What is worst than being sick? Getting a cold while you are traveling. Jet lag, can't sleep with the time difference, the cold weather and sightseeing in the rain does take a toll on the body. Runny nose, congested and not feeling the best shouldn't drag down a vacation. What to do? Go to the nearest pharmacy.
Pharmacies in Paris are small, about 3/4 the size of of an average Gamestop store in the US. They sell mostly medicine. You will not see any makeup, food, beverages, small article of clothing(gloves, socks) or toys like you would in your typical Walgreens or CVS. Medicine is their main focus and mine is for me to get better.
I had cold that was getting progressive worse during the middle of our trip. I already went to a couple of pharmacy. Their pricing was either too expensive or my explanation of what I want in French is very bad.
I came across this pharmacy since it on our way back to the hotel from the Brochant Metro. It was clean and the shelves were well organized. I entered and was immediately greeted by a young man with a "Bon jour".
I approached the counter and requested for Vicks in French. He responded in English(Merci!). I explained my symptoms and he recommended the Humex. He explained "Rhume"(pronounced "room") means cold and to take the white pills during the day and the blue pill at night. He was kind, very pleasant and thoughtful in explaining how to take the pills.
I proceed to take the white pills during the day. I did not feel any improvement. I began to worry if my cold would spoil my vacation and these are some weak medicine. I took the blue pill at night. I was able to sleep and the congestion was greatly reduced the next day. My cold is 75% better in 24 hours! Normally, my colds would last at least 1 week or more and would progress to antibiotics but this medicine worked.
Thank for the very much for the excellent friendly service, explanation, and getting me better so I can resume my vacation. read more
