This has been my favorite sushi place in Bangor that I have found so far. I go here often for the service, the ambiance, and the food. As a California girl, I've had all types of quality sushi from the cheap and sad sushi to bank-breaking omakase. Green Tea is at a good comfort level of good sushi at a medium price range. Not mind-blowing sushi like I've had at other places but still very good for the middle of Maine. I've come here to dine with 1 person but have also come to dine with 12 people. Green tea is very good at accommodating your party and taking early reservations for large parties. I always especially love the private rooms for small groups where you can close the door, and, whenever you need the waiter/waitress, you flip the light switch and the red lantern outside your door lights up alerting the staff that you request their services. The restaurant tries to stay true with all Japanese decor. I love the selection they have for their menu. There's something for everyone. Even a large drink menu. If you order any of the boat sushis, you'll get this beautiful presentation of your sushi on their large bamboo boats. Or, if you ordered enough sushi rolls, they might put it on a boat anyway! I've also never found a dessert I didn't like. read more

TERRIBLE FOOD POISONING!!! My daughter ate the Rainbow Roll yesterday and in a couple of hours became violently ill- non stop vomiting. I called the restaurant first thing when they opened to inform them (obviously there was a bad batch of fish) and the manager/owner was extremely rude and didn't take any responsibility. She said "that's a risk when you eat raw fish"! She also said to take her to the hospital & provide documentation so they can consult with their attorney. WOW. I was hoping they'd look into their current batch of fish or throw it out or have some concern for their customers at the very least. My only visit (so far) was a good experience. The place is clean, smells fresh and is perfectly lit. The food ordered was good, a little on the speedy slide but certainly did nbot lack in flavor at all. Rather liked it and they are on my list of places to visit again as I eat my way through the area. Great sushi! read more

The smell as you walk in is strange. If you use the restroom, it gets worse as you walk towards the ladies room, which is just outside of the kitchen. It smells fishy and musty. The bathroom hits you with a blast of cinnamon from the basket of potpourri on the pretty sink. The floor is disgusting. It has gross black buildup of grime and nastiness in the grout joints and corners. The old broken heat elements are rusted and disjointed. I ordered an avocado roll and a specialty roll called The Maine Roll with spicy lobster, avocado, cucumber sticks, imitation crab and spicy mayo with the crunchies on top. It was massive! I had to eat it in three to four bites for each piece. All in all good food! Food was good, but atmosphere is where the dings come in- it's dirty. It's uncomfortable because it smells strange. Order was messed up and when called to tell them they were rude and challenging over the phone, definitely not worth it, just go to Yoshi!

My family is new to the area and we happened upon this place and decided to give it a try. We were a little confused on where the entrance was but were greeted as soon as we topped the stairs. We asked to sit at one of the private tables (my most favorite part!) and enjoyed being able to have conversation without much interruption. As a transplant from Southern California to Maine we were desperate to find a good sushi spot. This restaurant is beautiful inside and the sushi is top notch. Every piece of sushi, sashimi and roll I have tried has been delicious (try the mermaid roll!!). We like to order the bento boxes for a good mix of foods. I'm so bummed! I used to love this place - the ambience was matched by the food - I guess that was a few years ago. Went in tonight, Sunday about 6:30. The place was empty. Someone mentioned the unappetizing smell as you find which door to enter through. I stood at the hostess stand after the door chime sounded and looked at a menu to order takeout. No one came over so I went to "pickup" by the bar and ordered. The first thing I picked from the appetizer menu - the sweet staff person said "oh people don't order that often I can't find it..." and asked another for help. "Ah, we don't serve that anymore." Ok... I ordered miso soup (good), crab Rangoon (good) snd I got the weirdest fresh spring rolls I have ever had. I know in Maine one needs to adjust expectations. But if you look up recipe for fresh rolls, you'd come up with something fresh-roll-like. These were like a diner garden salad in a rice paper wrap. A clump of carrot, cucumber, and iceberg lettuce, plus really slimy white chickenish substance and a mushy spot of avocado. Aaaand cut into small sections so you can't pick any of it up! Truly strange. I got a weird feeling about the seaweed salad and bailed on it - I have a morning flight and am worried about food poisoning. :( not the experience you want after throwing down $30 for a light dinner. read more

My sister and I went here to have some quality time last week and the food was great! We loved that they sat us in a booth that had a sliding door, as my sisters 8 month old daughter was sleeping and it made it more quiet and private for us! :) My only downside was I was looking to get the shrimp tempura, and like to dip my tempura in teriyaki sauce. However when I asked if I could get a small cup I was told it was $3 extra! I asked if there was anything that could be done as I wouldn't be needing the sauce that it came with, and she came back saying she spoke to her manager and that there was nothing that could be done. I think it's kind of ridiculous to charge $3 for a small cup of teriyaki, when your appitizer for Tempura was $7. read more

My sister and our mother simply love going to Green Tea. Whenever they visit, this is usually where we end up! They have a huge menu and you won't be disappointed with their selections. The service was very nice. I like the private rooms on the right when you first walk on - though I've never been in one, haha!! That would be good for a small group or a family. Just moved to the area temporarily so on my mission to find some Asian food, I came here. I ordered a mini udon soup that comes with a piece of fried shrimp. The noodles were chewy, soup was nice and warm. It had a slightly acidic taste, but overall pretty good. I also ordered pork katsu set. I comes with two pork katsu cutlets, iceberg lettuce (I wish it was shredded cabbage), a decent amount of tonkatsu sauce and a bowl of rice. All the employees were wearing masks and super nice. The service (or lack thereof) was shocking. My partner and I visited Green Tea this past weekend, after we were seated we were told by our hostess that someone would be around shortly to get our drink orders. 5...10...15... nearly 20 minutes goes by and nobody has come up to take our drinks or anything, meanwhile I am staring at 4 servers just standing at the end of the bar chatting with each other. We ended up getting up and leaving because nobody would take our orders. I will not be bringing my business back to Green Tea. Best sushi in Bangor hands down, best I've had in the state. The fish was very fresh and everything was perfectly prepared. When I saw the great deal for their lunch specials I was definitely expecting disappointment but OH BOY was I wrong. I'm from Los Angeles, I have really high standards for sushi and this is comparable to any of my favorite sushi spots back home. You can tell the chefs really know what they're doing because of how perfectly cooked and tender the eel is. The tempura appetizer we had was wonderful as well. A lot of places tend to make it kind of greasy but theirs is wonderfully light and crisp. Our server was attentive and very pleasant, service was great. I don't get on yelp very often but this was the nicest lunch out that I've had in a very long time. Granted cooked rolls are warm, the rice shouldn't have been so waterlogged. Even the ginger, which I never eat, was almost...fake? I have never had such bland sushi. We just finished dinner and it was great! We were greeted as we walked in the door and shown immediately to a table. Our waiter came immediately and took our drink order as we reviewed the menu. They have a great variety of options - Japanese, Chinese, sushi as well as a few options for those who don't like those options. We settled on sushi and were not disappointed. We picked something with shrimp, with lobster and calamari and they were fresh and very tasty. It was plenty of food for us. The restaurant is large with many booths as well as some "private" booths. Well, now former regular here. Just got food poisoning yesterday, no doubt it's their food as evidenced by others sharing my meal also getting sick. I didn't get it somewhere else. Being in the pandemic, that now means COVID tests and missed work due to protocol. I informed the manager, Joyce, who offered no recompense. She immediately began with "maybe you/your stomach just can't handle sushi" like I haven't been eating it since 2007. Then she said she'd refund my money -- if I got a doctor's note that stated definitively that Green Tea made me sick. Now I'm a man of science, so I am well aware that since I did not decide to scoop a cup of evidence from the toilet to send to a lab, I wasn't going to get my doc to do that. So, chargeback it is: and then she starts saying that's illegal and calling me a thief. She thinks I'm stealing from her by getting my money back for food that didn't even fulfill its main purpose: nourishment that stays in the stomach rather than exiting northward. I left the tip portion of the bill alone. Service was great, very attentive. Oh, and the sushi's presentation was wonderful. read more

OK this review is long overdue I've been coming here for years and as with most restaurants they can slip up here in there. I must say even through the Covid pandemic the food has been top shelf. Fresh fish inspired special rolls always always meets or exceeds expectations. This is a lot to say for a fish restaurant in the middle of Maine as I've been to a lot of sushi places all over the country and these people know what they're doing. Three of us ate here tonight because it was recommended by a family member. The waitstaff was polite. Two of the 3 of us were served cold food. The coconut shrimp was the only main dish that came out HOT. Our shrimp with mixed vegetables and beef with broccoli weren't even room temperature. The rice was old, the salad was 5 pieces of bagged lettuce, the steamed dumplings were out of a bag and the egg roll was luke warm at best. We told the waitress and she brought it back. The manager brought out 2 new replacement dishes and said "this was just made so everything is hot." Nope! Nothing on either of our dinners were hot. So a complaint was put into the manager again to which she replied "how hot do you want it.? Ummm really? Hot!! Will NOT return. read more

I don't even know where to start. Food is terrible, frozen breaded chicken, sour fish, soggy sushi rice, and VERY old fried rice. Servsafe does not exist here, chefs leave fish out in the open for hours, the edges of the floor are black, it smells like rotting things, nobody sweeps underneath tables, there is literal BLACK MOLD ON CURTAINS BY TAKEOUT!! I had high hopes for this place, but after my recent experience i'm extremely disappointed. I will never come eat here again. Stay far away. read more

Everything was fantastic. Bento box, all the sushi, flavorful, super fresh, fast and gracious service. My dog's service vest had been stolen and I called to make sure we could bring him, even without it. No problem. This is the type of dining experience I look so forward to, but rarely get. After feeling unwell from my sushi, I called and talked to Tia, the manager, and she wanted a doctors note in order for me to get my $12 refund. I sent her pictures, instead of a doctors note, because legally they cannot ask for one! She then said there was nothing wrong. Even after you can clearly see, it's ridiculously made. I honestly can't believe a business would be so unprofessional...especially after working in the restaurant business my whole life. Clearly they are more set on keeping their money than handling customers the way they should. Honestly Asian food in this state is so low quality but I'm surprised they are so desperate for money after I emailed my pics they gave me store credit! I've already had one previous bad experience here and I shouldn't have given them my money! I'm from the pacific northwest and this would never pass as decent sushi. Two stars for the $18.50 dried out duck. When I called to complain they said I didn't know what Asian duck was. Fools. I work in Boston's Chinatown I know good Asian duck. This wasn't even a poor imitation. In any case the food is usually very good but the rudeness of management regarding my complaint and the high price of the item (it's not like it was $8 chow mein) that was inedible leaves me with a real bad taste.
