The room was an en-suite. It was clean and comfortable, (brilliant use of space for the tub and toilet) with coffee and tea mini-bar and a colour tv. Breakfast was nicely served in a big and clean dining room. The only downside of the place is the rarity of buses going to my destination which was the QE, but I guess it could be my fault as I was an outsider from town. Overall, a nice place to stay and I would definitely choose it again if I'd go to King's Lynn.

This place though, was much better than I imagined it might be. Its a reasonably small family run establishment with a few bedrooms (I think I was the only guest at the time) located, as the name suggests, by the side of the towns small railway station. The rooms were comfortable and adequate, the breakfasts were fantastic - and they even accomodated me getting up at a stupid time of morning and having an early breakfast for work purposes. The bar area takes up most of the floorspace, and while the locals are a little insular at the best of times, it was reasonably friendly, and service was always with a smile. The price for a five night stay was particularly reasonable, and I;d certainly go back again if I was in the area.

The hotel is ideally situated if you're a wedding guest, as it's five minutes by car or a 20 minute walk - so if you can't get a taxi at the end of the night you don't have to trek too far. They have 20 bedrooms - 10 within 'The Vic' itself and a further 10 in Ancient House, located directly opposite. The Vic has a large restaurant and bar, spacious conservatory, outside terraces and drawing room (where paying guests have sole access to complimentary whiskies, ports and rums!). It's almost completely dog-friendly here - there were about six in the restaurant alone! We ended up having dinner here on the Friday night and then breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday. All of the food was delicious and locally sourced. Their wine list was also really good, though expect to pay a premium here. The staff were all terrific and you were made to feel right at home. Our room ('Joe's Stop') was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfy and my huge walk-in shower in the en suite was a definite highlight! The hotel has seriously enviable views over the Holkham National Nature Reserve. It's also very close to Holkham Beach. The location is just superb in every way. Tip: Breakfasts are included in the room rates. Tip: Check in is after 3pm on the day of arrival. Check out is 11am or earlier on the day of departure.

It's not cheap but if you're looking to splurge it's great for an evening meal out. If all you're looking for is a pint and some top-quality bar food it's the place to head for too. It's right opposite the Lady Anne's road that leads down to the stunning Holkham beach too a great place to stop off after a walk in this truly beautiful area.

Beers are well kept and mainly from the Woodfordes brewery local to this area of Norfolk.
