I agree with Justin Y on this place. This place is nothing special and definitely over priced for what you get. I mean their prices are pretty low but you really get less than what you pay for. I paid $12.00+ for a soup and a salad which is more than I normally pay but I figured "Hey, why not? I can splurge once in a while". I was SO disappointed in what I got. The soup was absolutely disgusting. No flavor whatsoever. I get it. Healthy right? That's why I got it. However, if you're gonna make a soup bland at least make it palatable and cook the lentils. Not to mention the tiny little cup it came in. $4.55 for water and a half a cup of dried lentils. Now the salad. Oops. Did I say salad? I mean the veggie delight sandwich. This "sandwich" turned out to be no more than a small jumbled mess of romain lettuce, a couple shreds of carrot, and maybe five pieces of cucumber and tomato. Top it off with a tiny tiny side of tahini dressing, because you have no other choice than to get tahini dressing. I looked at my sad lunch fare and contemplated what I should do. I couldn't justify the $12.00+ price tag for the mess of tasteless food that was thrown at me. I gave the soup a shot and it was hideous, and I didn't even need to try the salad to know that it was everything you wish a sandwich not to be. I took it back to the register and told the lady working I wanted a refund. I said I tried the soup and I politely said that it wasn't what I expecting. She didn't understand because she stated "I don't understand, it's just lentils and water. What else were you expecting?" Exactly! Then I told her that I ordered the veggie delight sandwich not a side salad and she just threw a wrapped pita on my tray. I politely asked for the refund and she made up some excuse to refund the soup but not the salad. Apparently she can take back the soup that I already tried but not the salad that I didn't even touch. It was a very disappointing experience. Won't visit ever again. read more

I don't understand how there hasn't been a negative review yet. I came here the other day seeing all the good reviews looking for some healthy food to eat, more specifically a salad. I ordered the Chicken Steamed Vegetables and Fresh Salad. The chicken was terrible, and I didn't really like the steamed veggies, and the salad. the salad was mediocre-bad, as the lettuce wasn't really fresh, it tasted dry, like it came right out of a bag, not washed. I cannot emphasize this enough, but the chicken was extremely dry, and bland. I had to pour the hot sauce over it to give it enough flavor. A waste of 8.95. Maybe there are other dishes that are good, but from my terrible experience here, I'm probably not going to come here again. read more

I stopped in on a whim late this afternoon. I was hungry, wanted something mostly healthy and nutritious and it had to be warm. I saw they served soup, so I ordered a small lentil and green pea soup. I was envisioning a soup that was almost like a puree in appearance. What I got was a soup that had a broth and lentil and peas beneath that broth. The flavor of the soup was bland BUT, I believe that that was purposely so you could season it to suit your own flavor palate. I did however have an issue with the softness of the beans. It was firm bordering on just a hair under-cooked. Usually if it's made properly, it's soft but firmly holds its shape. Because I was not expecting it to be that firm, when I chomped down it actually hurt my tooth a bit. So not sure, if that it the cook they normally do for this particular soup but I would have preferred it'd been a bit softer on the teeth. As for the service, the lady at the counter was very nice as was her other coworker. I noticed some regulars and they were immediately greeted like old friends. If I'm in the area, I'll stop in and try a different soup but I'm leaving it at 3 stars because the cook on the soup didn't seem completely right to me. read more

One of my favorite places to grab lunch when I was taking classes at Parsons. Its not totally vegan (some chicken appears on the menu and duh... yogurt) and I dont know if its even organic but its a great place for some good healthy food. I think its run by an old korean couple and some latino workers in the back. The steamed dumplings are amazing. I make mandu at home but I have never been able to make veggie ones like they do. I F-ing love kale and it features prominently in a pile on my plate as I walk to my seat barely containing myself. They have a nice assortment of deserts like cookies and brownies. Some of those are listed as vegan. Never tried the yogurt. I make that at home lol. I'm cheap so I never get the drinks but they seem to have a good range of them. They also have KIMCHIIII. Speaking of cheap, I think a plate will run around $8. You dont get a ton of food but I'm always satisfied. I think I just love this place cuz of the nice calming atmosphere (i often hear classical music playing) and good healthy food. my iphone fell in the toilet so i can't check in to places for a few more days until i suck it up and get the iphone4 but just got back from here. i've been getting dinner from here for a few years now, and it is always the number 6. one time, i accidentally got the pseudo number 6, number something else, but instead of brown rice, it was salad-yikes. good, but i was huuuungry after. number 6 :: sigh:: the number 6 is just grand. it reeks of healthy, but good and satisfying healthy, even after dousing the plate with the yummy tahini dressing that comes on the side. it is a large hole in the wall. as many reviewers have mentioned, don't let its name fool you-they also offer juice and smoothies and little dessert things (some vegan, decent goodies) and soup and sandwiches, i think, but i can't tell you too much about that because i always get the number 6. don't wear a tux. they don't take amex. who are those people on the wall? edit: how can i forget the man who runs the place? he is one of the sweetest people on this island. read more

HORRIBLE! As the Village Yogurt's biggest fan (Fantasy Combination plate!), I haven't minded the upgrade to Green Symphony until I was served dead animals chopped up into my brown rice. Watch it, fellow animal lovers. The owner could care less about serving chopped chicken to vegans and I had to extract an apology. Truly disappointed because I've been a fan for two decades when the walls were lined with B&W publicity shots from its patrons. My hubby and I stopped here before heading back to NJ after a yoga class and museum trip. We only got smoothies and a couple snack breads, but the quality and taste was spot on and both tasted and felt so nourishing. They had a super wide variety of vegan goods, juices, smoothies, other nosh and convenience items and the workers were helpful and friendly. I cant believe that more people aren't enamored with this place! Its simple, fast and healthy. I used to walk by it every day on my way to and from the train, yet one day I stepped in and decided to give it a try. Now I am kicking myself that I haven't gone there sooner! The owners are amazingly nice and the food is simple yet satisfying. Not like some other healthy options you feel filled after eating here. The only thing is the chicken can be dry, but honestly its steamed chicken, and really the dumplings are the thing to go for. I recommend also trying the juice bar. Healthy and cheap! Plain and simple. Homemade dumplings, kimchi, brown rice, fresh beans, fresh steamed vegetables on a heaping paper plate with ground sesame! Delicious!! One of the best secrets in NYC! I love the owners, always friendly, and the staff is quite friendly too! After yoga I go here for a delicious, healthy meal that makes my day complete. I wish you guys had one uptown! My favorites: Bean fantasy (steam array of mixed vegetables with some of the freshest tofu I've ever eaten, fresh beans, and brown rice), and grab a whole wheat crust pecan bar. They are amazing! Came in hear craving an acai bowl. They were super nice and service was quick :) However I asked my bowl to mixed with soy milk instead of apple juice, yet when I tasted the bowl it was obvious there was apple juice in it. On top of that the smoothie part of the bowl wasn't fully mixed so there was a large chunk of frozen acai in the liquid. This place, now called Green Fusion, has the same menu as it did when it was Village Yogurt, but is no longer run by the Kim family, which is a shame, because they were awesome. The new owners really changed the place -- they made the tables smaller and closer together, painted it green and put up a million shelves, and angled the counter so you can't see the pass-through window, and you can't wave hi to Alberto in the kitchen (if he's even there anymore). Also, the new cashiers are snotty and indifferent. The food is the same, but somehow it doesn't taste as good as it did when it was an unlikely-looking dive with a bunch of random headshots on the wall. read more

I made my first trip to this gem today for what was the perfect meal. I got the platter that comes with the steamed dumplings, steamed veggies and brown rice. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, I will definitely be back! And I definitely was not disappointed in the portion for the price. I'm so happy to have this place close by my office so that I can always depend on a place for a healthy meal. Just finished a very delicious, healthy avocado and egg sandwich. As advertised - lettuce, cukes, tomatoes, sprouts, hard-boiled egg, avocado, all stuffed into a whole wheat pita, with tahini dressing on the side. My only complaint is the way they construct this sandwich - lettuce on the bottom, then cukes/toms, then egg/avo, then sprouts. There's no way to eat it so that you get some of all of it at the same time without complete dis-assembly. Fix that and this would be a 5 star. Will be back for more! read more
