I'd highly recommend anyone heading to Swanage to stay in this cute building. Located being the town hall, which is a gorgeous building itself, is a lovely lodge with a handful of neatly presented rooms. We stayed for a couple of nights and the hosts were extremely accommodating, even leaving their Friday night plans to come and meet us on our late arrival. The double room was a decent size, hand a huge comfy bed, a lovely tray of teas and coffees etc, and a neat, compact ensuite that looked brand new and squeaky clean and was full of lots of nice toiletries. The lodge is located on the high street, so very close to restaurants and the seashore. When we arrived late in the evening the host kindly informed us that most of the pubs had closed their kitchens but recommended a couple of nearby places that stay open later. We had a delicious meal in an Italian place he suggested we try - it was lovely. Breakfast was cooked and served in a gorgeous room. The options were great - full English, smoked salmon and eggs or kippers (whole or filler) and eggs. There was also a huge range of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and grains to make your own bespoke muesli as well as a variety of stewed fruits and yoghurts too. It was brilliant! Staying there for two nights meant we got to indulge in both the full English and fish breakfasts. To our delight, they also left a Kilner hat outside our room with freshly made cookies at mid morning too. It was such a nice touch! Everyone staying there was happy and the hosts made an effort to chat to us all and talk about different walks and places we could visit. They really went out of their way to make our stay brilliant. Definitely a rare gem in a crowded B&B market!

This place must be absolutely hopping in the summer! The pig is a restaurant and a hotel, on a beautiful piece of land on the water. I have included several pictures of the view. This is a true farm to table restaurant. We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch that included the 'piggy and fishies' tray, homemade warm bread, cauliflower soup and fish and pork chop mains. Absolutely fantastic meal with wine pairings. We then retired to the lounge for coffee and a bit of a rest before the journey home. A+! The ambiance is 'elegant countryside' and service was top notch. I absolutely must return here with my family in short order as they would love it. PS- may have picked up a bit of a Brit accent while here!!

So I am an expat now living and running and award winning small inn located in Woodstock Vermont so my standards and expectations are high, and this place delivered. So why not a 5 star....carry on reading. I had been notified by some UK clients of my inn that the Pig chain was a happening place, so on my UK November road trip I spent a night here and had lunch and dinner. The staff are all youthful, perhaps the UK ones are a little 'too home counties' but they all seem to know their jobs and carry out their daily tasks with efficiency. Many of the staff are the real deal from France, and great they were too. My room was comfy luxe, small but very comfortable with a good bathroom and deep bath. It was clean, fresh and the mini bar/tv etc all did the job. An old Roberts radio, now kitted out for digital was a nice touch. I overlooked the gardens and Studland Bay. However for 189 quid I did find the ADDITIONAL requested 15 quid for a full English or 10 quid for a continental breakfast a little picky, thus I ate none. It seemed to me to be exceptionally tight fisted...hence my 4 star rating. The lunch was to quote Michael Winner ...HISTORIC! I dined on crispy veal tail, deviled sprats, south coast hake with chorizo, a bottle of South African wine all served by a attractive and delightful young french waitress, and whilst I don't wish to appear sexist...I was in serious lust! However the condition was purely in my mind as I'm a middle aged fart who keeps these things to himself! A classic lunch of good ingredients prepared and cooked by a well organised kitchen....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! So for dinner I spent the evening in the bar people watching.....Thomas and George were a fine example of good bar staff, chatty in a cheeky sort of way and happy to serve. I was in luck it turned out, as usually they don't have any real ales on tap, but left over from a weekend shindig was a small barrel of excellent local bitter......I managed to make a 4 pint indent into it! I also ate a few bar snacks, saddleback crackling (3 portions it was that good!) Hock eggs (delicious version of a scotch egg) potted trout and crispy cuttlefish....again all 10/10. George told me he was off to Courchevel 1650in 2 weeks to do the winter as head barman in their hotel in the village, having worked over there last winter, and Thomas I hope has been promoted and filled his shoes in Studland as head bar person....he was more than capable. So all in all the place deserves its growing reputation and seemed to be totally full on a November wednesday evening, the restaurant was packed for lunch and dinner, SO DO PRE-BOOK. This fact was made all the more surprising as the Studland ferry was not operating as it was out of service for maintenance for 6 weeks....so folks from Poole/Bournemouth had to make an additional 20 mile round trip.

The rooms and the public areas have their best years behind them. Nevertheless, it seems relatively well maintained. In the double bed you lie on one mattress and share a large blanket. The ambient noise (from the other rooms and also from outside) is extremely loud. If you have a light sleep, you will probably sleep badly. The breakfast (service at the table, because Corona) was very good and the choice was large.

I had a small room with a comfortable bed, nicely appointed shower and rest of bathroom. I felt pretty confined - I am a largish person and the room wasn't big enough to swing a cat in. It was much too warm when I checked in. But that was easily remedied. Coffee, tea and biscuits of course in the room. Nice breakfast too. Traditional English done nicely. Dinner in the restaurant was nice. Nothing to write home about, but competently done. Chicken wasn't dry!!! I do like to go to the seaside places off-season. So much less crowded - and I get the sleepy atmosphere of my childhood down here in Dorset.

When I entered it was a cosy double room with an ensuite and supposedly when the sun is up you can see the ocean and beautiful cliffs! Unfortunately as soon as I entered there was a power cut for the whole street so I couldn't see a thing.... I headed back down to the reception where the lights were flickering - I wish it had been Halloween that would've been so awesome! The staff apologised profusely, though it wasn't there fault! and moved me to a room that had lamps that weren't reliant on electricity. Lucky me, the room was amazing! I was moved to the four poster bed room, which was huge, the bed was comfortable and there was so much space. I absolutely felt like I could've stepped back in time, which I loved! The WiFi wasn't particularly strong in the room and came and went sporadically but that was ok. There were a few giant flies buzzing around the room which I had a bit of a war with (we both lost) but they seemed to have disappeared by morning. The shower was great, and the bed was comfortable, I had the best sleep I've had in ages! The bar and restaurant both have great menus depending on what you're in the mood for - something a little more fancy or something more casual. I opted for the casual and I have the say the baked potato was awesome! The breakfast in the morning has a reasonably good selection though if you have allergies (eg. can't eat gluten or lactose) there isn't a whole lot of options except for the fruit. Though the cooked breakfast menu looked great as well. Again, the staff went out of their way to make my stay more comfortable. It's a really lovely hotel. Overall it was a really great stay and I'd happily stay again.

The place was empty when we visited and I was a little worried about the kind of food I was about to get. My eggs were yummy though - delicious poached eggs on perfectly pock-marked english muffins and some strong english tea. The place is steeped in old british history and seems like I stepped into someone's living room from the 1800's really. They are an inn too, so we some patrons come down for breakfast from their rooms during our visit too. I would love to come back!

This is a very characterful 15th Century Inn and the rooms are appropriately quirky. My single room…read morewasn't en-suite but did have a shower. I was very pleased to find the hotel has free wifi for guests and the real ale in the bar was very well kept. I had a nice starter and a butternut squash and goats cheese risotto in the restaurant and enjoyed the food very much. As this Inn is right in the middle of Corfe it is ideal for exploring the beautiful castle which is just outside the pub and rises over the garden of the inn.

We saw this nice looking pub in the tiny village and thought we'd give it a try. Was lovely inside, traditional pub like interior with plenty to look at inside. The food was exceptional, we both had Steak baguettes and they were amazing! Something so simple but the ingredients and the time spent to make the perfect lunch really showed! I can't wait for our next visit.

Staying at this delightful him as I write this review…read more Delighted that it is in the heart of town where you can sit outside, meet people and relax. Last night they had entertainment outside and the weather was delightful and we were able to experience the Bourne River Morris Men. It added so much charm to our visit. This is a 400-year-old structure that has been updated so you have all the amenities that you need. Each room has its own name. We stayed in the Fossil Forest.

As such, I have to say that our expectations weren't too high, but we were so hungry we were willing to give it a shot... and I'm so glad we did! The decor may not be that modern or flash, but the food and the service was great. It's a Friday, so the pub was probably a bit busier than ususal, but it had a nice friendly atmosphere and there were lots of board games to keep us entertained too. We both had the fish pie and rated it very highly. It was full of fish (not sure if local, but tasty nonetheless), and piled high with creamy, cheesy mash - perfect! If you are staying in Lulworth Cove, I recommend this place. It's slightly further afield (away from the Cove itself), about a 10 min walk along the main road, but definitely worth heading in that direction for. There's accomodation too, but can't comment on that as we didn't stay.
