If you need a clean place to sleep, very basic, outdated, and beds uncomfortable. Pet friendly was helpful. But at an average of $170 per night, thurs to sunday. Ridiculous. Ask for room away from restaurant/bar. You will hear karaoke until midnight. "Lakeview" rooms face back of bar where people, atvs, etc park and talk. Just skip and stay elsewhere. read more

HOLY horror. Pictures speak for themselves but don't do it justice. This place takes the cake for most disgusting, dirty, dumpy motel you'll ever find. (U can find dated motels w no updates, but they're clean....this was not 1 of those) We got in late, like midnight w our service dog. I was astonished at the giant stains ALL over the brown carpet. But pushed on. Being exhausted, we went to pass out immediately, but upon pulling covers back we noticed CHEERIOS in the bed. Then, crunch crunch crunch, my dogs eating SOMETHINg on the floor. I sequestered him to the bathroom 4 the night so he wouldnt EAT more b4 i found it. We put down our own comforter and slept on it but felt so dirty irregardless. We were awaken by the constant running of the toilet/shower. & once the sunlight hit the room, it was infested. Very small Bugs all over. I was mortified. Many "stains" were actually bugs!! (Bed bugs? Id say VERY LIKELY;if ur fear them/know their horror, dont stay here. We had our luggage fummigated b4 we took any home.. thats how certain we were-plus, we werent taking chances) My photos won't do it justice. They were in the cracks/crevices along the baseboards.there was even a hole literally leading OUTside from our room. (Rodent obviously) But the carpet stains, filth, food, hair, bugs, were just EVERYWHERE. My fiance goes laughing fearfully,: "omg DONT GO IN THE BATHROOM!" The bathroom was FULL OF HAIR. see photos. Is there ANY doubt the room was cleaned beforehand? No. It was so nasty, it's undescribable. Then, next to the microwave is a used toothpick. How much grosser can you get? A stick from someone's mouth sitting there. In between the microwave stand and whatever was MORE FOOD/FILTH, all just blatantly there on the floor. Shortly after my dog came in, he was sniffing the bed and found giant CHOCOLATE candy pieces (which he ate multiple of). Which lead 2 us leaving for an ER vet appt. This place should be shut down. At no time did my dog stop whimpering or pacing while in the room. He's only done this once b4 in NE when a room had bedbugs. Infestations of parasites trigger major anxiety in most anim By the grace of God, we weren't charged for our (what would've been 3) night stays. We left 1st thing in the AM, being there like 9hrs. This review solely goes to the extremely rude lady that runs the front desk (ponytail) didn't catch her name . First impressions are everything. The way she was rude to my parents with asking simple questions was hard to watch. Questioning why we are already bringing our luggage in when our room isn't ready simple because we don't want our things to get cold sitting in the car. There's no need to be rude. If she doesn't want to deal with people and their questions maybe she should consider a different job read more

Stayed here during a wedding. Very easy to find right off 51. The place is a bit outdated. The restroom smells a bit damp at times. Does have a good view of the lake. I went fishing at the lake on a paddle boat. Boy that lake is filled with fish. Definitely give it a try. Overall a decent place to stay. read more

We attended a wedding out here, this hotel (motel really) was close and cheap. The atrium were breakfast is served is beautiful. That's basically the end of this hotel's positives. Neither bed was clean. I always check for bed bugs in every place I stay (and you should, too. They are prevalent even in nice hotels and super easy to bring home). No sign of bugs but there was a ton of hair UNDER the fitted sheets. The sheets had grease spots on them, the blankets were stained and quite worn. The girl at the front desk was very sweet about changing our sheets - thank you! But I felt nervous about sleeping in a gross bed. The bathroom was cleanish, the sink is outside the bath in the room with you. So every time you wash your hands, you risk getting water all over the carpet. The towels also had a bunch of hair on them. As we left the next morning, we happened upon housekeeping. Three teenaged girls wearing crop tops and headphones. And that's how all the staff dressed - torn and dirty clothing, no uniform or sense of professionalism. You honestly could not tell who was staff unless they stated it. I have high standards for hotels, I'm sure lots of people find this place better than I did. But I really wouldn't want to stay here again. We called and made a reservation along with 5 other rooms & received a confirmation email. Upon arriving after driving 5 hrs I was told by Tammy at front desk that they did not have a reservation. I showed her my email confirmation and she said they didn't have reservation, they were full and I could drive and additional 35 miles to days inn to see if they had a room. I asked to speak with a manager and she indicated that she lived "in butt f*** Egypt" and I could speak with her in AM. They did nothing to rectify the situation. After staying in a room with another couple from our party we discovered mold on our room! read more

This place is exactly what you'd expect for around $80 a night in a sleepy northern Wisconsin town: It aint pretty. We arrived here late one night on a trip up to Ashland to see the Ice Caves. We hadn't planned in advance where we would stay, we just went and waited to see where we would get. This place was dated and dirty, but in the dead of winter it was also warm and cheap. There were dozens of snowmobile people at the attached bar when we arrived - they were loud, hootin' and hollerin' - but luckily our room was on the other side of the building so we didn't have any sound issues. However, our room was right above one of the exit doors and there was a light above the door that had one of those electric buzzing sounds that we got to listen to for most of the night. Overall, it isn't terrible if you're in a pinch. I wouldn't choose to go back, but in a situation I needed to I wouldn't refuse either. read more

Nice hotel in the northwoods. The place us a little old and dated, but it's clean and it's 100% Northwoods. The wolfs den has very good food, the fish tasted like it came out of the lake that morning. Staff was so efficient and friendly, thanks Carly. read more

Likely hasn't been updated since it was built. Hallway upstairs has a faint smell of urine. Lots of patched holes in the walls. I think the beds are original- not comfortable. Very small TV, lots of stains on the carpet, fridge is kind of 'grungy.' Not all the lights have bulbs in them. I've stayed here a few times previously and it's been clean and in good shape. The my just don't seem to be doing anything to it to freshen it up. It's old and stale. read more

I would give this DUMP a zero if I could. Bitter and hostile receptionist. She gave us a room on the second floor even though we asked for the first floor when the reservation was made, and as they don't have an elevator, my 80 year old Mom had to climb the stairs. No luggage cart so not only did we have to schlep our bags threw the parking lot we also had to haul them up a flight of stairs. No locks on the outside doors so ANYONE can access the hallways. Stained beds that were hard as Rocks. Pillows that were as flat as a piece of paper. Two towels in the bathroom. Questionable cleanliness. Worst hotel I have seen in 30 years and it cost $100 for one night. Don't stay here unless you have a recent tetanus shot!!! read more

Several issues! 1) One room key wouldn't work, and the other would take 15 to 20 seconds of wiggling it around in the lock to get it to work. The door to the room was split, as if someone had kicked it in. 2) The room was not the cleanest. Spots all over the carpet, and a few hairs on the toilet. 3) At the bar, they had a DJ on Friday night, and a Band on Saturday night. From the bar, our room was through a door, and about 150 feet down the hall (4 or 5 rooms away). The DJ, and the band, were so loud that it was like they were in our room. If we were making that much noise in our room, at any other hotel, they would have kicked us out. The music did't stop until 2:30am. Several times, I called the front desk, and was told that there was nothing they could do about it. The bar is owned bay the hotel, so I'm sure that they didn't want to do anything about it. 4) All night, there were loud, drunk conversations happening in the hall, just outside our room, I'm guessing they couldn't hear each other in the bar. 5) At midnight, Saturday night, they finally offered me a different room. Although it was still too close to the bar. When I declined that room, they offered us the only other room that was available (I'm guessing it was the honeymoon suite), which was well away from the bar. We accepted that room, and by 1:00am, Sunday morning, we had all of our stuff moved. 6) Sunday, at 7:00am, I talked to the manager, telling her that they shouldn't be charging me for either night, she told me that she needed to talk to the owner, but that they needed to charge us something. Ultimately, they refunded us 60% of what we paid. Bottom line, if you do decide to stay at this hotel, make sure you get a room that's FAR away from the bar. Or if you are into it, plan on sitting at the bar until 2:30am. They did refund us 60% of our money, so I rated them a 1, I would have rated them better if they refunded 100%. If this ever happens again, I'm calling the police, and letting them deal with it. read more

Lake view room was very clean. Room was big and good for those with a lot of gear (read snowmobilers). The day manager was not overly welcoming however, the night clerk was fantastic. Big parking lot and right on the trail! The lake view was beautiful. Appears they may rent peddle boats, row boats and canoe. Free wifi and well priced. read more

The best thing going for this hotel is that it is right on the ATV/Snowmobile trails. The morning staff answering the phone is rude. I asked if there was a pool and she said "no, anything else!". Uh, how about telling me there is a lovely hot tub on site??? I canceled a room and they canceled the wrong one. And the bartenders - wow, sour pusses! Saturday night bar tenders were pretty good BUT I ordered prime rib and an hour later was told none was left - even as they were boxing up a ton to go. Over a $100 bar tab and not once did the bartender offer a discount or drink on the house. The food was good but the staff leaves little to be desired. The excuse of COVID is over rated at this point. The only ladies I felt sorry for were housekeeping -2 ladies to clean that entire hotel! Remember people - you are in the service industry. Put a smile on your face for the 8 hours you are at work and suck it up! read more

I stayed at the Great Northern Hotel because it was recommended to me by a local lodge owner. The location and waterfront setting are ideal, but the room was not only dated but unclean. I stayed with my dog and paid extra for a room with stained carpet, a strong moldy odor in the bathroom, and a dirty toilet. read more

Hotel was fine. However, the bar staff was rude. Not only rude, but Saturday night we went to participate in karaoke. My son tried to request a song. The lady running the karaoke screamed and belittled him on the microphone because he didn't request a song by number. The karaoke lady was drunk, yelling for people to buy her shots and would not leave my son alone. We tried to complain to the bartender who told us the karaoke lady was the bar owner. So we left and tried to complain to hotel desk manager who also told us tough luck because the karaoke lady owns the hotel too and the staff were all related to her. What a joke, we will not be back and we will tell all our snowmobile buddies to avoid this place. read more
