time, finishes quickly and is reasonably priced. But very importanly, I trust his knowledge and his suggestions. I had an arc in one of the master bedroom outlets so I checked yelp for a licensed electrician. I contacted Johny at Grand Hawaii Electric based soley on his Yelp reviews and I'm glad i did. After checking the outlet he confirmed that it did arc and that the outlet was back stabbed. Because our house is over 30 years old I didn't trust that these back stab outlets to be safe so asked Johny to replace all of them including upgrading all the GFCI outlets. Turns out it was the right decision because 2 more outlets wiring had pulled out. I also had him replace some light fixtures. Johnny contacted me and told me his price for installation which was reasonable. So i set up a day and time that would fit my schedule. The day came and he arrived at the agreed time. (which is important to me) he was very humble and respectful to our home. He started his installation. Johnny is a perfectionist in his work ethic. Which is good for his customers and future customers. When he was done with the install he showed me how the ceiling fan worked with the remote. The breaker to my water heater was not showing any electricity going to it so I reached out to Grand Hawaii Electric and they responded quickly. Johny was very responsive leading up to making the appointment. He came to the property earlier then the appointment which was great since I just arrived there as well. He was able to replace the breaker which uncovered another issue with the water heater. So he worked on resolving that and an hour later there was hot water again. Johnny is the owner and the main electrician. That's right! Grand Hawaii Electric is managed by him. Nevertheless, his responsiveness was quick and my electric project went more smoothly than expected. The only thing that took some additional time was the need to give his updated insurance certifications to the condominium management where I live. However, Johnny immediately sent me the insurance documents and my condo immediately approved them, so I was able to start my project right away. Now that my condo management has his current insurance information, he can do work on any units in my building. On the day of the estimate, he was very punctual and arrived before the appointment time without even a few minutes of error. The estimate was free and I don't think there was any trick in his numbers. $50 of transportation expenses will be added to actual work only. Well, his actual work was kind and polite. He answered my questions in an easy-to-understand way. The only thing that surprised me was that he suddenly disappeared for more than 30 minutes without any warning during work. When my husband contacted him, wondering what had happened, Johnny told us went to the home center to buy parts. I was a little surprised, but when I asked him to let me know in advance the next time he disappeared, he honestly said he was sorry. Even with such a loss of time, his work was very fast and the finish was beautiful. He even completed one additional last-minute request within the original timeframe of our appointment. Of course, the price was not cheap, but the brightness of the lights in the house, including ceiling lights, can be adjusted, making it very comfortable. Johny was punctual, professional, and thorough. Originally, we were going to install the level 2 charger for our EV next to the electrical panel, but that wouldn't be the optimal placement because we would have to walk over the charging cable to get into the house. He considered another option that would have needed to route the copper wire up the attic and back down to the other side of the garage, but that proved to be too expensive. After receiving a bid of almost $5000 from another company to fix the inoperative circuits in two adjacent bedrooms, we called Johny at Grand Hawaii who came out promptly. He checked the circuit box and then each of the 6 outlets (the other guy looked at only 3) in the bedrooms. All were fine. Then, smart guy that he was, he checked the outlets in the living room which were on the other side of the main bedroom wall. We pulled back some furniture and he discovered that one outlet was blackened. While he was fixing it, he said that, hey, there is some water here. Ah ha, we thought! The cats chase each other around a table and back behind the book cases and TV. One evidently got excited and peed against the wall/outlet! Johny quickly changed the outlet, and behold, saved us almost $5000 and he charged less than $300 to solve the mystery and change the blown outlet. (We blocked access there and had a discussion with the 2 male cats who must have been the culprits.) read more
