The deli here has the best Hot Olives ever. I saw them in the deli section when I was picking up macaroni salad and I just couldn't resist. They were only $5.99/lb and staring me in the face so I tried a smallish container in case there were too spicy for my tastes. Once I got home and tried them I knew I would be back for more. Grauls also has delicious cakes although the bakery told me they do not make fancy cakes now. When i showed them a picture of a fancy unicorn cake we ordered from them in Feb they said they don't do that anymore. We ordered a cake from them anyway, and it was still delicious, but I guess they no longer put all those pretty frosting flowers and decorations all over the place and it's just a normal plain cake you could get at any supemarket. read more

This review is about the poor customer service in the bakery, I stood there for about five minutes while a lady behind the counter. Never asked me if I need any assistance. Was it my skin color? The answer is yes She didn't know whether or not someone was helping me or not because she never asked if I could help you with something until the other young lady came back from upstairs correcting my cake that I had to purchase over the phone and when I placed the order I had special instructions for it however, when I picked it up, it wasn't to you my satisfaction so I asked them if they could correct it. I love when young adults start in the working world sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don't she didn't quite understand what I was asking until the second time around which it was corrected, but again not to my satisfaction, but it's a little too late. I already done spent my money and it's I have to deal with it. The cake itself is not bad but again it wasn't what I wanted but when are we gonna start putting skin complexion to the side and just service people as people, I can't keep supporting businesses that don't care for me. this will be my last time shopping at this market read more

Another Fat Tuesday, another King Cake from Graul's. Curiously though, the baby was missing. The baby is the most essential detail of a King Cake, yet he was nowhere to be found this year! The cake was still tasty and made for a nice Fat Tuesday traditional dessert. Graul's is consistent with quality when it comes to prepared food: chicken salad, curried chicken salad, sandwiches, etc. The donuts are some of the best around. Would highly recommend Graul's for anything, but especially catering orders! I recently placed an order during a difficult time for a close friend who was going through multiple family emergencies and losses. The order was delivered on time, beautifully presented, and exactly as requested. The quality of the food was excellent, but what really stood out was how kind and professional the staff was throughout the entire process. One of my favorite items for many years has been their coleslaw. However, they have obviously changed the recipe which has been most disappointing. When I brought this to their attention they said there hadn't been a change. The problem is it now has some very dark pieces of cabbage and larger pieces of cabbage. It is definitely not the same. I rarely buy it any longer. I will just keep checking to see if it returns to the original recipe. I shop at Mays Chapel and Ruxton store. read more

Except for Lester, Graul's in Ruxton is falling. Here is a review I wrote minutes ago. I wish I had written it about Graul's Ruxton. "My husband and I are elderly and have been quite sick. The only thing he can tolerate is soup. We had some chicken noodle on hand but have used it. He, at 88, was going to go to Atwater's or Graul's or Eddies to get soup. I talked him into letting me call first. Atwater's had what we wanted but it had to be purchased in person and picked up. Graul's had a minimum grocery charge of $100.00 a delivery fee of $50.00 and a statement saying "this is Sunday we don't have any staff to deliver". No other questions were asked. No encouragement. No hope. No other considerations when I clarified I am in their store three times a week for the past thirty years. Eddies on Charles street took our name and number and said someone would call us. We were very skeptical and back to planning how to get what we needed. Within minutes Thea phoned. She could not have been any nicer or any more helpful. We didn't need much, but we needed what we needed. Once the order was placed my husband went back to bed and honestly he could hardly get there. He is quite week from this flu. His legs very unsteady and not able to sit up easily even to drink water. Our groceries were delivered within an hour. The order was absolutely perfect. No minimal charge. Delivery fee of $7.00. The professionalism with which Eddie's handled the call and request was absolutely stellar!! A review had to be written. Thank You Eddies. Without you today, we would have had a major problem. I have ordered cakes from this establishment for over five years for every occasion and celebration we've had. They were definitely my bakery of choice and came highly recommended. I continued to order cakes from them even after they messed up my wedding cake because they took responsibility for the HUGE MESS-UP! Fast forward to recently, I gave my husband a surprise party, and when my friend arrived to pick up the cake, it was not ready. This caused the cake to arrive at the venue AFTER the birthday boy. Not cool! I called to express my disappointment as a long-time customer, and the general manager sent a message via an employee that although I have ordered a ton of cakes, I complained twice and therefore they no longer want my business. I was completely shocked and taken aback by her response. To make matters worse, when I called to speak with her directly, the phone was hung up on me three times. I have never been treated this way because I realize that when you approach a situation with respect, it is typically reciprocated. However, not this time. I guess they no longer wanted my business or the business of my referrals, and this was their way of showing it. I don't like to think that race played a part, but what else could it be? read more

I ordered a catering service with Graul's Market through Foodify.com for a work event earlier this morning. I ordered an assortment of breakfast pastries consisting of sticky buns, scones, turnovers, etc, all bite size!! Along with the pastries I ordered from yogurts (gotta be healthy) and their coffee. Everything was to die for!!! No need to order silverware and napkins because they supply that free of service, which is a rarity for most businesses that offer catering. The delivery driver, Kahl Salvatore, showed up 5 mins early, which I did not mind, and set everything up like a pro!!! If I need another continental style breakfast for a workgroup, I'll definitely use them again!! read more

I didn't even know this market existed, but I stopped in for a quick purchase of salad. The market had a large variety of food, some lesser known brands, market brands, and typical named brand items. It was a good mix. They have a deli and fresh food area- most of the food was crusted over as it had been sitting out all day. However the crab cake appeared fresh and DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I would come back just for that. The bakery had a nice variety, and the pumpkin spice cupcake I tried was good. The downside- the market was extraordinarily expensive for basic items. You can also tell that many items just don't sell, with the entire ice cream section being frozen over. AND THE LAST STRAW! I got really sick from the salad that was packaged by them. I love Graul's but there are two problems that I need to address. First, had ordered steamed lobsters to be picked up at a certain time on a Saturday afternoon. Called before leaving to make sure they would be ready and the seafood lady indicated she was putting them in the steamer. Got to Graul's and picked them up, indicated there were four and the seafood lady only gave us two and put a label that indicated they were shrimp not lobsters. Upon going back in, found out that she only steamed two lobsters and not the four that were requested. She said she would put the other two in to be steamed and it would be about 20 minutes or so. Approximately 45 minutes to get the lobsters that should have been ready when we arrived and were not. Even after calling before leaving, she still didn't get it right and these were ordered 4 days before we needed them. Had ordered lobsters in the past, no problem, ready upon arrival. Also, while I was waiting in the car for the other two lobsters to be steamed, I watched an employee out front not cleaning any of the carts returned or carts given to other customers arriving. That is totally unacceptable! I visit lots of other area supermarkets and they are constantly making sure the cart handles are sanitized between customers. In this day in age, they should be getting cleaned and not just have a table with spray and towels. For a store like Graul's, these are two glaring issues that should not have occurred. Sure, I'll be back to Graul's because I love the store, but these are two things that need to be resolved -- especially the carts being sanitized. The lobsters, well, I'll just chalk that off to being an off day. Hopefully a manager will see this and make correction as soon as possible. read more

After having a slice of Marcel Duchamp urinal cake here last year at a graduation party (for art school peeps), our class knew we needed to come back to Graul's to get a cake for our 80s aerobics themed grad party. We were not disappointed with our beautiful 80s butt cake, clad in spandex and even a bit of 80s wedgie. Not only was the whole aesthetic on point, it was freakin' delicious! I called and placed an order for danishes two days before I needed them, when I went to pick them up the order it was totally wrong. I told the worker to which she replied, "you don't always get what you want." And then she told me that she didn't like my attitude because I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was of no help either. I walked away with a wrong order and terrible costumer service. I went here today and ordered a Chicken Salad sandwich on rye, nothing else on it. I watched the woman take the salad and weigh it, it was a tad over 1/4 pound so she took the tad off and put it back in the case. When I went to check out I realized they were charging $7.50 for the sandwich. The chicken salad is$11.99 a pound , so the 1/4 pound would cost $3.00. The chicken salad is undoubtedly delicious but $4.50 for 2 slices of rye bread just seemed an outrageous act of thievery. I gave the sandwich back to them and left. Graul's is a small neighborhood grocery/specially store. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. They make the best chicken salad. It is not inexpensive, but it is so worth the price of $8.99 a pound. The white meat chicken is shredded and dressed with just the right amount of mayonnaise and seasoning. Best grocery store in the world! I've lived all over, Europe, South America, the West Coast - and no place has the quality and selection of Graul's homemade and prepared foods. COOKIES COOKIES COOKIES!! Their almond macaroons are like pure marzipan and melt in your mouth. Chocolate top cookies that you can't stop eating. Jelly cookies that taste like sponge cake. Every time I come here I load up on several boxes for friends on the west coast. DONUTS, DANISHES, CORN MUFFINS, ECLAIRS They still are better than all the rest, they taste great and there is nothing like a Graul's cinnamon cake donut covered in sugar and cinnamon - this is not Dunkin Donuts or Hostess and that is a GOOD THING. Best deli and prepared foods in Baltimore. They still make a shrimp salad that is ALL shrimp. Their chicken salad comes in two varieties and is always fresh and LIGHT on the MAYO. HOMEMADE SOUPS! HOMEMADE JAMS AND JELLIES! This store is a plethora of old world goodies from a traditional family owned grocery and the quality is comparable to a European bakery. They make their own bread, cheese biscuits, powder rolls, pretzel rolls, they even make their own MAYONNAISE and it is to die for. RACK OF LAMB, VEAL, jumbo lump CRAB CAKES!! This place has some nice store-made goods, but overall impression is that most things are over priced and just displayed nicely. The cheese selection is very very nice as is the sausage selection. The produce is super fresh and lovely. The meat selection is reasonably priced, but small. I think the big draw is pre-made food that's ready to eat. I bought the crab pate - it was gross and overpriced. Tasted like jello mixed with crab, green onions and a little cream cheese. Not tasty! This place may be worth a stop for one or two items, but I would never do all my shopping here. Maybe I've just tried the wrong things. Pros: Ownership and store managers will usually bend over backwards to meet the needs of the customers. Prepared Foods department makes really good soups and has a good selection in their cold case. The Deli's homemade chicken salad is highly recommended, and their sandwiches/subs are tasty and meaty. The bakery makes some items from scratch, a rare thing nowadays (hot milk cake and apple bread is highly recommended), and the decorated cakes are top notch. Good quality produce. Great selection of meats and seafood. The grocery items have some interesting specialty selections and some local flavor (Berger cookies, Jeppi's nuts, Baltimore Coffee Company, Pollock Johnny's, ect ). Family owned. Will deliver catering orders. Cons: Overpriced. Most grocery items can be bought at a lesser price at larger chains, which should be expected because Graul's Market is a smaller business. Location is off the beaten path. Overall: It definitely has a homey, old school grocery market feel. Again, ownership will meet the customers demands. I wouldn't do my regular grocery shopping at Graul's, but the specialty items and made from scratch items are definitely worth the price. read more

I ordered, on March 20th, a special birthday cake for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. It was to have her favorite character, Minnie Mouse on it. I arrived at Graul's in Ruxton at the designated 9 am on March 31st to find that not only was there no cake, but they could not even find the order which I had placed in person. Wasn't ready when we went there after 9 a.m. Made us wait for 45 minutes. Some people feel thats a nice change of pace, cute and even quaint until its a heavy shopping time and you have to negotiation your cart with 14 others to get to the prepared foods case (which is also nice).
