Convenient potting media purchase. Pay the register, drive around to the loading zone and they load the bags into your car for you. I love to come here during bareroot season (Jan-March). They carry a huge variety of tree, berries, grapes, and although the plants cost more than your big box store but there is a huge difference in quality. Large selection of roses in late May, early June. It's fun to shop here. Some of the nursery has uneven ground or loose gravel so be mindful. Green Thumb always has amazing plants! The quality of plant is far superior to anything you'll get at a large commercial garden center store. We've had some of our plants from them in our yard for years, and they flourish! The variety, plus all the other cool garden decor and items you can think of, make this place a fan favorite of mine since I was a little kid (and I'm almost 40). The quality of the plants and the value that comes with them definitely makes the trip work it to come out and see what they have. This nursery is incredible!! My friend and I went here last week and we'll definitely be back! It's so spacious and they have such a wide variety of plants and garden needs. Went back after almost a year--same experience with customer service being just ok compared to other nurseries I have visited. Nobody asked if I needed help, no professional friendly vibe, and folks come off as unhappy to be working there --not the best vibe for my liking. I do, however, have to mention the woman at the checkout line was helpful and answered my questions about their plant warranty. Prices seem to be standard for this industry. Green Thumb has several locations, but the one in San Marcos is our favorite. It's huge, with everything and anything a home gardener could want, from seeds to seedlings, vegetables to trees, fertilizers to watering cans, pots and fountains, and attractive garden art. The parking lot is large, the selection of goods is bountiful, and the staff is helpful. Prices range through all levels, depending upon the plants one is seeking. This nursery has a huge selection of flowers, trees, succulents, pots especially pots all sizes, fountains and bird baths, etc. The staff is very helpful if you tell them what you are looking for or show them photos of plants you want. I have been here many times. This week I bought some coneflowers, succulents and a holly tree. They have an impressive amount of fruit trees for fall. But they didn't have elderberry, mulberry, blackberry at this time. Maybe those are hard to get. I love the variety from Monrovia nursery, top notch stuff. I did also buy some horticultural sand to add to my succulent soil. I'm not impressed with the cactus and succulent soil by E stone as I have bought better one from Amazon that had pumice, akadama, rocks etc as the E stone succulent soil has too much organic matter and bark, too soggy. read more

This nursery came highly recommended, and I see why. It has everything one needs to tend to a garden, a plant, flowerbed, etc. Not only do they have plants and flowers, but they have every pot you can imagine, every soil you need, and all the accessories that go along. My only complaint is that they are on the pricier side. That said, you usually get what you pay for. I asked if I could have a small amount of the green trimming off the Christmas trees that they throw away as trash. I was literally staring at a small piece that would clearly be thrown away. They were so rude and unhelpful and said that I would have to buy it. Home depot and Lowe's give this away for free. I literally just needed one small branch that would be thrown away anyways. I had lived in San Marcos for many years. Still own a home there. Just down the street from Green Thumb Nursery. I recently retired and since moved out of state. I had been searching the perfect holiday gift I knew had been available at Green Thumb Nursery in the past. So I decided to reach out and inquire as to their current available inventory. Much to my delight, they did still carry what I was looking for and were willing to deliver it locally. I called and made all of the arrangements with their ever so helpful MOD Jeff. He was gracious enough to use his own phone to snap some pictures for me. I chose exactly the item I wanted and he was able to have it delivered the same day. The 4 stars are for the great selection of plants. We've been customers for a few years and at least 1/3 of the plants in our yard and vegetable garden come from Green Thumb. The only reason this isn't a five star review is because the customer service sucks. Some of the staff working around the plants are semi-helpful, but pretty much everyone acts as if you're interrupting their personal time. Those checking you out are particularly unhelpful and in a perpetual state of being in a bad mood. The staff might want to visit Armstrong in Carlsbad at the Flower Fields. Their selection is limited, but the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and they actually smile at you. read more

This is a large nursery in San Marcos. There are a lot of plants, large variety but the prices are higher than other nurseries. The greenhouse is nice. Great selection of vegetable starts. Other than the high prices, the biggest problem is the customer service. A new cashier had a rude attitude and was cutting her eyes at me (young skinny hispanic girl). The hateful attitude from the staff discourages me from spending money here, because we don't want to deal with the hate. read more

This is an excellent nursery! It has a wide variety of plants, pots, fountains, garden art, seeds, soil and amendments, and even a few tools. The only negative issue with Green Thumb Nursery is that it's expensive. If money is no object you'll find some of the best garden decor and plants in the area. Budget minded gardeners will drive to Fallbrook and shop the various small nurseries and get about 50% off most items found here. Of course this requires legwork and driving. Even if you're not planning on buying anything here, this is still a fun place to visit, expecially with kids. - Expensive but they might have that hard to find plant or tree that you've been looking for. - They sell hard to find ocotillo plants (three varieties). - Pottery is organized by color. - Fruit trees all had fruit growing on them, not just flowers. - Nowhere as expensive as Moon Valley Nursery. read more

You should be ashamed! Went to purchase a standard ice plant weed killer. This product is always between $20 and $25. Today at checkout it was $59.99!! I did a quick search and saw that Lowe's has the same item, same Lot number for $20.99. This is absolute price gouging by Green Thumb. This product is popular now due to all the rain so they jacked up the price. This is completely unacceptable. Never shopping here again. My once a week trips are over. read more

I cannot say enough good about this nursery. I have used many nurseries over many years. This is the best of all of them. They have a great selection of standard plants one would expect to find, as well as a lot of exotic stuff, too. Also available is a great selection of organic and non-organic fertilizers and gardening supplies, all at fair prices. However, best of all about Green Thumb (in my humble opinion) is the expert knowledge and advice that I have not found at any of the other nurseries I have used. We visited this location during a wedding weekend in Fallbrook. It's huge! Great collection of houseplants and outdoor pots. My favorite area was the greenhouse with the rare houseplants. My kids enjoyed the holiday decor as well. There was a carriage that looked like the pumpkin carriage in Cinderella! The staff was really sweet and asked if I had any questions. The selection of pots and planters are very decent. There are some nice garden statues too. Pricing is average. Service is bad. I bought a $30 small ceramic pot and the cashier didn't offer to wrap it or a plastic bag to carry it home. When I asked for some papers to wrap it, she handed me a small bundle of plastic to wrap the thing myself. And when I asked for a plastic bag to carry it home, she handed me a plastic bag without a word. There is a serious lack of manner and customer service here, especially since I can take my business to any of the dozens nursery nearby. Have been a loyal customer since I moved to Oceanside. This place should seriously think through how they treat customers. I wanted to purchase a pink jasmine today and asked an employee if they have smaller sizes available on site. The employee pointed me to the information counter that has no one attend to customers. I waited for about 10 mins and no one stopped by, so I decided to leave without making the purchase. What pissed me further is when I go to the exit, I saw the employee who pointed me to the no-shown counter is explaining to a Caucasian customer about the plant he chosen. I'm Asian btw, and I felt being looked down today at a local nursery that I liked. Will not comeback ever. read more

I love, love, love this local nursery - their selection of plants, as well as pots and knick knacks. I even found a most unique hand ring for feeding hummingbirds, which my daughter-in-law loved!!! My only bit of constructive criticism would be in the way one particular woman on staff deals with questions about bugs and sprays. Twice I've worked with the same woman, only to find her a bit condescending and sarcastic.
