No offer of coffee as they wanted the table and we were asked to move to the bar. The table had been booked in advance and was a way for 3 friends to meet and have a chat. I did not expect to be hurried or moved. All could have been solved by a sign put outside saying all tables for food were full. For thus reason I won't be going again despite the delicious food!

The layout of the pub clearly indicates an emphasis on food rather than booze, but upon my visit I found the menu rather disappointingly small and conventional. Because of the location and atmosphere it is busy with families and groups of (mostly) younger people. The "restaurant pitch" is further reinforced by the generous layout of the bars for drinks and food. The range of ales is, again, dominated by St. Austell Brewery, and they're kept nice and fresh. But the highlight of The Fort Inn is its spacious outside seating to the back, from which you get a splendid view of Towan Beach (and the Great Western Beach in the background). Unfortunately the furnishings could be more comfortable - it is a strain to sit at those big, raw tables the way they're constructed - you simply cannot stretch out your legs. I've seen these kinds of benches at other pubs, too - maybe it's their way of telling you not to linger. Atmosphere is friendly, clean, "open".

You can get Guinness - Duh! - but that's about it. When I asked for Kilkenny at the bar - it drew a blank. All the other beers here are English! That's very peculiar for a place that calls itself an "Irish Pub" - and in very big letters on the front! So, while the pub itself is plesant, quite stylish and very comfy with its darkened interior, lovers of Irish beer will be gravely disappointed. Some Irish spirits however are available. They instantly recognised that the ham had gone off and after my own research on the internet, I found a source also saying " If your meat is turning an unhealthy green, gray, or black colour that's a sure sign it's gone bad". Since they were too shy and polite to say anything, I told the barman/waiter about the problem. He then came to our table and offered another cut from the same piece of ham. Naturally, not wanting bad bellies, my mum and aunt refused. The barman then walked away and did not speak to us again during the whole time. We received no apology at all and were not offered anything else or even a partial refund. Not a word was said to us even as we left. This was our only meal out for our holiday here and we were really looking forward to it. We were mostly disappointed that we did not even receive an apology and there was no compassion at all. My best recommendation to all would be to AVOID this pub. However if you are happy with a bit of gone-off food and no compassion or understanding from the staff, this may be the pub for you! (Or perhaps not). I'm sure that this lack of compassion will be followed up via a comment from management, especially given the other comments given back on other customers' reviews.
