We toured a few places and Sunshine house had always been on our list. My husband's siblings also attended sunshine house and they are in their late 20s now. Some places we had toured were below the bar and others very education focused. Sunshine house felt right, felt safe, and conveniently located/priced. We jumped at the opportunity to enroll. We are coming to the end of our Sunshine house journey after 2 years of smiles, learning, love and friendship. We will miss all the wonderful teachers, kids and families. I am so glad we made the right choice. Our girl has really found her voice, built her confidence and is ready to take on big kid school. Such a difference from the little girl who was afraid to approach other kids at the park and cried at drop offs the first couple of weeks. Our only regret is not utilizing pizza night earlier. It's such a cool experience for the kids and a nice break for the parents. We would definitely do it all again.

I was very satisfied with the interaction I had with Shelly. She was thorough and knowledgeable and explained how things worked and I felt like i got an education concerning the IRS. I think Martinez is lucky to have someone of her caliber here. She is an enrolled agent which is a curious title. I had done my taxes myself previously but am glad I stumbled into her office - a quite by accident - while downtown. It's qute a a site actually. She works with another accountant and it looks like an old fashioned busy office. I enjoyed speaking with her as well. She is full of knowledge and will advocate for you best she can. Recommended.

Shelley is not like this. She is detail-oriented, and she has a forensic mind. I brought in my initial paperwork, and we talked for a long while, to give her a picture of my tax life. I left with a hand-tailored list she gave me, points of additional information that would reduce my tax liability. Once I had everything, she took me through my return, illustrating how each adjustment impacted the total. All in all she spent quite a bit of time with me. I never felt rushed, this wasn't a mere transaction for her. I felt she was genuinely invested in my best interests. She does handles the situation for her clients as well, so you don't have to hire someone else. I will definitely be coming back next year!!

Guess what, the Director of Lanies Learning and the school associated didn't really care about my kid learning Math. Even though it was a bit sketchy how they charged me more because I won a district settlement and charged me the "district rate" vs. the cheaper family rate, although both come with the same work involved. I questioned that at our final meeting. So here I come on the first day all the way from Piedmont to Concord, and I barely get a "hello" and no official introduction to anyone or condolences. I had to ask for a little sit down before my kid went the tutor. Then when I picked him up, I peaked at where she was having the tutoring of multi-sensory tutoring, and he was on the floor w/ many desks all around him, squished. When I brought this up to the Director in an email. She was so offended, she tore up my check she said and would give me that lesson for free. She apparently didn't like me questioning what I saw or what I expected from a "round up" after a first session. I was so excited too, but it seemed it was about conforming and not asking too many questions, than really helping my child. We since got a very amazing tutor who is amazing and trained in the exactly what he needed. I was saddened that the Director of this center and the Core Academy that it is associated with would treat a widow this way. So disappointed that they acted in such a way, after they accepted my kid, then said "he wasn't a good fit," after I had a few questions about the first session. Then to make matters worse, they let him go and tore up my check as they let me know in an email. How cruel. I really hope they don't respond, but it did happen and nothing they say, will make it ok. accept an apology.

The instructors are fine. The business model is not…read more After enrolling my child, I've experienced a pattern of issues that other parents deserve to know about before signing anything. 1. Every plan is tied to a fixed-term contract -- no month-to-month option exists. The cancellation fee can be as high as $199, and this applies not just to cancellations but to any plan adjustment. In my case, simply wanting to reduce from twice-weekly to once-weekly sessions triggered the same $199 fee 2. Policy is opaque and every question becomes an upsell. I could not get a straight answer about adjusting session frequency without the center director pivoting to a new plan recommendation. When I asked about reducing cadence, I was told my situation was "unique" and had never come up before -- which is almost laughable for a tutoring center of this size. After multiple calls and text exchanges, here is what I was eventually told: -- I could do once-per-week, but only for 3 months, after which I'd be required to return to twice-weekly or pay the cancellation fee. -- Alternatively, I could continue paying for twice-weekly and simply choose to come only once a week. Neither of these is a real solution. And critically, none of this is documented in the enrollment agreement, it only came out through repeated follow-up. The entire structure of contracts, fees, and plan inflexibility is designed to lock families in, not to act in students' best interests as the center director claimed. 3. The tutors are mostly high school and college students. For what Mathnasium charges, instruction is delivered by young tutors with no formal teaching credentials. At this price point, a private tutor would give your child more personalized attention, genuine flexibility, and no contract. Bottom line for parents: Read every section of the contract before signing. Ask specifically what it costs to cancel, reduce sessions, or pause. Ask whether any policies exist that aren't in writing. Get every answer in writing before you commit.
