My grandson cried every time we brought him to that place, and we finally had to pull him from that school because, after 8 months, nothing was done and I was a witness to the same boy taking his closed fist and hitting another child in the face RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I actually should have filed a police report at the time because the school was knowingly allowing these incidences to occur in their classrooms with no repercussions. By the way, I called the Regional Director of The Learning Experience and she assured me that the owner of that location would be calling me to discuss this. Myself and a lot of my friends here were deciding between Hope and the University of Michigan and we are all beyond happy that we made the decision to come here! I have a disability and the Disability and Accessibility resources center does So much for me, along with all of the professors being so kind and caring and going above and beyond to help me through my medical struggle. I am also a part of Greek Life here on campus and it is incredible to be able to have such a tight knit group of friends that are always supporting me and helping me. We have bible studies and we study for our classes all together. Being in Greek life here also strongly encourages excellent academic performance and so many community service opportunities! The average GPA at Hope College is a little bit above a 3.3 and it is in no small part due to the incredible care and time our professors and school put into our education. Free tutoring is available for all students along with a lot of 1 on 1 opportunities to get help from professors! The research opportunities are great here as well, with students being allowed to begin research as soon as freshman year! I feel safe at Hope College, mentally and physically, and it is an incredible first step out into the real world.

Loved the beautiful campus and smaller size student body, loved the many social activities, (sororities and fraternities), loved the professors for the most part, and LOVED the many opportunities for Christian growth. We loved our dorms BACK THEN in the 1990's in Dykstra and Kollen. We're hearing about mold in the dorms now. Uh, you need to work on the up-keep people. Hope always likes "looking good" on the outside with beautiful landscaping, and new buildings, etc.but not as much for student living (behind the scenes). My Dad was a major contributor in helping for these things to happen. One major negative is the basketball team's lack of community. My husband played basketball and VanWieren never bothered to have relationships with the guys who did not live and breathe basketball. He was also in Chapel Choir, and that did not go over very well! Very little team bonding took place off the court. Opportunities for this did not happen. He lived with 2 other players but knew virtually nothing about the others. My husband put 4 very hard working and rewarding years into the team with me along for the ride as his girlfriend! Fun! Didn't seem to count for much. Here's the scary part...... The 3 coaches came to our wedding, left very quickly thereafter, didn't stay for the reception and are you ready for this? They gave us a gift of 29 cent baskets. Horrifying I know. The youngest coach of all never even had conversations with us when we'd see him at Christ Memorial, etc. Well, that's our take. We still enjoyed our years there, despite all of the "team stuff", and have never regretted going there. GO HOPE.

Even with the youngest children, the teachers were always willing to help in anyway possible and giving tips and tricks to help get my kids to eat better and sleep better. I love that they teach sign language but also encourage my toddler to use her words. My three year old loves going there so much and talks about his teachers as his friends. He knows they care about him and that is very important to us. We get daily feedback on both of our children when we pick up our kids. It's so nice to hear a positive thing everyday, even if it is just a small thing like "He really loved singing today". The environment in the building is very welcoming. Teachers in other rooms smile and say hi to my kids even if they aren't in their rooms during the day. We recommend ACLC to friends all the time!

The amount of money parents pay to have their children taken care of isn't at all equal to the quality of how the care is towards to the children. Its extremely low staff and the staff that is there is so unhappy. They are all over worked and exhausted. It's kind of insane how different things appear when a parent is coming or person that works from the corporate office! They will literally call the classrooms of whomever is expecting a parent or person from corporate to warn them and send over other teachers just in case they need help to get back in to order. Negligence towards the children's needs is seen here a lot and different forms of abuse. As a parent: A teacher had told me that my child was put out side a few days prior without gloves or anything and cried the whole time because she was so cold. ( the main teacher never once told me this even when I asked them how her day was going one hour after) Even though I was there at work the teachers said they couldn't let me know because they were already outside. Which one is a lie, and two I'm not sure if this is because of the uneducated of the teachers but honestly it wouldn't take a very highly educated person to find more than one solution to this problem. They acted like it wasn't a big deal. I then realized they always put kids outside and if they don't have proper attire or make sure to put their attire on "sometimes they can't look at all the kids" - what I was told. They say it's not that big of a deal.. um it IS! These are little babies and children. It's unacceptable to have a daycare that their ONLY job is to take care of children and they literally lack in that.. and other kids in other classrooms that I had been with the other teachers would reinforce that and say oh it's fine they can go outside- no it's 32 outside.. they NEED proper attire.. Another thing is from working here I realized if the kids don't have proper sleeping sheets and blankets the kids will be put just in the cot and expected to sleep comfortably and has to sit there and be quiet for the two hours or more... now how would that be comfortable? Or even makes sense. As a teacher: The rules here for the kids I almost laughed when I first heard them because it's so asinine. One rule about when the kids are eating ( the parents are paying for food it's built into the extreme high amount of money it costs to go here) a child can only get about a quarter of a cup of milk, and if the kid spills it at all on accident they can't get anymore because they want to teach them about how milk is expensive. And somehow Appletree that literally brings in over a million dollars can't afford more than a gallon of milk a month.. Yes maybe they kind of seems like someone is trying to teach a good point, but these are little babies! They all spill stuff all of the time and then you're going to hurt their little egos by saying "no I don't care if you accidentally spilled your milk you get no more... " like What?? it's SO sad.. I spill things some times I don't expect someone to say to me oh well you aren't allowed to drink that ever again. Oh but if a directors child or a parent who works at corporate child does it they are allowed as much as they want, as the same for food too, If those kids get hungry they can have more snacks but any other kid - nope! Not allowed at all just have to tell them sorry no YOU can't get any... Little kids are human too and they are not treated nicely at all there. Another thing I learned is the teachers talk about the kids, yes that's expected but they talk SO bad about some... like this kid is ugly. This one is evil. This kid I can't stand. I hate this kid. This one will have this disorder when they are older.. and they say it in FRONT of the kids . That is emotional abuse.. First off- Uneducated teachers who have little experience and schooling. The teachers would be very unhappy from feeling like staff didn't care about them and how they are very VERY underpaid. Most teachers seemed to be here because they didn't know where else to work, which is kind of mind blowing and highlights the fact of uneducated..from working here you don't need experience, nor do you need to be educated at all. And everyone is payed minimum wage.. Very unacceptable to how they handle kids behind closed doors. The staff seems very friendly too but unfortunately they all dislike one another and the directors. All they do is gossip about one another and complain about everything. Also, another thing that was shocking is that they do not have a proper cleaning company, like say at a school that has a janitor or custodial person. The teachers are responsible to clean all of the classrooms at the end of the night and mop the floors with old mops that have to be at least 10 years old and old vacuums that are about the same.

We are greeted each day with warm smiles from ALL of the staff, who truly make us feel welcome, and that our daughter is genuinely cared for. She is excited to go to "school" each day, loves her teachers and friends there, and she's learned SO much! At almost 2.5 years old, she has quite the vocabulary (favorite saying of the moment: "It's aMAzing!"), knows most of her shapes and colors, can recite her abc's, and count past 10, and comes home every day, having learned something new. The center itself is beautiful, very clean and organized, with a wide variety of age-appropriate toys and a super fun playground, split into two sections for the younger and older kids. The administrative staff are very friendly, quickly respond to any questions or needs we have, and do a great job keeping the parents up to date on the various happenings at the center.

Today was my first experience at this school, and unfortunately it was not a good one. I arrived…read morefor a manicure and pedicure with gel polish, but the front desk staff told me they could only do a "dry" application and could not soak my nails beforehand. I explained that I've had gel manicures and pedicures done for years at both salons and schools with full soaking included, but told them I was still willing to proceed. Instead of simply scheduling the service, an instructor was brought over who immediately seemed defensive and confrontational. She insisted that soaking nails before gel polish was not allowed in Michigan and gave questionable explanations about bacteria. She then refused to do my pedicure because I was wearing an aircast for a sprained ankle, despite the fact that it could easily be removed and I had no mobility issues. As a registered nurse, I understand my own limitations. The interaction became increasingly uncomfortable, so I chose to leave. I then went to The Salon Professional Academy, where I was treated professionally and respectfully. They provided a full manicure and pedicure, soaked my nails as part of the service, and completed everything without confrontation or unnecessary drama.

The work starts out easier but slowly gets more challenging. Much better than me trying to teach her and getting into arguments. Definitely worth the investment.
