As soon as you go in, they'll offer you good sized samples from the bread board (which also has sweet items on it)! This is a family run business and they have kept up the quality of the food. The Dakota seeded bread and the sourdough bread are delicious! We got the hummus sandwich and the veggie sandwich - each came with a pickle and a bag of chips. The vegetables in the sandwich were fresh. They are priced well for the quality of food being served. The lady on the counter was super sweet and answered all our questions with a smile. I've been to Great Harvest a few times now and come away very impressed. The people working there are incredibly nice and helpful, and they make you want to enjoy the bread and other baked goods as much as (I assume) they do. Make sure to get a sample or two of some of the deliciousness - and don't be surprised if you want to buy extra. It's all so good. The cinnamon chip bread is my current favorite! They rotate through some items on a monthly basis, so it's worthwhile to check their site to see what's fresh and new. COVID-19 related: In my opinion they've done a great job making it feel 'safe'. They'll do curbside pickup if you call them to order. They also keep used and unused pens separate for cleaning as well as wiping down credit cards after they handle. The people they have making their bread needs to get up earlier in the morning. Because you can't get a loaf of bread sliced and put in a plastic bag until after noon (cooling off period). The American Rye can only be purchased on Friday's of every other month. How stupid is that. Yesterday (Thursday 12/29) I drove all the way from Palo to buy some bread and found out they were closed until sometime in January for some unknown reason. I can't tell you how many times I drove all the way there just to turn around and drive home empty-handed. They make some good bread if you can get some. Their business isn't run well. Great find tucked just off of Collins road opposite the mall. I've been eyeing this place for days while I've been in town and today was the day I made it for an early lunch. I ordered a huge peach praline scone. Amazing, delicious and perfect with their Great Harvest Coffee. I also ordered a tuna salad sandwich. I asked for a recommendation on the bread and was told the list popular was their Dakota bread. The bread is dense and loaded with seeds and texture. The sandwich was perfect. No overwhelming flavors of onion, garlic- just perfect mix of tuna, dressing, lettuce, tomato and onion. The coffee was fantastic. Flavorful-not too sting but not weak. My routine is to go to Great Harvest in the morning, get a sample and call it breakfast and then take a tuna fish sandwich home for lunch. Its a good system. Let me brag about the sandwich. First of all, gotta get the white bread. I know, I know, wheat and that Dakota bread are yummy too. I say go for the white with the tuna fish. Otherwise, the tuna might lose out to the bread. Let them load it with lettuce, tomato, and red onion, but then, ask for sliced cucumber and salt and pepper. Now we are talking. I'm telling you, this is the perfect tuna fish sandwich. Perfectly salty, soft with little crisp from the cukes, and creamy from the mayo dressing. I can never finish a whole sandwich, so I get to spread the joy over a whole afternoon.... Eating half at noon and the other half at 3. So good, trust me. Three more things that make this place a fine star: Coke products, endless sweets like cinnamon monkey bread and salted ginger cookies, and dinner rolls to die for (pre order them for holidays.) The best bread ever! Scones, bread pudding and a wide variety of bread loaves too. The blueberry cream cheese scones, mud bars and lemon blueberry bread pudding are absolutely worth the 50 min round trip weekly drive. The service here is amazing. Warm, friendly and welcoming. One day I got there at 2:59. They close at 3:00 on Sunday and the girls were just as nice and patient as always- I appreciate that kind of service. Gigantic samples too that don't disappoint. The bread here is TO DIE FOR! All of it. And if you're not sure which bread you'd like, they offer samples of pretty much all of their daily bread and pastries. The sampling is really a nice touch and is one of the highlights each time I visit as I love to try something new. I have yet to try/buy anything that wasn't exceptional. They grind their own wheat daily for the bread - and they offer several gluten-free options/specialty breads and rolls. Some may not realize that they also make delicious sandwiches, making it a great lunch spot, too. One of the other things I love about GHB is its rotating menu of specialty breads and baked goods. You can always see what the daily options are by checking out their website. And those daily specials sell out FAST! As do their seasonal favorites, such as the Stuffing Bread in November (if you haven't had this one, you are totally missing out!). This was my first visit. The employee s were very friendly and helpful. I had chicken salad on five grain high fiber bread. It was outstanding. There were many healthy choices - low carb bread to muffins, scones and brownies. They seem to have an interesting selection of teas and little tea gift gifts and packaged soups. Overpriced for sure. I got the the veggie sandwich and my husband got the turkey bacon avocado. We tried the apple scone, which was actually really good. The sandwiches were okay. The bread is homemade so that's nice, but it's sliced too thin for a sandwich so it falls apart almost instantly. It seems like a lot of people come in and get a sandwich to go. We stayed and ate, it just felt crowded but not because of the people, because of the table placements. We were the only ones seated during an active "lunch time" so they obviously don't need so many tables out. It would just make it more comfortable to eat at. read more

I used to think GHBC was just a place to buy a loaf of bread but it is way more! When you arrive they offer a sample of one of their bakery items. They also have a variety of sandwiches, salads and a daily soup. The owners are often present and the employees are all friendly, competent individuals. We stop here often to share a sandwich. Those of us who loved well made bread but lived in small cities or towns had to search for independent bakers within reasonable driving distance, travel to a large city to find a business like Breadsmiths, fly to Europe, or make our own good bread at home. Until recently, most local bread was that awful stuff you bought in supermarkets that tasted like styrofoam. We are now finally seeing a resurgence of high quality bread businesses in our area. Great Harvest Bread Co is one of them. Great Harvest makes the best bread I've had in decades. Mostly a bread bakery, the friendly staff offers different breads every week and a variety of sweet rolls, cookies, and other baked goods. They serve teas and make sandwiches and the only complaint I have is that the store is just too small. Many of the breads they bake are seasonal. You can expect a week of Christmas breads, Irish Soda Bread, and even the best Challah outside of New York during the baking year. And best all all, because the high quality wheat used in baking, all breads are shelve stable for more than a week without the use of preservatives. The bread stays fresh for a very very long time. This is the best bread I have ever tasted in my life. I got some sort of cinnamon apple bread and it was fantastic. When I had it in my car, my car smelled like the bread for days and when I got home, it was still warm. The customer service here is outstanding. It is so far the best bread in Iowa. I have visited this place two times and was very satisfied with bread quality and genuine recipes. The price for a loaf is around $7-8, but it's worth It. DELICIOUS. Everything I have had here was fantastic. The bread is always fresh and each day they bake a different type( along with their every day flavors). You can also order sandwiches and salads. They are big enough to share with a friend or keep to yourself. Their service is great too. In the summer they can be found downtown at the farmers market. You can always stop in and try a free sample of whatever they made fresh that day. Sometimes it is still warm from the oven. We never go home empty handed. read more

Fresh bread, unique flavors, clean ingredients, friendly and efficient service; I'd take that any day. Then you have the added value of the unique gift items they sell.
