Good luck getting customer service or anyone for that matter. I've been trying for 3 days to cancel my account with them. I've left two messages with their answering service and submitted 3 separate tickets. We were one of their first fiber customers in our neighborhood. We hosted a food truck in our driveway to help them promote their service and kept one of their signs on our lawns for months. Then our service tier was bumped up without notice with a 20 dollar jump in our monthly bill. Now we can't even get in contact with them to close our account. I'd love to advocate for a local business rather than one of the other giants, but they really aren't doing themselves any favors by being terrible. read more

This would have been a 5 star rating up until yesterday. For over 20 years I have been a customer (never once late on a payment) and been pleased with their service until yesterday 1/15/2025 when I got an email that they were discontinuing my service. Why....not because of anything I have done or failed to do but because they don't like the kind of wires that come to my house! They are DSL wires and they don't want any DSL customers any more so they are getting rid of all of us! Yup the whole lot of us booted out no matter how long or loyal while at the same time patting them selves on the back for installing internet in Vermont!!!! Apparently loyalty only goes one way with them. If they are the wrong kind of wires why didn't they fix them?? This is like fixing the airplanes engines while it's still flying and has passengers onboard. Why is it they can fix the wires in St Albans VT but not in South Berwick ME (right next door to them) Since this was also my telephone I am in a panic trying to find a telephone service and someone else for internet. read more

After using GWI for more than ten years, they closed out my residential email account without notifying me. When I contacted them, they said they mailed me a notice several times. When I asked them to read me the address they used, it was a Portland P.O. Box that I have never had nor used! They would not open the account for me to retrieve important emails/address book, saying they dumped everything. The customer service was testy, irritable, and rude. They admitted to wanting to close out webmail for residential users but were "grandfathering" those who signed up early with them. I would not recommend this company. I would not hire them for residential nor business. I would warn the City of South Portland who evidently contracted GWI. I really like to support local businesses but not when they take advantage of their customers. read more

I moved to Portland, ME two weeks ago. Right after moving here, I called this company based on recommendations from my neighbors and they could not get someone here for a FULL 10 days (even though they are a local company)! Within 3 days of installation, my internet was acting irregularly, and today (about 5 days later), it just broke. I called their customer service department and found out I had been given one of their oldest modem models. They said they could not come and replace it for another two days. While the people on the customer service line have been very friendly, this is the worst service I have ever received from any company. This shows a blatant disregard for for my time - I depend on this for my livelihood. I would expect much better service from a local company who bases its business on the recommendations of its clients. read more

I contracted with GWI a few years ago after recommendations from my networking group. The shortest contract was a 3 year contract but I decided to give them a try anyway. I have since sold my professional building and the business associated with the phone line is no longer active. However, GWI has continued to charge me monthly for a phone line that is no longer active. The complaint with the Better Business Bureau was not responded to, and I will continue to pay the monthly service fee until 7/2018! The contract in my opinion should be null and void! GWI sees things differently. BE CAREFUL WITH GWI! THEY ARE CROOKS! read more

I have been the owner of a business that grows 22% annually for 7 years now. We switched to GWI (great works internet) out of Biddeford, Maine roughly 3 years ago from Time Warner Cable, wishing to work with a local company. Now that we are with GWI, in my experience as a business owner I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service. The three reps I have spoken to on the phone were not business minded people, and certainly gave no mind to the fact that a local Maine business was making a simple request to consider our bill. WHen TWC showed up and offered us a plan that had faster internet and for 55/month instead of $120/month with GWI, I simply called GWI to see if there was anything they could do to perhaps consider what the competition was offering. I was told in a very blunt fashion that if we left GWI we would be charged $950.00. When I asked if I could speak with a manager I was told "no one is available." I was blown away because we are a local Maine business, and the reason for switching to GWI was to support another local Maine business. WOW! Once they get your business you are just a number to them. I cannot believe the way the rep spoke to me on the phone. It was actually confrontational! In the first instance, 1 year ago, another confrontational rep got on the phone. We were moving our business 1 mile down Route 1. The rep told me GWI "doesn't service that area, and you will be charged $1000 if you switch providers." I tried to speak with someone in management but was told the same thing, "no one is available."
