Walked in at 2:30 pm Friday, told it would be less than 30 min wait. One of 5 customers waiting, all 60+ men. Music for 20-somethings playing at earsplitting volume, apparently the choice of the three stylists. Two customers left, I believe because of the music. Two more left after sitting there over 30 min and not moving up the queue. At all times at least one of the three employees did not have a customer. At the 45 min mark, none of the three had customers, so they're talking, eating - oblivious to me and the other guy who came in after me. The sign-in screen shows 10 names waiting and I'm 2nd. Nothing to suggest that I'll be getting a haircut anytime soon. This is the Hyde Park branch on Paxton Ave, probably the most affluent neighborhood in Cincinnati so one would expect the tips to be substantial. It lost customers left and right today, and the people working here don't give a damn - I don't know how this branch stays in business. read more

I was excited to get layers and the lady who cut my hair did horrible. She cut it to short in the front and the layers were not cut right! I could have done better myself. I wanted something new with my hair and asked for a photo of Pinterest(looks like Cher's hair from clueless) and I got choppy layers and basically a bob cut! She carelessly cut my hair just left and right. She cut of a small knot on the top of my head for no reason! Like use different tools to brush it out because I certainly have no struggle at all. Now my haircut was the most basic you can get, just a trim. But the customer service was great. It was my first time at this location, but I knew to use their handy check-in online feature and could arrive with minimal waiting. I chose the Hyde Park location a few years ago because the stylists literally are above the cut. I used to go to a high end stylist at $35.00o plus tip for a haircut. Hyde Park never fails! So I visit about once a month. I sign in online and it's really easy. My pleasure to meet Mel! Refreshing. Rather than the general one sided conversation I asked Mel her favorite vacation. We had the most uplifting conversation. She cut my hair differently but cutting so far then blowing the cut hair off to be more accurate in her cut and style. Mel is THE BEST! I might be a rarity but I just don't take care of my hair. It's always been a nuisance; thick, frizzy, coarse. I used to pay hundreds of dollars getting it dyed and cut but lately, a quick chop at Great Clips is all I need. Never even realized this location is here but it's tucked in the corner by Kroger in HP Plaza. It was pretty busy and a lot of people were doing the online check in! I did not but I still got seated with a couple minutes. My stylist, Brittany, was very nice to talk to and did a good job. For a $14 hair cut, I basically got what I wanted. It's not overly amazing but I got some length taken off and thinned out. She talked me out of shorter side bangs but I wish I would've just done it anyways. YOLO, right? About a month ago I went into this location and asked for a single inch to be taken off my length... a simple trim to clean the dead ends, that's it. I have naturally thick, curly hair so this was fortunately not really noticeable to me, until today... I went into a salon to get a blow-out and the stylist stopped to point out this awful unevenness and asked if I was aware; i'vnever cared enough to leave a bad review, but this was enough to make me because I don't want someone else getting this same poor service. I go to Great Clips every so often when I'm on a bit of a budget and fully understand they're not a top tier salon, but if you don't know or don't care to do the bare minimum of service that's offered at your place of business- you're doing a disservice to everyone. read more

Since haircuts are subjective, this review is based on policy. I thought the concept of Great Clips was, convenience; kind of like a fast food haircut joint. No appointment. Multiple sylists. Get in. Get out. Bah-da-boom. Bah-da-bing. Well now, all of that has changed. If you are a smart phone user or computer addict, you can now check-in at Great Clips and put your name in the queue ahead of someone who is just about to open the front door to the building. So, be aware, that if you are a proud flip phone user, don't own a tablet (whatever that is), and can't stand the sight of your computer... that you will, in fact, be asked to wait for two people (who probably haven't even left their houses yet) to arrive, park, enter the building, get their haircuts and pay while you sit there flipping through Glamour Magazine. What's next? A Big Mac app? Thank you Great Clips, I took my $18 and bought some Wahl clippers a few doors down at Walgreens and now plan on saving $400-$500 annually on haircuts. Now I will say there are some people who can cut decent hair at this location but more often than not it's 50-50. I would say about half the time I got here people have a hard time when I tell what a fade is and how it involves only the hair on the side of my head. I have tried describing it better and bringing in pictures with me to help explain, but did that same thing today to no avail. I'm working out of town for months on the most high profile job I've ever had and thought since this store maintains a customer profile from visit to visit this would be a safe choice. I was so wrong. The stylist clearly had zero experience with short hair. It was so bad I went to a neighboring salon to try to salvage what was left, there was really nothing they could do. I'm a thrifty person (yay euphamisms) and so I never like to splurge on a haircut. Plus, I've gone with layers since 1999, and they're pretty hard to mess up. Or maybe that's because I go to Great Clips! Sometimes people ask me where I get my hair cut and they're shocked at the answer. I've been to this particular Great Clips about 3 times so far and they haven't failed me once. I have been to this great clips many times and gotten very good haircuts but my most recent experience was not as good. I had the employee Angela, she took 10 minutes to cut my hair and when I asked her to cut it a little shorter she rolled her eyes at me. My hair was very shaggy because a cut was way overdue but she tolerated that and delivered as good a haircut as I've ever had, taking longer than a typical cut takes.
