Getting my bathroom renovated. Got these guys to come in and install the shower mixer etc. It took…read morethem like 4 visits to do a simple shower install. Day 1 - installed it quick as. But the plumber never checked his work, there's no hot water. Day 2 (second visit took a whole week - cause they're busy) - but try not having a shower for a whole week, luckily we have family close by. Fixed the hot water problem, but again plumber didn't check his work. The pressure on the shower was like dribbling out, and if you turn the mixer slightly to adjust the temperatures it goes completely cold. Day 3 - after I got on the phone with the plumber again saying what happen mate? He said he'll come back and fix it. How does that work - half pie job? Hoping I wouldn't notice the shower is not working? Day 4 - calls me up in the afternoon and say we tried everything by the books and the shower is still crap. I just couldn't help myself, it was working perfectly before the reno, and the other mixers in the same bathroom all works. So I told him go and get a more senior plumber. Because this was 330pm on a Friday, if they don't get it done today, we'll have to go without a shower for the whole weekend again. Finally got a working shower after all the back and forth... Such a pain to organise someone to be on site for them for repeated visit. Find another plumbing service these guys got way too big and now the workmanship and customer service suffers. They are definitely not do it right the first time motto.

A work colleague is getting his fencing done at the moment and has used them for this work, he's very satisfied. This company has been in business for over 65 years, so they know a thing or two about their timber products. Their yard has a huge range of different sizes and grades of wooden planks and posts for any project and all the advice to go with it. I usually leave these visits up to husband since I don't know much about timber yards, but this seems like a great place to start if you live local to Whenuapai.

My aversion to manual labour started at an early age, I realised that I don't like hard work. Work of the sweaty work kind, not the stuff writers, TV directors or marketing people call work. Work that low income people do where you use muscles and sweat. Think mining, tree chopping, building and basically anything where you need a white Hiace Toyota van. This doesn't mean I don't do it, I just don't like doing it, and I'm seldom prepared for the job at hand. You just can't do handy man work with a MAC and iPhone in tow. So, when I needed to sand down an old chest, the option of using my hands was out of the question. I knew of North Harbour Hire, so I stopped there after work to get a sander, and they were more than helpful. They even told me how to use it (Wonder if the little croc on my shirt was an indication that I wouldn't know what to do?) and it was much cheaper than buying my own.

But maybe it is complaint, as they are professionals? Yeah, right. Just to clarify, I am not involved directly in paying for the work, and this is in a commercial environment, but it shows their attitude towards the job and the client's premises. They also dinged a car in the carpark and acknowledged that but do not want to hear about it anymore, the poor guy needs to sort it out himself...

REALLY IMPRESSED Drip from ceiling identified Saturday…read moremorning ... suspect DVS system buckling under extreme humidity, but not so. NOW know plumbing's installed through the ceiling (relatively new address for us) AND it's a weekend (in December), so try to call in a plumber ASAP. Turns out you wait for Monday, as no phone response, other than message service, from 5 tried .. 'please email'. So I emailed 4 ... 3 responses .. speedy reply from 'Ideal Plumbing' ... 'couldn't get there til Thursday at best' .. OK from 'JG' .. 'wouldn't be til mid January'. But nearly instantaneous from 'Eagle' ... 'can have someone there Monday between 3/3:30' ... YES !! And at 3:10 pm, 'Sean' was knocking on our door. A pleasant young man who cheerfully scrambled into a confined ceiling space without preamble, and had the repair done within the hour .. and offered cautionary advice before leaving re the plumbing product. The bill .. $201.31 BRILLIANT !

What we really liked about the showroom at this Henderson Tile Warehouse was the sample areas of floor tiles. There is a big difference between looking at one tile and looking at a finished floor area of the tiles you are considering. This really helped us choose a few samples. The salespeople were really helpful here as well and encouraged us to take as long as we needed. They also have a back warehouse which has a few ranges on sale. These are discontinued lines of tiles or even excess stock but still in perfectly good condition. It is something to consider if you have a tight budget.
