This was by far the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Not only was the room dirty, smelly, and poorly maintained, but the staff was unbelievably rude. I was verbally abused by an employee Neil, and even threatened to be physically removed from the lobby just for voicing my concerns. That is completely unacceptable for any business, let alone a hotel where guests are supposed to feel safe and welcomed. The Wi-Fi didn't work, hot water was inconsistent, and noise made it impossible to sleep. This place is a nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Stay away. read more

I occasionally have to fly to Anchorage or Wasilla for doctors appointments being that I live on the island of Kodiak. As you can imagine, flying to Anchorage, every few months or so, can get expensive when you have to have a hotel room and a car. One of the ways I tried to lessen the impact of the travel, is getting a package deal with a car hotel and flight. Usually I get a good deal and the hotel is nice and the car is fine, however this time the hotel was not OK. I got to the hotel and was charged early check in fee of $40, which was OK with me because I was going to take a shower and get ready for doctors appointment. However upon checking in, going up to the room, I found it was dirty and very rundown. But the worst part was they didn't even provide a real bed! Just a queen sized mattress on a camping cot frame!! I never got my deposit back it's been since 14 January and I was right by the front desk lady that I would get it back the next morning and that turned into 72 hours and then when I called after 72 hours they said 7-10 days then the last Time I called they said it could be up to 30 days. I've been waiting and still nothing I think they just want to keep it and are sure that people will forget about it or something but I still haven't seen my deposit. read more

Staff is neither helpful nor hospitable. Asked how long washer & dryer run for. They looked at each other and shrugged before one chimed in "maybe 30 or 45 minutes?" Thanks. Very helpful. Asked for hangers, but they made a big deal out of it. Eventually gave me 5. Refused to change room from on the highway. Told them my AC/heater isn't working. They said they would send someone to my room to kick it, since it has to be hit just the right way. Thanks Janine! The rooms themselves are fine. Everything is basic. No amenities or special touches. I made a joke about what the gym must look like before going to it. It just happened to not be a joke after all. 1 treadmill, 1 bike, and some free weights all in a tiny, depressing little box. Also your room key won't work to get into the gym, you have to ask for a key at the front desk. Every day. Because it deactivates everyday. read more

First off we checked in and after running my credit card the desk clerk stated they charged an extra $200 for a security deposit on top of the $89.95 nightly rate. Our room is filthy and literally has what looks like boogers wiped on the wall and ceiling. Not to mention the load music that is right below all the rooms in the bar. There are way better places to stay then this dump. Never again will I stay here or recommend. They can't even have coffee in the coffee maker ready in the morning. read more

This review is from folks that live in the Mat-Su Valley. We have driven by the Grand View Inn hundreds, if not thousands, of times and never had a reason to stay, until recently. We stayed here for over a week while the insurance company figured out how long we would be displaced after a frozen pipe flooded our home. It was 9 nights too long for a 9-night stay. There are multiple signs stating "COVID safe practices", which NO ONE follows. There is a request to wear masks right at the front desk, yet nearly no one wears one. The staff who do have a mask wear it around their chins (mostly housekeeping); only one front desk member wore a mask part of the time. Our "Grand" view was of the Parks Highway and Dodge dealership across the way, the only saving grace in that the blackout curtains worked well. When it was windy, as it frequently is in the Valley, the heating unit control flap on the exterior would bang around constantly. We heard the traffic all night as well, even over the noisy heating unit. One morning, the toilet plugged, and the front staff member told me that I would have to wait a few hours for housekeeping to show up in order to get one. It was not until I said that I had someplace to go within the next hour and my wife still had to get ready that the staff member went downstairs and obtained one. When it came to getting fresh towels, we called the front desk to have some brought up to our room but were informed that you must bring down your towels, throw them into a bin near the front desk and collect new ones from the staff. Same goes for the sheets; I cannot comment on the comforter or thicker blanket as we didn't try to change that. When it comes to cleaning, your room only gets cleaned upon checkout. There were stains on the bottom mattress sheets that looked old. Do not expect that the staff took the proper precautions of wearing masks and gloves while cleaning, so bring wipes and do some cleaning yourself upon check in (better yet, check in somewhere else). When I requested a vacuum so I could at least clean up the sand from the floor, I was told that they could not provide one and the room would be cleaned when we checked out. How does that help us? Oh, it doesn't. How can they possibly operate a clean hotel with that attitude? Gross. When we learned that they would not even provide cleaning supplies for us to do their job, we checked out immediately. Fortunately, we found another place to stay that night. There is a laundry room in each building. The "Inn" side has three washers and driers, and I presume the "Suites" side is similar. It is $2 per machine that run about 35 minutes wash and 40 minutes dry. If the door is closed, you will need to get the access code from the front desk. Even though there are set hours for operation, the room was typically closed every time I went down. The main cleaning area door is right next to the laundry room. On the door, there is a sign to keep the padlock closed so it doesn't get stolen. Apparently, it must have happened a few times to warrant the sign. The noise hours are not enforced at all, and you will likely be get a meth head (or two) that likes to start cranking the tunes to ear shattering volumes around midnight until nearly 0500 somewhere nearby. When you call the front desk, they claim that they will "try" to find the source but expect to continue to hear the noise for a few hours while they search. I cannot give a complete review on the "Grill" downstairs other than the only staff member I noted wearing a mask for COVID precautions was the room service delivery member. Between the lack of concern for adequate COVID precautions and the nonexistent cleaning schedule, the name should be changed to the "Grand Spew'n". We highly recommend you find another location to stay while in the Mat-Su Valley unless you are truly desperate. It is unfortunate that we had to give a local business such a poor review, but we do not want others to have a similar terrible experience to ours. We hope this business cleans up its act, both literally and figuratively. read more

I rented one of the extended stay rooms. My room was dirty, but the furnishings were decent. PROS -kitchenette with granite countertops -separate bedroom and living room -coin operated laundry in basement of neighboring building CONS -room was still dirty from previous guest and sheets were not changed. I found hairs in the bed and in the bathroom. -they only service your room about once a week -you have to go to the lobby to get new bedding and fresh towels -you have to buy soap to wash the dishes -no wifi in rooms (and lobby wifi is broken) -sheets, floor, couch, and bar stools on my room had stains after being serviced (food, bodily fluids) -no clothes hangars -some highway and neighboring veterinarian noise -no laundry bags Tip to manager- get wifi! It's not that expensive to get a powerful router and it will increase the guest experience ten-fold! Especially for those traveling for work. Internet is a must have these days. read more

I would give this dump a zero if I could. Manger was a joke the deposit is a joke. They had no idea when you would get it back. Room was okay but not worth the money or the headache. Landry room sucks; the machines barely work. The fitness room just puts the cherry on top of how much of a dump this place is. Prices for their so called restaurant are rediculous. Is there people living up stairs?? Why does management have little NOTES everywhere on the walls; down the halls, elevator, exits, your personal bathroom. I could go on and on about this place. We had driven up from Homer yesterday without reservations, not knowing how far we would go. Stopped at this hotel and were lucky enough to get a room. The desk clerk, Susan, was very kind & busy, but was able to check us in. She recommended their restaurant for dinner, which was excellent. Great food & bar. She also gave us breakfast suggestions. $210 rooms, you have to go down to the lobby to get towels and the restaurant was not able to feed my family even though the front desk person said they were open till 11pm that night. Things were surprisingly quiet despite the multiple hockey teams staying. The bar/grill downstairs and the restaurant next door were convenient. Nice to have the little store with snacks/beverages in the hotel. No wifi in my room! Had to go down to the lobby for wifi (or else I would have given 3 stars). Bed was OK, but could have been more comfortable. Nice to have the couch in the room. Definitely adequate, would have been good with better wifi. read more

Overcharged me by $200 for a one night stay. When called to have the charge explained they stated it was a security deposit and they always take $200 and that I'd maybe see it debited back to my account in a week. No where on my room agreement, posted in the lobby or on my receipt was an explanation of a security fee. I had to call my bank to contest the charge, my bank refunded the money and is now investigating the charge by this hotel. Besides that, the woman I assume was the hotel manager was less than friendly, and you can hear everything through paper thin walls and the inch gap under the door (which also lets in the hall lights). read more

What the heck people !! Do you have a maintenance person or housekeeping. THESE rooms are filthy. AND the shower curtain sticks to you so you have to hang it outside the tub and get water all over the floor. Buy the hoop rods that ALL hotels use. Crap on the shower curtain is GROSS. Wash them. Stayed here for over a week several months ago...what a mistake! ZERO housekeeping services. They claim it was for Covid precautions - what a joke! Nothing was clean there...not even the shared walkways or stairs, not the elevator, etc. Front desk staff sat around playing on their phones. To get clean towels or bedding you had to bring your old stuff down and they would "trade" it out for a supposedly clean set, and then you had to go make the bed. They also expected guests to take all their own trash down to the dumpster, which was no where near anyone's room or the main parking lot. Are you kidding me? We don't mind helping out, but its a hotel charging full cost! I think they least they could have done was pick up the trash and do the basic cleaning every couple days. When asked if the cost would be reduced, since they obviously weren't paying hotel staff to clean the rooms or anything else, they said no. We also had to listen to the loose vent cover outside the room squeaking and shrieking when it was windy. Front desk staff was notified and said they couldn't do anything. My rating for the Grandview is a F-. Not only did they make me leave (since I'm not 21) even though I had both my parents with me. My moms stayed, but they closed the kitchen, then they added insult to injury saying you can't bring outside food in, even if the kitchen is closed. read more

They are not friendly at the front desk. My friends had a wedding reception below and the military groom and his wife wanted to book a room. No discount, no special accommodations just the rudeness of "you don't matter and it doesn't matter that you just completed your wedding reception there". In addition, they ask for a 200$ room deposit, not a credit card on file, and treat you like your dirt signing waivers not to dye your hair! Let me tell you they should have a filter, as this young couple in gown and military uniform, did not drink a sip of alcohol and were sheer exhausted looking beautiful and refined. The Receptionist required the mother-of-the-bride to come to the front desk, as the groom had a male name, despite the deposit being made. As tasteless as they come! read more

The Restaurant and Bar have had service and food issues for MANY years. Both are extremely slow and I watched several groups get up and leave because lack of service, I would have as well but after 20 minutes and very few people there, we finally got our drinks. We stayed 3 days and had hot water 1 day. The window sills are dirty, the "Restaurant" next door is owned by the same shady character that owns the hotel, he is in trouble with the state of Alaska for contracting without a license and cuts corners everywhere thus the lack of staffing in the Bar and restaraunt. I only stayed there because my favorite hotel in weasel was booked for the weekend. Another thing to be aware of is that in Wasilla everything is taxed...hotel room, bed, food, ETC. If you have the opportunity, stay in Anchorage where there is NO tax. ONLY STAY HERE IN AN EMERGENCY AND UNTIL YOU CAN FIND SOMETHING BETTER! read more

Stayed here recently after a disaster night at the Best Western Lake Lucille hotel. This place has a good restaurant down stairs, a good bed, decent bedding and seemed safe and secure. Since I travel a lot on business I need to feel good about where I stay. This is definitely the best place in the Mat-Su Valley - you don't have a lot of choices, but take my word - this is a good one. read more

As the first point of contact at a hotel, the Front Desk personnel should be congenial and welcoming. That's definitely NOT the case here. We had an American Legion Convention nearby this past weekend with dignitaries from all over the country (Florida, Minnesota, Indiana and New York) in attendance. The dignitaries were put up at the Grand View but the customer service there was horrendous. I will never frequent this hotel, nor recommend it ever! The rooms are not cleaned each day (unless you request it) but the out-of-state visitors were not informed of this upon check-in. When they called down to inquire as to when housekeeping would be by, they were told they wouldn't be getting their room cleaned as they didn't request it. So when asked if clean towels could be provided, the front desk person answered that the guests would have to come down and get them themselves. When the visitors went down there to get towels and request their room to be cleaned, the answer was, "What do you want me to do about it?" Nice, huh? How embarassing! read more

For some reason I thought I read that this place was near or on a lake which of course it wasn't. We got to the Inn and hour before check-in and they wanted - wait for this - $80.00 to check in one hour early. Then I said, "we'll just go to the grill" - it isn't open until 4. So off we go to Localz which is a fabulous place to go and enjoy some craft beers. Back to the Inn and now all of a sudden the new desk clerk tells me it isn't open on Sunday. So, why didn't the guy tell me that when I got there originally. At this point there is no walking due to the use of walkers so we call and order pizza. I have never been told there would be a charge to check-in early and I have stayed at some upscale hotels and motels. Sure, charge me for a late check-out but an hour early. First impression when walking through the door is that the staff is very stuck up and snobby. Be ware when checking in there is a 200$ deposit. There rooms are very out dated, they have like 13 inch tvs and a not so senic view. After being there for two days I had an emergency that took all day for me to return to the hotel. I had not paid but was in constant contact with the hotel that I would be returning and wished to extend my stay. I requested housekeeping not enter my room while I am not there. When I returned to the hotel in the early evening I was told they were not extending my stay and the attendent at the desk pointed around the corner and said your stuff is over there. My belongings had been put in big black trash bags and stacked on a luggage cart. After checking into the only other hotel here in Wasilla witch has a better view by far and is the same $$ and the staff is kind and friendly, professional and efficient. The hotel its self is cozyer and has a nice big flat screen tv and a view to die for. After checking in there I went through my belongings to find im missing ALLOT of my stuff, clothes shoes a coat. I am now in the process of taking legal action to get my stuff back or to be compensated. The staff had no right to touch, remove, pack or help themselves to my stuff. read more

We took the review of the previous writer and stayed at the Grand View. It was the worst evening we have ever spent at a hotel. We were given room 125, we had a child staying with us. At 11PM ish the "oh gawd George, harder, faster, etc" started. It was loud and pornographic. We called the front desk to no avail. At 12:30, we were moved. The room we were moved to was clean and loud, it was above the bar below and we heard loud music until 2ish, puncuated by the two drunk women arguing over who was less skandy at the bar. Finally, sleep, alas, we were woken up by a man screaming at a woman and it sounded like it was getting physical. This went on until almost 3:00. We finally threatened to call the police if the front desk did not get involved. Also, the water rushing through the pipes is so loud everytime someone upstairs flushes, the door to the restroom must remain closed. . It also bears mentioning that what sounded and looked to be drunken teenagers on some sort of formal outing were roaming the halls and yelling at each other. This was an awful evening. I would recommend staying in a tent before spending your money here. This room cost $100, for that price, we shouldn't have front row seats to a freak show. read more
