Grand Kitchen and Bath: A MOST HORRIBLE Experience First, I have no ill will toward Grand Kitchen (GK), or Richard Valmain and Julia, the owners. Judging from the numerous positive reviews for GK, the odds are in your favor for a good outcome. What I believe was different in my situation was that unanticipated bad results occurred with my kitchen remodeling (defective quartz counters installed and improper installation of vinyl floor product leading to warping). Any job can have unexpected bad outcomes. But what I consider the worst part of this was Richard's behavior in response to these unfortunate events. If all goes well, you are fortunate and lucky. If GK makes a mistake, you will likely have to deal with what I consider and judge to be incredibly unprofessional treatment and lack of responsibility from Richard, (IMHO). I'm a 61yo M.D living in Tampa Bay for over 32yrs. This was the first major renovation project I've done. My project with GK involved renovating a 30-year-old kitchen in a Gulfport house: new cabinetry, new quartz countertops and replacing existing tile flooring with vinyl flooring. (My full-description was too long for total inclusion here, so I will just summarize) After 5 months complaining to GK re: the quartz countertops, they eventually realized that the quartz was defective. Out of frustration, I finally bought & installed a new counter on my own in March '20. 7M after vinyl floor installation, it started warping. Richard initially blamed me for not running my AC enough & possible exterior water exposure. It would take months & me hiring a Flooring Expert to determine that GK had installed it incorrectly (not enough expansion room as required by manufacture). My biggest complaint re: GK is that for both Flooring & Quartz problems, Richard persisted in blaming me for the problems for months and accepted no responsibility or blame, as I perceived it. As resolution has not occurred yet (now 8.9.20) re: my flooring, I'm writing this review, retaining an attorney and complaining to Pinellas and FLA State licensing boards, as well as Better Business Bureau and any online entities that I can post at. While it would be much more affordable for me to just replace my floor myself (which is what I'm doing now) & merely move on; I'm willing to spend a significant amount of time and money to make it difficult for Richard to repeat the quality, or lack of it, on anyone else's remodeling job. In a 2nd project begun Jan2020, Moore Creative Construction is doing a much bigger renovation. & they are delivering excellence! So here is the gist. If you hire GK and everything goes smoothly, there is a good chance you will be satisfied with the job. But I don't think it is just how good a Contractor is that is important... it is also, if things don't work out right, do they have your back, do they correct it quickly and graciously... or do they simply 'throw you under the bus' and leave it to you to find a solution? If you use GK and anything goes wrong, I believe you will get to experience firsthand what happens when a contractor denies culpability and puts the blame on YOU (... or their hired help). My own skewed perspective is that Richard may be someone who just doesn't think he's likely wrong. Perhaps he's convinced he's as smart and unfailing as he wants to believe he is? I'm relatively new to Online Reviews--if owners can write a rebuttal, I'm pretty confident that Richard would again blame me and deny his shortcomings. So: I would highly advise you to shop around and consider hiring someone else who might be more responsive, professional and responsible than i ever saw GK (specifically, Richard) being. If you are going to spend a chunk of money on something important (your house and yourself), you deserve to have someone at the helm, working to do both a great job and providing and STANDING BEHIND, a final product that you are 100% pleased with. I constantly hear and see this new company (MCC) working to keep me happy and striving for my total satisfaction. I don't recall ever sensing or experiencing that from Richard. ADDENDUM: As I pursue more and more avenues and venues to share my disdain for how I believe I was treated by Richard, I noted that the General Contractor's license that I found online for this business [CGC1521771] is registered to a main address at 1401 S. OCEAN BLVD POMPANO BEACH, FL 33062. This is all public information. I never never looked into it before, nor am I suggesting anything nefarious about it, but before hiring GK, you might want to find out who the 'boss' really is of this DBA(DoingBusinessAs) entity. My complaints to Florida & Pinellas County licensing boards were not accepted because 'floor installation' is not a specific Certification Standard under licensure requirements for General Contractors. ~Stuart read more

My wife and I went to two other showrooms in St . Pete and by far, Grand Kitchen + Bath was our choice. We did a complete kitchen remodel and had a great experience. The best part of this entire project was not only the constant communication but not being attacked by change orders. The contract amount that we signed never changed through out our entire project. We had our master bathroom remodeled last year and the contractor that we used gave us a good price, but it was change order after change order the first week we started our project. This didn't happen here. The other point I want to make is that I received a weekly calendar on what I could expect to be done and by whom. Grand Kitchen + Bath is a great company; I have nothing but respect for Richard and his team. Richard was the first contractor that actually mentioned that I was in FEMA territory and that there would be restrictions. The other contractors obviously didn't do their homework and I'm glad that I decided to walk into GKB showroom. If you want to work with a contractor/team who knows what they are doing, Go to this company! GKB will be designing our outdoor kitchen in the fall. Thank you for an awesome kitchen. I read the reviews below and decided to visit the showroom anyway. I met with Richard about my condo downtown St. Pete and wanting the entire condo renovated. My condo is about 1500 sq. ft. and I wanted to have everything new; from floor to ceiling. Richard gave me a ballpark and I went home and thought about it. I live up North and was concerned about the distance in regards to communication and being able to pick out items, etc. I AM GLAD I DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS. I now have a beautiful living space, one that I have been visualizing for the past year. Grand Kitchen + Bath process was explained and followed through the entire project until completion. The communication through out this entire project was never a problem. I received a calendar at the beginning of the project, what to expect to be completed each week AND Richard's team was always ahead of schedule. Being in New York, picking out materials was never an issue. I now have a beautiful living space and I am ecstatic. On budget and on time! I enjoyed working with Richard on our project; Phase 1. I am grateful for his expertise not only in construction, but also dealing with FEMA. I interviewed two other contractors and not one mentioned FEMA. Not only did the other two not mention FEMA, but I did not realize the requirements and restrictions I found out. Richard stated that I would have to complete my project in two phases. The other two contractors said that my project could be done in one phase. That really was upsetting; I could just imagine all the additional costs that would have occurred. I'm so glad my wife and I decided to go with Grand Kitchen + Bath. After signing the contract, we didn't receive any change orders and our project was completed on time. The one process I liked the most working with Richard, was the weekly calendar that I received, stating what was being done when and the constant communication. My wife enjoyed working with Julie, picking out the selections and absolutely loves our new kitchen and baths. Recently visited their showroom with a friend who purchased a new home that needed a complete kitchen remodel in addition to a bath and laundry area that were very dated and need upgrades. She worked with Tammy and Julie who were extremely knowledgable in guiding her through cabinet and countertop styles and options that were in her budget and exactly the look she's wanting to create in her new home! They even had great tips and recommendations based on their experience of working with similar style homes in her neighborhood on things to consider and even avoid! My husband and I just finished our master bathroom remodel with Grand Kitchen + Bath and it's beautiful! Working with Julie was a blessing! She helped me with all my selections and design.
