I recently spent 5 hrs at this library while my car was being repaired. It is a VERY old building and contains a musty smell. After about 3 hours I began to have an asthmatic reaction breathing in the air. All the paint jobs cannot cover up what's underneath that paint! I really think the building needs to be inspected. I will give the staff high praise for their helpfulness. But for the sake of my health I will stay away from this building. read more

Very nice library! The youth and YA sections are interestingly divided here, with a youth services area in its own section, featuring computers, DVDs, books, activities, murals, and small exhibits. It also has a conveniently located family restroom. 4th through 12th has their own section, called "The Basement," which is reserved for them from 3-6 pm. Fortunately, we arrived before then so we could peek in without disturbing them. It looks like a nice space. Staff was friendly and helpful. The lot is smaller and one way, but there is also nearby street parking available. read more

The Grandview Heights Public Library is like the much older, and smaller version of some of the other libraries in the Columbus area. This is not at all surprising, since some version of this library originally opened in 1924. As such, the facilities are a bit outdated. They have plenty of tables and chairs spread throughout, with one large room designed the 'quiet area', however it remains open to the rest of the library so the noise level is just dependent on what's going on that day. The wooden chairs also become quite uncomfortable after about 30 minutes. They don't have any private work rooms to reserve, but they do have some first come, first serve, semi-private tables sectioned off by plastic dividers. On the ground level, there are two meeting rooms for larger groups, but I'm not sure if these can be reserved on the website versus in person. They also have two vending machines on the ground level. Although the facilities could use an upgrade, the staff is very friendly and parking is rather easy via a designated lot, or surrounding street parking in the neighborhoods nearby. This is the place I find myself visiting due to location since I live nearby, rather than for its amenities. read more

I was here for a meeting in a community room. As I walked through the library, it was spacious despite a smaller building and the help desk were staffed. I felt very safe here. During our meeting, a yarn group, one of the librarians popped in just to say hi and admire some of the projects. read more

Staff poor/no customer service. Called and finally reached Reference desk. Lady nice, said she would search special directory and left phone, waited, then lazy abrasive "woe is me" male picks up, tells me they are short staffed and orders me to "just go on internet." This unprofessional "non-service"is shoddy, disorganized, disconnected, and imbibed with poor listening skills. Don't waste your time, because GPHL reference will. I love this library so much. Everyone is friendly, it's quiet, and clean. Because it's on the smaller side, they may not have the hugest selection on the shelves, but they are part of the greater Columbus Public library system, you can request items easily and choose GHPL as your pickup. The holds section is easily found! The youth section is wonderful, too. Bright, safe, and well-organized. Plenty of fun activities, too! This is a nice suburban library. Thanks to a partnership with other libraries in Ohio and the Columbus Metropolitan area, if what you're looking for is not a holding here, chances are you might be able to find it through an inter library loan. Ask a librarian for more information on how to perform a search and make a request - it's super simple. Grandview Heights Public Library has a nice amount of electronic material to access, including audio books, movies, and music. Check the photos here for a look. One of my favorite things about this facility is that they have meeting rooms to use for civic & club activities - just check with staff on how to sign up. Among other great offerings are special music programs on the lawn and in the atrium throughout the year. The parking lot is a bit small and hosts a drive thru pickup booth which takes up some spaces. But, you'll find parking on the street as well so parking shouldn't be a big problem. read more

Nice little local library. I used to come here years ago; today we were nearby and needed a place for Baby K to play. They have a big kids' area downstairs, with tons of books, some computers, and quite a few play areas. She loved it, and did not want to leave. Sadly, I didn't get to explore the rest of the building, but I remember liking it before. Glad they are doing well; it was pretty busy at 4pm on a weekday. Staff were helpful. Plenty of parking (be sure to turn in west of the library, since the lot is one-way.) Open and bright inside. read more

Great library! Staff is super friendly, always greets you. People are kinda loud sometimes though, talking on the phone where people are studying or just talking loudly in general. Maybe some signage would do to keep voices down. Lots of places to sit, but not enough power outlets, you have to get there early to get a seat with a power outlet. Otherwise, a great place to study. I used to live over on this side of town and frequented the GHPL - often times to get CDs and VHS movies - yes a LONG time ago. Now I occasionally stop in when I need a place to work from. I do have a current library card as you can never have too many of those. I always have digital material on loan from numerous libraries. Parking has never been a problem - either in the lot or on the street. I was able to find a nice spot to plug in and have a comfortable seat and table. The wifi was good - VERy important. And it was quiet yet accommodating a phone call I took. As far as resources, the GHPL is very good I get their newsletter and am impressed with the quality and quantity of their programming. They also have some unique offerings like a seed bank and access to GALE - this online learning platform that is live - but not like a MOOC or anything. I took one course and enjoyed it. They drop new materials a couple times a week and there is an interactive element to it. I highly recommend it as having it live gives me a motivation that is not there when it's a static course - I never seem to get around to finishing it. I'm sure I'll be back - it's just a matter of when. read more

I LOVE this library! In the past, I have patronized the Grandview Library for it's fabulous selection of offbeat movies and music, but have recently developed a new found appreciation for some of their services... YES- the library's layout is user-friendly. YES- its holdings are extensive. YES- there's wi-fi. YES - the staff is super-duper friendly and approachable. But there's more.... In my ongoing plight to find quiet spaces in which to hunker down and write, I discovered their four glorious "Meeting Rooms." The sound-proofed cubicles are free to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis and can accomodate four people (cozily!) with outlets, wi-fi, dry erase boards, and enough space to spread out and take care of business. I hate to give my secret away, but I'd be doing a disservice to those of you who really want to get some work done! Next, the Grandview Library was one of the few places that maintained electricity during a massive power outage last month. The library was wonderfully accomodating in allowing people to charge their electronic devices. Patrons were camped out all over the library, charding cell phones and computers and iPods... I even monopolized four outlets at once! Finally, I have always been aware of the library's youth/ adult programming, but experienced it first hand this past year. Interesting speakers, movies, educational lectures and art classes are on the calender. Summertime brings a free music series held outside on the lawn on certain weeknights. It attracts quite the draw... These special extras along with the laid back staff and clientele gives the Grandview Library a unqiue, appealing vibe. I'm a huge fan! read more

This library's design is unique to others I have seen, in that its interior is kind of space age modern. It feels like you are walking into a small multi-officed medical building or a very miniture mall. From front door to back runs a atrium the length of the building as angular ramps to the sides connect upper rooms. The rooms act like seperate stores in this mall, divided by media, and reference, all the typical library functions are here. Downstairs is the area for children. Working space on the walk-in is limited. There is ample seating in the atrium but the echoey noise of patrons entering--and host of children which seem to hang out here after school-- renders it undesirable. On the scond floor are public computers but little seating for wi-fi users. There are a scatter of seats in the room front of the computers, but they are among bookcases and displays which makes it a bit awkward to study, ect.They do rent rooms to use, which are behind space age shape glass in front of some seating which makes one feel like an exhibitions in a zoo. Smaller, though with ample resources, it seems very clean and organized. The wild design is a nice change. Parking in the back: enter at Ashland Ave, exit off Oakland FYI. read more

Great local library. Plenty of books, DVD's, CD's and more. They are a very nice bunch of people, knowledgeable and helpful. I've checked out so many books, CDs, and DVDs over they years. They have some really great selections to choose from. Any library that carries Foyle's War is tops in my book. They also have a very nice selection of great movies, new, old and foreign. Not a huge library but what it is, is focused on quality. Free use of about 16 computers if you need it Downstairs has a kids section which is nice for families Meeting Rooms are also downstairs. Summer has the Music on the Lawn - free concerts for anyone who wants to come and listen. TIP: They take donations. If you have any old books, CDs, DVDs. You can drop them off at the Check Out Desk. Being a former, dedicated, patron of the library, I will say I am taking my business elsewhere. The new remodel is just grabgae. Having arthritis of the hip and lower lumbar and having to crawl on the floor just to read titles for anything is a crock. Bad design for for people with such issues and bad eyesight. read more

Being a Grandview Heights resident, it's good to have a library so close by. Frequently I would bike there but since it's gotten cold I have also gotten lazier, so I drive. I have to say, I love how active this library is and how well informed it keeps its memebers. From the moment you walk in, there are ads all over for events happening at this library. If that's not enough, there are hordes of booklets all over the place that tell you everything you could possibly want to know about the library. As I said, it is an active library. It has every kind of event from informational sessions on Ebay tips to wine tasting to musical and dramatic performaces to garden parties to arts and crafts. This library also has an extensive collection of books, music and dvds. It is not a small library. And if for some reason you can't find what you'e looking for there, chances are you can find it and request to have it sent from one of its sister libraries. One of the information booklets that can be found all over the library is a constantly updated list of recommended books for all genres. So if you don't have anything in mind, pick up a booklet. The layout and atmosphere of the library is quite pleasant. When you enter, you are in the atrium which is wide open and the ceiling is completely windows, allowing plenty of light making it bright and cheery. Plants are placed all about adding to the cheerfulness. It is also study-friendly. Tables and desks are everywhere, but for someone who likes their privacy, like myself, they also have study meeting rooms with WiFi in enclosed cubicles. Last but not least is the pleasant staff. Everytime I've been there they have welcomed me. One time when I was visiting in the summer, it had been raining and the bottom of my shoes were slicker than I realized and I slipped down the stairs. Immediately they came to my aid, asking if I was okay and helping me up. They checked up on me a few minutes later to make sure I was still doing alright. I also had the chance to meet the Director, Mary Ludlum, who graciously allowed me to take pictures of the library. read more

The Grandview Heights Public Library is probably my favorite library in Columbus. It's close to my office, so I can run over on my lunch hour and browse 'til my heart's content. They have an excellent media section downstairs that was recently revamped to make it easier to find your selection. The CD racks benefited most from this renovation. They're much easier to sift through now. And the movies are listed in alphabetical order. It can sometimes be overwhelming to just browse because of the large catalog, but there's a convenient "new releases" section when you first walk in that makes choosing a little easier. Reserving things at this library is also pretty convenient. Sure, every modern library offers you the chance to put your name on the list and wait (seemingly forever) for the latest copy of your favorite title (book, movie, what have you). But at GHPL, the turnaround seems to happen pretty quickly. I've gone from being number 104 on the list to having a movie in my hand in roughly a month. Not too shabby. I also rather enjoy the display tables they have near the circulation desk on the second floor. Everything is displayed in such a way that you can look at books that pique your interest and also get some great suggested reading along the way. The staff is hit or miss. Depending on the person behind the counter you could either get a sigh or a smile when you say you're there to pick up something you've reserved. read more

One of the best things about this library is that they have pretty much every TV show that has been released on DVD. Don't get me wrong: the Columbus library system has an impressive array of TV DVDs, but they seem to snub their noses at non-cable network shows. Not Grandview. Any old show can make it to their shelves, good or bad. Every season of "Cheers"? Got it. Classics like "Golden Girls" and "Mary Tyler Moore"? Yep. Even mid-80s crap TV, like "Charles in Charge"? Yep, got that too. You can take TV DVD sets out for 10 days, I think. That's much longer than Columbus library's measly 4 days. You can renew online. The only kicker is that late fees for movies cost $1.25 per day. That can be a real kick in the pants if you have, oh, say, five movies out and you are four days late. You'll owe the library a whopping $25. Believe me, I've done this, and I feel like I'll owe this debt for a very, very long time. Another annoying thing about this library is they send you a snail mail letter to gripe about your fines. Snail mail costs $.44 a letter these days. I've asked the librarians to just stop sending the letters, and deduct the postage cost from my debt, but that doesn't seem to go over so well. There's one thing that librarians are not known for, and that's a sense of humor. But all in all, if you get your DVDs back in time, the Grandview public library can supply you with endless hours of TV, both network and cable. Spend a week watching back-to-back episodes of MASH. Spend the next week vegging out to all six seasons of Lost. That's what the library is there for: to help you ease into a life of leisure, lying on the couch. read more

This library is such a delightful little find! I was first introduced to it while studying for the CPA exam - I did a fair amount of searching around for new study spots, and stumbled upon it towards the end of my exam prep. They have small study rooms you can commandeer by yourself or use for a small group. There is also a silent reading room that I found especially handy for running through flash cards. And there's free wi-fi! And there are study tables scattered throughout if you need a change of scenery! Enough about study spots though, let's get down to the actual library. Like others have said, the DVD library is definitely worth checking out. Once I've perused the books, I usually stop by the DVD section to see if anything trips my trigger. The three day limit is a little tight, but it's basically a free rental so totally worth it. We've never had issues with scratched disks or similar. The online system has been very easy to work - I usually reserve the books I want online and pick them up in person when they show up. You can sign up for text alerts or emails to be notified when your items come due or are available in person. A+. read more

The good ol' Columbus Metro Library may get more props (and real estate), but the Grandview Public Library is great find. It's peaceful and easy to use...which is not always true of the CML. It's staffed by knowledgeable folks -- no small thing in a library. The fiction and non-fiction sections are both easy to navigate. The library also boasts a well-maintained selection of DVDs, CDs and graphic novels. And for anyone who has ever requested an item at a library in Grandview's consortium (Lancaster, Pickerington, Lithopolis, etc.) chances are pretty good it came from Grandview...so it's well stocked to say the least. read more

I am addicted. And unlike most addictions, I'm not interested in kicking this habit and my mother is very proud. Is it okay for a multitude of staff to know you by your first name without having to hand your card over? I hope so otherwise I'm in trouble. It wasn't until I moved out of the country and attempted to become addicted to another countries local library system did I realize how lucky I really was. And this was a nice, big, non-third-world country. I am constantly blown away by the vast selection and various mediums they carry. Sometimes I just play around on their website searching for random things and just when I think I've finally found something they don't have, it comes up as being available. There is however, one thing I'd like to raise holy heck about. And I'm contemplating writing to someone very important, whoever that may be. I am tired, I SAY, TIRED of getting late fees? I can't take it anymore and your flexibility, payment options and niceness are constantly making me feel even more guilty! So stop it GHPL. Stop being so nice to me when we know i must be the most perpetually late book returner in the entire universe!! read more

Family events get very crowed and busy because they are popular and mostly free. *The staff is always hit or miss. This place is pretty great! I check in here a couple of times a week to study. The top floor is quieter and definitely better for my purposes, since the bottom floor tends to be popular with the kids. Friendly staff, CLEAN (never ever had to swipe any miscellaneous crumbs off the tables), never really crowded, and you can use your CML card here without any problem, though they do have a specific Grandview Library Card available too. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a nice space to get some work done. read more

I've been going to this library since I started school with my mother, siblings and friends. Volunteered and had a family member work there. Most of my experiences have been precious and many good times spent at this library. Very helpful staff and good selection. But there have been things I've noticed on a personal level that I've experienced thru out my years of visiting my favorite library. Some staff seem to look down on some patrons. Even as a child, when my mother wasn't around or when I was older. A couple of staff member(s) felt like that was the time to make me feel like I wasn't welcome. By belittling me, or removing my books from the table I was sitting at that I had with my things while I was using the copy machine. One time after moving back home after college, signing up for new library cards for me and my son was more of a big disappointment. The cards they gave us, were never activated. So we had to refill out the paperwork again. I've recently moved back to my hometown and make frequent trips to the library. The staff are very helpful and seem eager to help. Some even remember me. But there are moments where I see them treat a patrons not the best as they would anyone else who regularly visits their library. Even at times I get a staff member who rushes me along and doesn't give me the same friendly treatment. I am pretty understanding since I work in the customer service field myself. So, I really try and go out of my way when I give customer service. I treat others they way I would like to be treated at an office, store or restaurant. So I do know that there are times that I wish I could have given 110% rather than 100%. But I would never go out of my way to treat someone poorly or ignore them, so when it happens to me. I will make it known, maybe they staff will be better informed and better trained. This library has great programs for kids and family. Programs that I wished they had while I was attending school there. So I am looking forward to sign my child or suggest to other families to there programs, concerts and art showings. Great selection on movies and music. You can find a copy of mostly anything. On the web site they can get copies sent from other librarys that are not with the Columbus libraries. Any items they don't have, check out the Columbus Library selection. Also, they will not accept Columbus Library materials. So beware when returning items if you use Columbus library items and vice versia. read more

I love my library. I used to go to Upper Arlington, but I've found that Grandview, while smaller, is much more style. The employees are much friendlier and it's easier to find your way around. Often you have to wait a long time for popular books, but that's true at any library. I particularly love their DVD section. I'm constantly surprised at how many TV shows are offered & have been making my way through the HBO shows. read more

The Grandview library is a really nice place to just be. There are study spaces all over, computers, a copy machine, a kids section, a teen section, non-fiction, reference, CD section, movie section, magazines, tv shows, and now- you can check out GUITARS. The kids and teen sections are really popular after 3:00- when everyone gets out of school. There is a wii U that you can check out controllers for and long shelf of books to buy for only 1 or 2$. The programs they offer for children are so fun, and there are regular concerts in the summer. The staff are really nice, and if you come often enough, they will remember you by name. The main hall, called the atrium, is really pretty and a relaxing place to read. If SILENCE is your thing, there is a quit reading room where you can hear the quit. Really, its absolutely silent. The selection of movies, tv shows, cds and records is great, and you never have to wait for something to come in for long. There is a great outside space, and even meeting rooms downstairs. Enjoy the best local library you'll ever visit. read more
