    Cool lil place!

Very cool lil mom and pop ice cream shop on the edge of Des Moines. The Peanut Butter Cup Artic Swirl and the Hot Fudge Parfait were very good and reasonably priced! Sorry, no pic of the Artic Swirl...I was too intent on devouring it.

I was looking for a new local ice cream place to try and found Granny's! It was easy to find, but a little tricky to find parking. They have a huge menu with lots of flavors. The staff was kind and quick. They take card, but only with a $5 minimum charge so bring cash. I got the s'mores Arctic swirl which was a crunchy chocolate, whole marshmallows, and graham cracker chunks. My friend got the puppy chow flavor which she thought was really good too! Will definitely be coming back!

Always the best ice cream in town. We drive here from Ankeny for this little slice of heaven.

A great little ice cream place with reasonable prices. This is old fashioned soft-serve style ice cream with all the options like floats, malts, sundae, or dipped cones. Prices are low so you can bring the family without taking out a second mortgage. They have tables to sit at out side. No indoor tables, no booze. Not even sure if they have a rest room.

Pretty good ice cream. We got a small black raspberry malt and a twist ice cream cone. The total came to just under $7. There is no seating inside or outside so you have to go up to the window, order your ice cream then take it with you.

An Eastside tradition. Better than any other local ice cream shops in town. It's a hole in the wall, on the frontage road near where they just redid Hubbell Ave. You've probably driven by many times, wondering what that pink trimmed building was all about. Well, turn the car around and stop by! It's worth the trip. I no longer live in the neighborhood, but we still make the trek across town to get this ice cream. The flavor of the base vanilla ice cream is wonderful.... as expected from something that's been around for over 30 years. The menu allows you to top off the ice cream with almost any thing you can think of. Arctic swirls are popular... It's Granny's answer to the blizzard. I'm partial to the nerds arctic swirl, but all flavors are fantastic. Slushies and shaved ice are also on the menu. Portions are HUGE! A small arctic swirl is 12 oz. Get the larger size and take it home for later. In fact, you have to take it to go anyway.... No indoor seating and limited outdoor seating on a normal season. On this particular day I finally broke down and got the unicorn shake (pictured). It's quite delightful. Very sugary. It was good, but I'll probably stick to my arctic swirl or sundae instead.

Great place! I went to another ice cream place and it was in a worse part of town. Flavorful and big portions! Try an Arctic freeze!

Never disappoints. Definitely a family tradition to go. As summer ends we have been hitting them up and trying new things each visit.

Awesome ice cream! I love the cookie dough attic freezes and the small town feel. This is truly a local gem.

Best ice cream shop in the area. The Krunch Kote arctic swirl is the best, but all of their convictions are fantastic!

The ice cream selections are amazing, and so many its is hard to choose, but i did! We got massive scoops of yummy, creamy deliciousness on a fresh and crispy waffle cone, of which they have several types to choose from. The workers on this particular day were fantastic, attentive and fast, They even hooked us up with some pup cups to go! (The dogs thank you!) If you are feeling like rewarding yourself or just have a hankering for something delicious and Ice Cream fits the bill, pop on in to the Uptown Dairy and try their treats! I've never…read morebeen here before but my husband and I ate dinner nearby so we decided to stop here for ice cream. When I saw all the different flavors they had, I had high hopes. I thought their flavors would be unique and wonderful like Black Cat in Des Moines, but I was very disappointed. I usually ask for samples of two different flavors before I make a decision, but after trying two different samples and not finding either one interesting, I asked for two more. I wasn't wowed by any of them, so I chose the one I thought was the strongest of all of them: Dutch Letter. It was ok but I was expecting a lot more of the almond extract flavor. It was very subtle. I didn't find it rich or creamy either. It tasted like an ice cream I could get at the grocery store if they had that flavor. It was nothing remarkable. The most objectionable thing to me was the cost of the scoop of ice cream. It was $5.99 for a regular scoop! My husband and I were shocked. We thought that surely for that price the scoops must be enormous, but alas, they were just average-sized. I don't know how they get away with charging that much, but the place was filled with people so they must be paying for it. The place was cute and a good number of tables but won't be back. We'll stick to Black Cat.
