I hate leaving negative reviews, especially for a restaurant that has been my daughter's favorite place to eat for years, but this experience was so disappointing that I feel others should know. I placed an online order for my daughter's birthday dinner, which included two whole chicken meals with rice and fried zucchini, a side of hummus, a large Greek salad, and a side of tzatziki. When I arrived, my order was ready, and the employee told me that the chicken and salad were in one bag and the sides were in the other. I was almost home (a 40-minute drive) when I received a call telling me they had forgotten to give me the Greek salad. I had to turn around and drive all the way back to the restaurant to pick it up. What was most disappointing wasn't just the mistake, but how it was handled. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, and no attempt to make things right. Even a simple "We're sorry" or a small gesture of goodwill would have gone a long way, especially considering it was my daughter's birthday and all of our hot food was getting cold while I made another round trip. When I picked up the salad, I asked for the dressing and was told it had already been added. Unfortunately, when I got home and opened everything, the salad had no dressing at all. We were also given only one small container of ranch for two large orders of fried zucchini. The salad was basically a tray of plain lettuce, and without dressing it wasn't enjoyable. By the time we finally sat down to eat, almost 2 hours had passed since the food had been packed. The hot food was no longer hot, the order was incomplete, and it felt like there was very little care or attention given to getting it right. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What really disappointed me was the complete lack of customer service after the mistake was discovered. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my daughter, and instead it turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience. I used to stop by this location on my way home from work to pick up a snack before dinner and I always get zucchini and a strawberry shake. I've always been very satisfied with my food it always came out hot. The shake always tasted like real strawberries.! Until today, the zucchini came out, tasting very soggy and greasy. The ranch was hot.. and don't get me started on the strawberry shake. It taste very artificial. Not sure what's going on since the reopening but get it together. First off... it took about 23 minutes to get my order.. let that sink in. TWENTY THREE MINUTES. In a DRIVE THRU. I know a little something about drive thru wait times that restaurants/ food establishments normally try to stay under and wow this is unacceptable. The quality of the chicken specifically although it has good flavor has decreased dramatically. Placed order for chicken pita sandwich , got a sandwich. Which ok, whatever. But.. ohhhh myyy lanta talk about soggy. By the time this sandwich made a 15 minute ride home the bottom portion of the sandwich was falling apart and the bread was so wet. Gag. We've passed this place so many times coming in to SD from PHX. We always say we should try it sometime. We finally did so. I'm glad we did. We got the medium gyro salad and it was plenty for two people especially because we had to save a little room for the baklava! The salad was really good. The gyro meat was sliced thin, spiced well and tender. The dressing was light and though I'm not a fan of feta, this feta was good. Not strong nor overly salty. Very nice combination. Tomatoes, onion, cucumbers and olives were part of the salad as well. If you're near a location and hungry, try it. You'll be pleasantly satisfied. Newly renovated we were enticed to visit be a $5 off coupon. We peeked inside and enjoyed the view. Seems the renovations went really well but it was close to 8pm so we did drive through. Eric took our order and really impressed us. He helped us realize what we wanted didn't make sense for the 3 of us. We would up with a whole chicken dinner and for the sides we got large fries. Chicken was really tasty, full of flavor. Fries were the thick kind, almost steak fries. Nice crispy outside. All three of us enjoyed the meal which doesn't happen often! The Chicken sandwich was delicious especially since it was grilled chicken instead of fried, it was well seasoned, the burger was more on the bland side, but it definitely a big portion. would've appreciated a packet or two of mustard or ketchup on the side. Every time I go , it keeps getting worse and worse. The portions are getting smaller and the prices are rising. I went last night and got a chicken pita with no tomatoes. Normally the food is really good here but I must've caught them on a bad day because today was terrible. I stopped here on my way home yesterday (8-4-2025) and ordered a gyro plate and chicken snack dinner. When I got home the food was cold the fries were burnt with nothing inside just crunchy and air. I called the restaurant to let them know and see how they could rectify this error. The only option they gave me was to bring the food back and they will make a fresh one for me. 1. It's an inconvenience for me to have to drive all the way back to the restaurant. 2. Why wasn't my order made fresh the first time? 3. Since their recent renovation, their tzatziki sauce (which Was the best), now has more dill in it. It's ok but, NOT as good. Why change it? Tzatziki sauce was better without all that dill. The Greek salad, now has other lettuce along with Romain and iceberg. Has your salad dressing been adjusted too? It looks different, or maybe just didn't add enough vinegar, mostly all oil. No one can convince me that what is today referred to as the "fast casual" restaurant industry wasn't created in the 1970s, in the Washington, DC area, by Arab, Italian and Greek immigrants. There, in that time and place, America experienced the Golden Age of pizzerias, burger joints, sub shops and more. I know, because I was there, and what's more, I was the luckiest kid my friends knew, because my father (who arrived from Palestine in 1954) owned several such places. I'm happy to say that Greek Chicken reminds me of the old days. Its menu offers well-prepared versions of foods that I grew up eating in the restaurants of my youth, items that are easy to prep and produce with a minimum of expense. Marinaded and grilled chicken? Gyro, pita, feta? Baklava for dessert? Check, check and check. I can imagine how such foods might have made it onto the restaurant's menu, which was created by Greek Chicken's founders, Fotios and Maria Economou. They're likely versions of things remembered from the "Old Country", and wisely continued by their son (and current owner), Gregory. An interesting quirk that's shared by many such places, my Dad's included, is that they often sell a few items that seem out of place, that is, if you don't know that your cheesesteak or pizza is being made by a guy who grew up eating Middle Eastern food. Greek Chicken's menu is no exception, except that the anomaly is reversed: along with the Greek food you came in for, you can also order beer-battered fish, hamburgers and ice cream sundaes. Finally: My father always had partners, and though the title sounds fancy, I can promise you that none of those men was soft. Everyone who got paid by the business eventually did every task required to keep things running. Over time, I saw Dad and the others mop floors and wash dishes, receive deliveries, take orders at the counter, prep and cook food, and count and deposit money, and the work didn't get easier over time. My father sold his last restaurant when he was 46, and on his final day, he put in 15 hours. I deeply respect restaurant workers, but I've never for a minute wanted to work in that business, and I freely admit that Gregory Economou is a better man than me. read more
