I am Adam, and I initially chose this veterinary clinic for my pet. Elli provided exceptional care during her initial visit, demonstrating kindness, attentiveness, and a remarkable bedside manner. Unfortunately, Elli is no longer at the clinic after our first visit, my subsequent experiences have been horribly disappointing. The new veterinarian assigned to my pet after Elli left displayed rudeness and unprofessionalism, failing to properly clip her nails, and also had a horrible bedside manner and customer service skills; she was highly rude. The management team's response to my concerns was also unsatisfactory, as they just seemed not to care and immediately offered to drop us as a patient instead of readily wanting to actually help my pet. During my last two visits, I have encountered staff members who frequently interrupt clients, dismissing their concerns, not listening, and being very inconsistent / don't even bother to read the notes and have actual labs and information before jumping to conclusions . when telling us information When I politely addressed this behavior, one staff member admitted to being abrupt; he was seemingly unphased by the issue. Saying "that's just how I am" I believe it is essential for a veterinary clinics to prioritize pet care and give good /consistent and accurate communication. Given my experiences, I would advise others to seek alternative care. As I have chose to do. This clinic has been the worst I've encountered personally as of my last few visits. read more

When I brought my pet in for shots we were pressured relentlessly to put the visit on some sort of payment plan they sponsored. We declined because a 250 dollar appointment would have ended up being almost twice that with this program. We were told that my pet would have to come in for a booster shot in 4 weeks to finish the series. At the time we asked if the booster was included in the 250 dollars that we paid or would it be another charge. The vet tech said it was all included. When my husband brought the dog back after the booster he was in formed there would be another charge for this. When he tried to explain we were told differently the receptionist scoffed and said "Don't you think that's stupid to pay for something up front you might not come back for? Why would we tell you that?" Which in my opinion was very rude. They also forgot the pet's medication so when I called to ask the about the medicine the receptionist cut me off mid sentence and said they were busy but she would get the medication ready and we could pick it up. I understand people have bad days so I thought I would give them a second chance. Big mistake. I called to have a pet med refilled and once again the receptionist cut me off when I was explaining what we needed and told me if I'd be quiet she would finish communicating with me about the dose he would receive. This place is unfortunately a scam. They charged me $66 preemptively for my first appointment to take care of my cat's wellness exam. I called ahead because I was 10 minutes late, but when I came in they had me reschedule to a couple days later. They charged me another $66 for the wellness exam when it actually happened, but they did NOT communicate this policy to me. I paid $30 for his feces to be examined also, which thankfully was fine, but another $6 for them to throw it away? I could have done that part for free. I was happy and thought everything was fine until I got to the front to pay and realized all of the charges, it's unfortunate. read more

My first visit with Grant Ave pet hospital went really well and I liked Dr Ellie very much! But I'm beginning to have reservations. I'm leaving my original post and then adding to it my update. One of the things that is kind of cool is if you refer someone you get a $25 credit to your account for future use AND the person who was referred gets $25 off THEIR first visit. Well I referred my dad who took is dog in for a boney lump on her head that was getting larger. They wanted to xray it and told him that the xray was $100. Ouch! Anyway, it is what it is. So they took the xray and then said that they didn't know what it was. They'd never seen anything like that before. So that was it. The end. No diagnosis. So upon checking out the charge for the X ray was $150. My dad reminded them that they said the x ray was $100. They then said That is correct. The x ray is $100. BUT if you want us to actually READ the x ray we charge $50 for that. So transparency in billing is extremely shady here. Not to mention I feel bad for having referred him. Not only that they didn't actually read the x ray because they had no clue what it was. So they charged him $100 to TAKE the x ray and then $50 to tell him they didn't have a clue what it was. Then I needed to take my two cats in for a wellness check. It's a requirement by my landlord. We do this once a year. I called them to make an appointment. I told them they are up to date on all their vaccines. They just needed to be checked for fleas, overall health. Just a standard wellness check. No tests or anything, no vaccines. I asked what they charged. They said the total for both cats would be $100. I asked if that price included the $25 credit that was on my account. She said no it didn't but they would take the $25 off when I checked out. Then she said "Oh, and I made a mistake. The cost will be $125." As soon as I mentioned I had a $25 credit they immediately said they misquoted me the price and they raised the price by $25. How convenient. I remember when I lived out in Stockton Mo there was a very nice vet out there by the name of Dr Cramer. So even though it's an hours drive each way I decided to take my kitties to Dr. Cramer. He is 90 years old now but he still comes into work every day and now he has been joined by his grandson Dr Aaron Cramer. Total charge for both kitties.....$40. Plus the $10 in gas I spent. What I am really impressed with is Dr Cramer is actually known to take Eggs, chickens, baked goods, fresh honey, etc as trade for services when people might not have the money for vet care. I haven't had to go that route but I find it very impressive and it says a lot about his character and passion for his trade. Try that with Grant ave or for that matter ANY vet in Springfield. I'll bet dollars to donuts their answer to that question will be "We don't do that." You can bet me and the kitties will be taking a drive out in the country to see Doc Cramer every year from now on! read more

They refused to give the dog liquid IV despite the owner begging the vet to do so. They instead gave her pills and told her to "shove them down her throat". That dog had longer to live than just the 11 years it did. They've almost killed my friends cat and they did kill their mom's dog, her best friend. read more

i used to go to this vet for my cat, nova, for help on his skin allergies. basically all they advised was to get him benadryl and shove it down his throat. this never worked and he would gag it all back up. i asked if he could give him liquid antihistamine to calm down his allergies and they told me there was nothing they could do. his skin allergies became SO bad that i had to take him to the e-vet only to find out that could give him the liquids he needed. i left grant pet hospital because of the obvious lack of care they were providing him. here's the kicker, they KILLED my family dog due to lack of neglect over the past 2 weeks. my mom begged and pleaded to them for liquid IV or liquid antibiotics because she stopped eating for two weeks and stopped drinking for about 3 days. they told her there was nothing they could do for her. our family dog, sasha, still had 1-2 years left in her and because of their own negligence, she suffered to the point where we couldn't make her suffer anymore and to have her put down due to this vet office's negligence. their facilities gave her kennel cough and she was rapidly declining in health and all they did was sell my mother $300 worth of drugs instead of giving her the help she needed. this could have been avoided if the vet and vet techs actually CARED about this dog. bottom line: don't go here if you don't have a cat or a perfectly behaved dog that you can spend $1,000s of dollars on in one vet visit. if you can't provide that, they could care less about your pet. if you're low income, they could care less. read more

I had to take my sweet kitty in yesterday morning because she was not feeling like herself. This was our first trip to Grant Ave and unfortunately, her last. A bad diagnosis had us leaving without our sweet girl but I have nothing but good things to say about everyone who helped us. You never forget the faces of those that help you through that sort of thing. They could not have been more kind, informative, and compassionate. I know that can't weigh easy on them and I commend them for it. I'm glad my girl's final rest was in a place where everyone was so kind to her and helped her along quickly and comfortably. read more

**READ BEFORE CHOOSING THIS VET** I'm new to Springfield and needed a new vet after my dog with pretty bad allergies had another flare up. I looked up reviews and wanted to go to the Route 66 vet, they couldn't get me in before Thanksgiving so they told me about Grant Avenue. I was in such a hurry to get her treated that I didn't check the reviews or I probably wouldn't have come here. I'm going to give you a detailed explanation as to why I will NOT be returning with my fur babies so you can understand and make your own decisions. Firstly, I made the appointment and had all of my vet records transferred. All fine and dandy, we just adopted a rescue named Prim a week prior. She had been fully vetted before so there was no need for her to go..BUT we are dealing with separation anxiety with her so we decided to bring her along just to sit as her sister got treated. We walk in and the place, just looks outdated and gross. It smells like pee heavily and I'm immediately turned off, but I know Violet (dog with allergies needing the visit) needs to be treated so I just push forward. We walk in and we wait for probably 10-15 minutes and the office is SCORCHING hot. So we're uncomfortable, the dogs are uncomfortable and we want to leave ASAP. The vet tech greats us and we explain what's wrong with Violet and that her vet records have been transferred over and that should probably dictate a course of action. She asked about Prim our other dog, and I say "she doesn't need to be seen, she's just here because she's new to our home and she has separation anxiety" My Fiance concludes with, just bringing her to help with her comfort levels with us. So tell me why she needed to call the rescue organization to grab our other dog's records when we told her she didn't need to be treated??? Should have been my first indicator. **Mind you both of my dogs are VERY well behaved. They are nonreactive and are calm. The vet comes in and talks a little bit to us. I wasn't thrilled with my last vet as he was stern and cold towards my animals, and she was the same way. All business and it didn't seem like she could really connect with her patients. The vet asks us about Prim again, we say she's in perfect health and has been cleared by a vet at the rescue, she doesn't need to be seen just deals with separation anxiety (common with dogs that have been owner surrendered) The vet gives us a course of action for Violet and explains shes going to give her a skin scrape. She takes Violet and my dog starts backing up towards me like she didn't want to leave with them. They had me walk to the door with her and she was promptly returned. They showed me a bill that correlated with the course of action and it was nearly 500.00??!!! We've been to plenty of vets and know average treatment as Violet has been dealing with allergies since she was 3 and is now 5.They then took her to the back again and gave her a shot and my dog returns COVERED IN HER OWN FECES. They lightly explain something about her anal glands and TRYING to clean her and then leave the room. My Fiance and I were STUNNED. Violet scurries under the chair and our feet and will NOT moved. I had to look up what happened on my phone and it said that dogs express their anal glands during times when they are extremely scared or stressed. I'm wondering WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY DOG!!!!!!!!! THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AT ANY VET, ANY GROOMING, ANY INTERACTION SHE HAS HAD IN HER LIFE WITH ME FOR 5 YEARS. I'm confused and in a panic state because my poor Violet is hiding under a chair not moving and sitting in her own stool on her tail and all the way down her legs. Violet is anxious, Prim starts pacing and has an accident. They cover it with a paper towel and just swirl it around, but don't actually spray anything to clean it? I was bewildered. They come back in and ask about Prim and her separation anxiety, I say it's just as we leave the house and it's accidents around the house. I explain we just ordered a custom kennel for her to start training and it will be handled once we start doing that. She offers some training tips and a hormone spray to help calm her while we are away. I buy that as I deem it useful and just thought she was being kind and offering. So we leave, I'm NOT pleased with the experience but I am thrilled to LEAVE, I sign for the bill...550.00 because they added Prim as a patient AFTER WE TOLD THEM NOT TO 3 TIMES. My family started using Grant Avenue Pet Hospital years ago. They did a good job in the past, but they don't seem to care about the customers anymore. My girlfriend and I took our dogs there and was told to give one of them three different medicines to help with a couple conditions she developed. On our return visit for a check up, the same vet asked me why we gave her those medicines, because they were not the right ones for those conditions and she didn't have the conditions he diagnosed her with. He then proceeded to diagnose her with something different and prescribe new medicines. Of course, all of which we had to purchase from them. Meanwhile, we were out over $150 for the medicines alone, thanks to Dr. Rund. When I tried to speak with someone at the front desk, they offered no solution or interest in our situation. They where, however, interested in being paid for that visit. So, I paid for the first visit and got an incorrect diagnosis. I paid over $150 for the medicines he told me I needed. I also paid for the check up visit, even though I was told the first diagnosis was wrong. What I didn't get was an apology, a refund or sympathy for my pet who had to endure all of this. I had a couple other prior visits which weren't nearly as bad, but I was still upset with the service. The only reason I would go to Grant Avenue Pet Hospital is if my pet is dying and needs to be euthanized. read more

Here we go again...My name is Jim Overton and I must implore you to stay away from Grant Ave. Pet Hospital in Springfield, MO. They are more worried about how to juice every cent from you they can, rather than top physical health of your pet. Without going into details about the many ways this place provides the least amount of service at the most cost...I will tell you their receptionists are not only rude, Jonja, in particular, has charged me for a full doses of medications, while only giving me half of what was ordered. Dr. Rund was incompetent in misdiagnosing a type 2 malignant mast cell tumor as, "a simple cyst"...and after mishap after mishap, and lie after lie from these poor excuses for pet care, I decided to take my business elsewhere without incident or making a fuss or reporting them to the better business bureau. I felt that leaving with an unpaid balance of less than $70 would be a sufficient way to express just how disappointed I was with their brand of service... 3 weeks ago, my dog Samson was diagnosed again with another mast cell tumor. My current vet, who is always on the ball when it comes to pet health care, asked me for copies of his previous medical records since this was the 2nd time for him to get cancer. I made 3 calls to Grant Ave. Pet Hospital, ending each call, having been promised that those records would be faxed immediately...On my 4th call I spoke with Jonja...even though I had made all 4 calls with the proper common decency, this time I was met with the upmost rude behavior. I was also told that since I had a 3 year old unpaid balance of less than $70, they refused to fax over the records...Even though, the records I needed covered procedures already paid for...they still refused. Now, let me ask you...is this the type of place you want to take your loved ones??? Feel free to email me and I'll be more than happy to fill you in on all the other affronts this place is famous for. I will never go back! I had my 16 year old chihuahua euthanized there. I wanted her to be cremated so i could bring her back home. They said it could take up to 2 weeks but usually 1and they would call when they get her. I waited patiently to hear from them after a week and a half I finally decided to call and check on her. I was told she had been there a week and know one ever called to let me know. I never received a I'm sorry at all. I delivered a letter to them expressing my concerns for the lack of caring and compassion. I told them to feel free to contact me so we can discuss this. If I would have been contacted and apologized for the miscommunication lack of caring I would not me posting this review. Unfortunately they were not willing to contact me. Wish I could give them a minus score. This clinic is the most uncompassionate animal hospital I have had the unfortunate experience to visit. After a long difficult realization that my elder dog had reached the time to cross rainbow bridge I unfortunately chose this place. They could have not cared any less about the grief I or discomfort my dog was going thru. I was made to wait in the lobby for 20 mins after being told I was a work in when I called 2 days earlier and made and appointment. Then I was made to do a quality of life Q and A for the vet tech and she never even looked at it. She then told the vet I had questions when I did not. The vet was more worried about me signing paperwork that talking to me about my dog or asking me how I wanted to handle my dogs remains. The vet had an "I can't be bothered" attitude. We were in a closet sized exam room and they did nothing to help accommodate the size of my large dog so that I could sit with him. After they were quick to ask for money and did not even tell me when I would receive my dogs ashes back. I had to ask as she was going out the door. No one showed any sympathy or compassion. I was not a regular customer but that should not have mattered. Giving my dog a compassionate and dignified euthanasia should have mattered to them. After all that is the business they are in. I have had to put down other animals in my long life and have never experienced anything so awful as this clinic. read more

I have been taking my cat there for going on 2 years and today was the first day that I have had a bad experience. I am not sure if it is the new direction of the hospital, or just the one particular technician that handled my pet today. I have taken him in monthly for nail trims and medicine application with no problem whatsoever, but today his collar had been taken off to "scruff him up more" (said by the technician), literal tuffs of hair were pulled out from his neck, and he is limping. The tech advised me after this appointment that he must be having a bad day because he tried biting her, he has never done that to any other tech before. Even so, him trying to bite her does not constitute the tech being abusive to the animal. Isn't it normal practice to alert the owner of an uncooperative animal to reschedule the appointment? I will be requesting his health records and traveling further away/more expensive place for better care. read more
