Visited this Italian-American restaurant for an office/team outing in downtown Raleigh. Service was good. Food was tasty. Great bruschetta and risotto balls. Good Chicken Caesar salad (I had grilled chicken, but colleagues ordered seared scallops or shrimp). A colleague also had the pomegranate and pickles fennel which looked delicious. The space is a rather narrow one as another reviewer mentioned but worked for us. No complaints. Also, FWIW, I hear this establishment was once proclaimed the best Italian restaurant in the Triangle, but I haven't fact checked so take that with a grain of salt. Took the kids here from the kids museum (just a block away). Service was great. The Sicilian mule was excellent. The food was below par though. My beef tagiata was very dry but the salad was great. We came for dinner around 8pm Saturday night. Unfortunately they were out of a lot of things like gnocchi and chicken parm, and it took a while to get our food after ordering. What a dreamy experience! I took my very Italian stepmother to test the quality and got approval! We ordered the Cesar salad with salmon, calamari, vodka ravioli (with blacked shrimp - I wouldn't add this again), bolognese, tiramisu. Absolutely amazing and worth every single penny.. I will 100% recommend to any and everyone.. this is authentic Italian food . I've been to many Italian restaurants. This is the first Italian restaurant that I could genuinely tell that they don't use frozen food. Every other Italian restaurant does not gravy. The noodles were homemade and delicious tiramisu I will be going back for that every week now. I wish I got photos of our entrées. I got the chicken Parmesan 10 out of 10 all across the board. I was told by numerous people to check out Gravy as the food was amazing. Amazing was a stretch as the gnocchi that was recommended as well was super rich, thick, and heavy. There was a lack of flavor, but heavy on the sauce and cream. I think due to this, the flavor of the peppers and other seasonings were drowned out. Three stars overall for the service and the people. My server was very kind and helpful. When she asked if I liked the gnocchi and I was honest with her, she quickly asked me what else I wanted, asked no questions, and got me something else. I decided to order the salada sandwich, which was a grilled mushroom pattie topped with grilled tomatoes and spinach. It lacked a lot of flavor, but adding the Caesar dressing and parmessian cheese helped. The food does not live up to its name or reputation, and that is why I won't return. The gnocchi here is exceptional. If there's anything I come back for it'll be the gnocchi every time. Gravy is a cute Italian restaurant in downtown Raleigh. You will need to find street parking or a parking deck. We walked in on a Tuesday night and it was busy so I assume you'll need reservations on the weekends. Our waitress was attentive and very helpful so 5 stars for the service. I saw people rave about the free garlic knots they bring to the table but ours were small and rock hard. We told our waitress and she brought back a softer plate of them but they were still overdone and not how I saw them in other pictures on yelp. For appetizers we got the risotto balls and they were decent. The marinara could've been more flavorful. For entrees we got the gnocchi and shrimp alfredo. The alfredo is part of the lunch menu but you are able to request it for dinner with a protein. The gnocchi was a 10/10. The flavors, textures, peppers, mushrooms, and everything else in there just worked so nicely together. I already see myself coming back often just to get this specific dish because it was that good. The shrimp alfredo was iffy. The alfredo sauce is really seasoned and delicious and they give a great amount of it which make the dish creamy unlike other places who serve noodles with barely enough sauce. However- the noodles were overcooked. The first time it came out the noodles were so hard and dry and no amount of sauce could've covered it up. We had to send it back. Our waitress had them remake it and the noodles were softer but still quite thick and dry. I think if the noodles were different and softer it would've been a perfect dish because the alfredo was really good so that was unfortunate. Not sure if it was just a bad day. Our server gave us dessert to go for the inconvenience and we chose cheesecake that I gave to my mom later who said it was soooooo good. read more

About eight minute walk from the Marriott hotel this 50 seat Italian restaurant has a menu to suit most tastes. A nice assortment of Italian wines five or six by the glass all at reasonable prices. I got the eggplant Parmesan, which was fairly standard, I thought there was too much breading and couldn't tell if they used Parmesan at all inside , it seemed rather mushy to me . At least the tomato sauce seemed homemade , served along with it was a side of al dente spaghetti pasta, which seem to have the same sauce, that was kind of disappointing . The small Caesar salad before dinner was quite fresh and just right for a starter. The interior has five booths, eight tables and a long bar. there is Italian pop music wafting through the restaurant. Service was very prompt and friendly and helpful. I dropped in one evening while in the area. No real plans to come here, just famished. The service here is great. My waiter was Nate. Nate did a great job checking in often and keeping me hydrated anytime my glass of water was low. The restaurant is clean. Very comfortable seating here. The food was okay. I feel the best thing was the garlic knots and fettucini alfredo. My all-time favorite and go-to Italian - American style entree order is the chicken parmesan & fettuccini alfredo. I love the white and red sauce together. I guess this wasn't understood and the chicken parm wasn't marinated properly. I had to do the work of getting the red sauce over my chicken by asking for extra gravy. The chicken parmesan was flavored well. Overall: The calamari appetizer had a great flavor but the batter was not coated well and it fell off. I do feel calamari and the chicken was perhaps cooked too fast. I felt the inside of the chicken texture was weird for me which came from cooking too fast. The same for the risotto ball appetizer- - cooked too fast! These were Fried Arborio rice stuffed with fontina served over gravy (tomato sauce). The flavor was everything and I enjoyed that part but everything seemed to be cooked too fast. The rice stuffed in the balls wasn't piping hot like the external. Gravy didn't win my heart this time. I guess I may need to try one of the more popular dishes. My wife and I chose this restaurant as a pretty dinner before we attended the NC Symphony event at the Martin Marietta center for Performing Arts. We made a reservation online for 5 but due to traffic i had to call to move our reservation to 530. They had no problem accommodating. We arrived at 515 and was seated by 520. The wait staff was great, they were polite, professional and quick to our needs. We ordered a glass of Moscato and a Gravy Toddy (a restaurant special drink) they were both great. The complimentary Garlic knots were warm and ama,ing. We ordered a chicken parmigiana and a gnocchi with fried chicken. My wife had the gnocchi and was not too thrilled. The chicken was overcooked and had too much emphasis on the vegetables. She said it was a 5/10. My chicken parmigiana was ok, the chicken was fried a little too long and it needed more "gravy". We did not complain as we had a schedule to keep and the restaurant was busy. My wife gave the cheesecake a chance and she was extremely happy with it. We recommend it for a not so busy day of the week as well as it's pleasant atmosphere. We give stars for staff, atmosphere, and dessert but none for entrees. read more

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the triangle area. It is in an unsuspecting building in town. The ambiance on the inside has a modern and stylish vibe to it though. This time I ordered the spaghetti carbonara, to the same result. Their dishes balance layers of flavor well which gives each bite so much to enjoy. And I haven't even mentioned the amazing garlic knots that they bring out as table bread They are light and fluffy like pillows, and also covered in a delicious garlicky butter glaze. On top of that, service was good both times. On my first trip the waitress gave us fantastic descriptions of each menu item, but on the second visit our new server seemed pressed for time and rushed. Despite that, our orders were accurate and we didn't wait long. This place is more than an easy recommendation, it's a must try for people in Raleigh. read more

I got the chicken Parmesan and subbed the noodles for tagliatelle. My husband ordered the lasagna. The sauce on the chicken parm was so watery and pukey, that's what the aftertaste reminded me of. The lasagna is SMALL, and the bottom layer was burned. We couldn't eat the bottom "crust"... which isn't really supposed to be so crusty like that. Skipped dessert. If you're wanting Italian, you are much better off going to the Cheesecake Factory. If you want the downtown Raleigh experience, go to a more fun neighborhood. This is a small restaurant with mostly small tables. We made a reservation through OpenTable and were only able to get an early dinner for 5 at 4:15 pm on a Sunday. The service was good. Our waitress knew a lot about the menu and made recommendations. The garlic knots were delicious and free! We also got the arancini and charcuterie board. The charcuterie board was a bit small for the price I think, but I liked the arancini. I ordered the tagliatelle Bolognese, and I had plenty of leftovers for another meal. It was very good, but the bread and appetizers filled me up more than I thought they would. I had also ordered a drink, which was just ok. I couldn't taste the alcohol very much. I hate writing bad reviews and used to recommend Gravy but after not going for awhile we went recently and wow was it disappointing in every way. Our waitress was not just inattentive and unhelpful but full on rude. It seemed that us being there for dinner was a huge inconvenience for her. We asked a couple of questions (two to be exact) and she practically bit our heads off. We didn't get bread until I nicely asked about it after our entrees were served (probably 40 minutes after we had been seated.) It was cold and tasteless (odd since she said she had been waiting for it to come out of the oven.) Our entrees were both a let down. The carbonara was not very creamy and somehow lacked flavor and seasoning despite the main ingredients in carbonara being Parmesan and guanciale. My husband got their play on picatta and said it was tasteless. We went out for date night and both of us left hungry and disappointed on all fronts.
