Went in for an eyebrow & upper lip wax. The girl that did the service had NO idea what she was doing. She didn't apply the wax correctly AT ALL. She fucked up my eyebrows & didn't even do the service correct. After you "wax" you then proceed to take out the little hairs that are left, she didn't do that. I decided to leave, so unsatisfied with everything and on top of that the girl wanted me to leave a tip?!?!??!!!! I called for a last minute wax. If it's your first time you get the wax for $30, which is a great price in Manhattan! They don't use hard wax, so it was a little more painful than EWC. It was quick (about 10 min or less). Overall it was a really pleasant experience. This is truly a slippery slope..this whole beauty-pampering culture in New York City is not serving my wallet well... It always begins like this. You first start with the light stuff, the occasional Mani-Pedis,the 30 minute foot rubs, then you start progressing to the 60 minute back massages, the Go-all-out day spas and finally arriving the mecca of all, the Luxurious Facials. Yep, the kind where they lather expensive european skincare products on you while you listen to zen music and melt into pure bliss. I don't normally go for 100 dollar facials, but thanks to Groupon I got an awesome deal. Perhaps I shouldn't be thanking Groupon so soon for it has opened the Pandora Box of facials for me, but I must say I never knew facials felt so freaking amazing. So Two-Thousand and late on this one but hey better late than never i suppose Nicole took great care of me and carefully explained my skin type and all the products they were using on me. I love to be informed so kudos to her for being patient in explaining everything in great detail. Ambience: Very clean and calming but its not the kind of place with fancy marble floors and furniture. Pretty minimalistic and also note that it's tucked inside a Hair Salon. I came here with a Groupon for a Brazilian. The one I got here was the least painful one I have ever gotten, and I believe it is because of their methods and quality of wax. Win was very professional and quick. The rooms were small, and you could hear the person in the room next door. It did not feel grimy or anything, but the rooms were narrow and full of waxing paraphernalia. At the end I used a credit card to pay but handed the woman cash for her tip. she immediately started yelling at me , telling me I should tip her more. saying " this is America, you need to tip me more" I was so offended by her attitude and the way she was demanding more money. Came here after buying a groupon for a Brazilian wax. I have never had one before so I was nervous about my first time. The place is very low key, a bit cramped. Nevertheless the ladies were kind and prompt. I arrived an hour early and was taken to the room about 15 minutes after I arrived. The process was painless and quick. Overall, she did a good job, there are a few little random hairs and a tiny bit of wax but I don't know if that is a common part of waxing. The only weird thing was that because there are only two rooms, right next to each other, you can hear what is going on in the next room. I was told to try and be quiet because I think the woman in the next room was receiving a relaxing facial or massage or something. Overall it was a good experience. I could see that she really cared about my skin and informed me on as much as she could, as to what she thinks i need to use. This place is clean and modern. The staff is professional and friendly. I usually have a Brazilian wax done here and my go to girl is Wendy. She is quick, efficient and gentle. I have VERY sensitive skin and cannot get waxed in the same spot twice because it causes injury. Wendy is super careful and makes sure this doesn't happen, but is quick enough that the entire process feels like a breeze. Really disappointing experience, laughable really. Bought two facials and two massages for BF and myself for Xmas present on gilt.com. Call to make appointment and get answering machine that tells me to book online. Go online and you can only book one appointment at a time - not simultaneous appointments. Call back and get answering machine again. Leave a message. No call back. Call and leave another message (I'm not calling at weird times here people). No call back. Call and leave 3rd message. It's been 2 weeks since my first call. No call back. Call gilt.com and ask them to research. Finally I get a call back from Green Zen. Booked both appointments (not complicated, but took 25 minutes to do this on the phone). We show up and the elevator was broken. We had the choice to walk up 7 flights of stairs or wait for the freight elevator which was in another building. Fine, s*$! happens. We arrive and are shocked to see that this place resides in the back of a hair salon. Fine - no problem. We are asked to complete paperwork, standard - but then forgotten about for 40 minutes. A woman who didn't speak english came to us and said that the two-person room was very small. Why would we care? Very weird. We insisted on this room. Waited another 15 minutes. I could have killed another martini at Gramercy Tavern - its been 45 freaking minutes. Get into the room and have a 'massage'. They literally took scalding hot rocks and wiped them over our bodies. There wasn't even an ounce of pressure - no exaggeration. I asked 3 times for pressure and received nothing more. The masseuse disappeared for 13 minutes - almost a quarter of the massage time - to get more rocks. Infuriating. Both boyfriend and my experiences were identical so this wasn't a masseuse specific issue. 'Maybe the facial will be better' I tell myself so as not to lose it. I was so embarassed I gave this as a gift. I get up to use the bathroom before the facial and have to leave the spa and go into the hair salon to do this. With a towel. The 'facial' begins and here is what I am supposed to get: *One 60-minute Green Rejuvenation Facial *Crystal Bright eye treatment *Organic peel *Shoulder massage The facial was actually 45 minutes, minus a 20 minute period when the facialist left the room and abandoned me. So I got 25 minutes of facial cleansing. That is it - no mask, no peel, no 'bright eye treatment', no extractions!!!! - just freaking cleansing over and over and over again. Oh, and the shoulder massage that I am supposed to finally get and praying for during the fake massage, never happened. Not even close. Not even a brush of the hand on the shoulders. The funny part? The woman is trying to sell me a package of their crap facials as she is giving me a CRAP FACIAL. I was actually asked to pay $5.26 or something like that afterward for tax. This made my skin crawl. Hi all So - I had initially begun going to Nicole about six months ago on a Bloomspot deal. The facial I received then was amazing. Based on how my skin glowed (and I have had many facials in different spas) - I went ahead and purchased about $100 worth of the Eminence products. I still maintain that the line of products are extremely good - I used to break out fairly often, but simply using the probiotic cleanser and moisturizer - no more breakouts. I feel like I have to give the spa and the facial treatments 2 stars this time because of my recent experience. I have had a total of three facials with Nicole, and I feel like each one has been less amazing. The main reason for my less than stellar review this time around is due to the following: 1) The extractions on my face have broken the skin, so I have about ten-eleven tiny scabs on my face where the extractions were performed. This is unacceptable - and I noticed that she was using her fingers at some points to remove the blackheads. If I am going to pay $90 plus to have blackheads removed in this manner, please let me know why I am not doing them myself? 2) I feel that with each visit, she gets more and more pushy with purchasing products or services. I feel terrible writing this - but she offered me a deal consisting of 6 facials for $450, where she would then throw in two extra services - but only if I paid her all at once. I said I needed to think about it- and could I do it the next time I came to see her. Her answer was no, the deal is only good for this week. I'm sorry, but that does not make a great deal of sense, nor does it speak for good business - I was a clear repeat customer. The set up is a bit rickety. I tried this from a Lifebooker which was my first mistake. I got a brazilian "organic" wax -- and immediately had a TERRIBLE rash for 2 weeks. It ruined my entire vacation. Red, raised, itchy leathery skin. I won't ever be back here. Now, to make matters worse, because I bought a 3-pack of waxes on Lifebooker, they and Green Zen Organic Spa won't give my any of my money back. Holy hair follicles Batman! I hate to give a bad review for services that I know are usually much better. So I am being generous by giving a 3 star review, but keep in mind, that is ME being GENEROUS. There was no one at the desk when I arrived and other girls were waiting for some time before someone came out and took care of us. The esthetician was nice and apologetic and ushered me into a room. She explained that a couples' massage earlier had thrown off their entire schedule. I wasn't in a hurry, but she seemed flustered and that ended up affecting the waxing job she gave me. YOWCH! There is a HUGE difference between being quick and efficient to just plain all out rushing. She was the latter. It made her careless and the job messy. She was getting strings of hot wax all over my legs, doing parts over again, and ripping in the wrong direction. She was also not using enough wax and trying to take off too much hair at a time. Ever had a section of wax-covered hair get STUCK halfway while being ripped off and have to pull it over again and again? Yeah, THAT happened. Luckily, I'm no stranger to waxing, so while there was pain, it wasn't new or unexpected so it's not like I was traumatized. The esthetician was SUPER nice and apologized for the rushed job, so I appreciate that. But I think it's fair to give a heads up to newbies who are doing this for the first time. HOLY FRIJOLES, BATMAN. LOVE. I went here for a lifebooker deal where you could get a massage, facial, shampoo and blowout for $125. I was thinking "even if it's not very good, that's still a damn good deal so I'm okay with that." It's located in Medulla salon, which I was less than impressed by--the furniture was busted and the music was pretty terrible. So I was a little nervous. But as soon as Ying, who is the facialist and I think the manager of the spa itself, came out, things just got exponentially better. First, I asked if I could make a substitution, because I have about 1" of hair and therefore a blowout isn't going to do me a lot of good. I've asked this before with other spa packages and always been told "no," which is fine, they just do my hair real pretty and send me on my way. But she informed me that I could get my massage AND my facial extended to 90 minutes each for the same price and I was like "SOLD." I had to fill out the standard pre-spa paperwork but I knew I was in good hands because they actually talked to me about it--about what I wanted to get out of my massage, etc. The treatment room was HUGE and cozy. I totally have the same curtains in my guest room. It's nice and well-thought-out but not swanky, which I actually like in a spa because it shows that I'm not paying for their furniture, I'm paying for the products and the skill of the service providers. Since they're on the 8th floor, they make great use of the natural light in the room, and it's a very warm and relaxing environment. Also, because the room is big, they can do all the treatments in the same space, so you don't have to get up, get dressed, go to another room. The massage and facial themselves were literally the best I have ever had, and I don't say that lightly. I felt like an entirely new person afterward. Everything was really customized to my skin and my needs, especially in the facial; I'm in the awkward place of having skin that's really sensitive AND really acne-prone (I believe the technical term is "screwed") and afterward, I looked great. Even post-extractions, they spent so much time taking care of my face that you couldn't even tell I had a facial except for the fact that I looked so awesome--there was none of the tightness or shininess or swelling that I typically have afterward. This is the first time I've ever used a group-discount-site and said, "you know what? I would have totally paid full price for that and not felt the least bit bad about it." They've made a lifelong customer out of me, that's for sure, and I would highly recommend it to anyone else. I can't say enough good things here. read more

I went to Green Zen for a Brazilian wax due to the salon's positive reviews on Yelp. I read that most people found the salon and its staff very nice and sensitive to the painful process of a wax, which instantly attracted me considering I have zero tolerance for pain. Unfortunately, I did not share said experience. Perhaps the woman who waxed me was having an off day, or maybe she was new. She lacked sensitivity and patience altogether. She must have been a robot. As a woman, you would think she'd have some sympathy about the process of having multiple hairs ripped off your crotch. Anyway, her only concern was getting the job done. The hard wax she used was less painful than the normal soft wax, but the area of coverage is much larger -therefore I found the hard wax to be equally as painful as the soft wax. Further, each time I asked her for a second so I could breathe(every few areas), she gave me no time at all and continued doing her work. Her attitude combined with the pain was a very bad combination. I ended up leaving before the wax could be completed. Plus, she missed quite a few hairs. I've had a more thorough waxing from the dinky nail salon around the block from me for less than half the price. Freaking robot. read more

I bought a Groupon for 5 hard wax Brazilian treatments. The first wax went great. On the 2nd wax, I caught the technician was using soft wax, which always takes off a layer of my skin. Instead of stopping, she became argumentative. Imagine laying there, exposed to the world, and having a person doing what she thinks is best to your nether regions. I almost felt victimized. Sure enough, she injured me. When I called to complain, she answered the phone and got into it with me again! Finally, the owner or manager called to complain, and they gave me an additional wax for free. I had no more incidents of that nature, but found the cleanliness of the place to be questionable. The bathroom was always dirty (sometimes no tp, sometimes no soap to wash your hands), and the last time I went, they hadn't even cleaned up from the previous customer when they showed me into my room. There was a PILE of pubic hair mixed with powder on the table. Gross. There was also a funky, moldy smell, but I assume maybe the building was having a plumbing issue or something. Disappointing experience! Had a Groupon for a 60-minute Green Rejuvenation Facial + Bright eye treatment. Booking the appointment was not a problem. I did it via email. It is run by asian women. I see that this place had good reviews for waxing, but I think I not be returning to this place for any service. - Location: It is behind the hair salon Midoma, and shares the same 1 restroom with the hair salon, so it can take a while before you can use it. When I arrived I had to fill a form, and was taken into the facial room right away without asking for water or anything. This is a no frills place, very tiny. My esthetician took a quick look at my skin and said that it was combination skin type, which I had already filled out in the form. The facial was done using Eminence line of products (organic products from Hungary). - I have had fantastic facials in the past, albeit in other countries and was expecting a lot from this facil. However, this was no where close to what I have experienced. She first applied the cleanser followed by a scrub. I I use the Clairsonic Mia and I get fantastic results, so I felt this 5 minute scrubbing was a joke. - Next came a face mask (yoghurt and strawberry) which was massaged on my skin for 5 min and then wiped off. - After that came a cucumber mask that was massaged (apparently to lighten the spots/marks on the face) for 5 minutes. - Then two pieces of marble stones with a rounded ends (think the shape of a pestle), that had been soaking in ice water applied gently around the eyes (in order to constrict the blood vessels, and decrease dark circles). No neroli serum was applied after the cold bright eye treatment as the add stated! (Neroli age-corrective eye serum infused with a natural retinol alternative and green-apple stem cells) - After this a toner was applied with finger tips on the face (note nothing again around the eyes) and the facial was finished with a moisturizer. - After the facial she gave me a shoulder rub (claimed as shoulder massage). So all in all the facial was meh, lasted around 35-40 minutes max, the shoulder massage 6-7. minutes. My esthetician tried to up-sell me the eminience line of products quite a bit after my facial, saying how badly my skin needed it. I have been using great products from Pai and Kahina for some years now. So I did not want to buy something, but just how much she was trying to convince me soured my experience even further. read more

Bought 5 Brazilian waxes on Groupon. Pro: Their organic hard wax is the least painful wax I have ever had and would recommend it for people who have sensitive skin and getting their first ever wax. The place is clean and the waiting area is peaceful. They don't double dip but would peel off the hard wax of the Muslim strip to reuse it again. Con: First time, the technician (I don't remember her name) waxed off a piece of my skin and I was in pain for a couple of days after. For the remaining sessions, I was constantly asked to purchase their wax packages. It's very expensive without Groupon. Also if you bought 5 waxes, you have to use all of them before the expiration date or else the remaining sessions become invalid. I was only able to use 4/5 waxes because my Groupon expired before I was able to come in for my last one. read more

I can't believe people actually spend $78 on a Brazilian here--even J Sisters is less expensive at $75. Thankfully I had a Groupon for $29. Perhaps it's because they do the waxing in the same rooms they use for massages and body treatments--the room was pretty and relaxing, but those aren't necessarily my top priorities when going for a bikini wax. I really just want an efficient and experienced waxer who is familiar with all the styles and techniques and doesn't require a lot of direction or participation on my part. This was a little too awkward for my liking. Nicole was very nice, but seemed very confused and frankly a bit judgmental about my preferred style of bikini wax. I've been getting bikini waxes for 10 years and I've heard it referred to as a Hawaiian, a deep French, and a modified Brazilian (skinny triangle on top, tapering narrowly down the sides, everything off the back), so clearly it is not that uncommon--in fact gyns are now recommending this style since they're seeing so many women come in with infections from getting too much hair removed from the most intimate regions. Anyway, after giving me quizzical looks and asking me if I had ever done this before with disbelief, she did an okay job, but I could have done without the visible sense of irritation that I just didn't want everything off. Also, a few days later, I'm noticing the less than thorough results in the areas that I did want waxed. I honestly have no idea why the reviews and prices are so high for this place. It was just okay. As others have mentioned, the location at the back of another salon is confusing with no one to direct you once you step off the elevator, and I'm still not sure if they're part of the other salon or if they just share a bathroom or what. read more

I got a hydrating rejuvenation facial at Green Zen over the weekend with Michelle. My skin felt very great after the treatment, their products are 100% natural; they smell and feel fabulous. Michelle did a great job, but I was very surprised to hear that extractions were an extra $30 (on top of the $115 already paid). I have never heard of this before simply because extractions are such a standard part of any facial treatment. "Meh. I've experienced better." That is yelp's description of 2 stars and it's exactly how I feel about Green Zen Organic Garden. I purchased a Groupon for a brazilian wax for $29. A day or two after I called to schedule my appointment. Ring, no answer. I receive a call back 30 seconds later after placing another call. I call again once finished with my call, no answer. I wait holding my phone in front of me and alas 30 seconds later they call back. I was able to get an appointment the next day, which was nice. I also texted a few hours later to reschedule an hour earlier and they were able to accommodate. Easy, but a little strange. When I get my appointment I ring the buzzer for the 8th floor a few times and no one lets me in the building. After a couple minutes I finally go in when someone is going out. I soon find out that the elevator is out of service. I wish I had noticed this when reading the yelp reviews (it appears it's been out since at least September, maybe July...) or that they'd mentioned this over the phone. A sign says to go to the service elevator 2 doors down. I ring a bell and wait, wondering if I could actually be in the right spot. Turns out I was. The elevator opens up to a very busy hair salon. I had high hopes at that point, but then I'm directed to the back. The salon area itself seemed fine. Nicole was my waxer. I told her it wasn't my first time but that it had been a very long time and I still get really nervous. She did nothing to try to calm my nervous. Other waxers have made me laugh, gave me tips like breath out on the rip, and asked how was I was doing and she did none of this. Also, as others have mentioned the only thing separating the room was a divider so while I only heard a person in the room next to me at the beginning I'm sure they heard me nervously saying things the whole time. It felt like Nicole was going over a lot of the same spots again and again and again, which I thought was weird, but when all was said and done she had gotten almost every single hair. I was also a tiny bit bruised which she told me was from me kicking around (I know that is my fault, but at least try to be a little helpful!) When I went to pay I was told I needed to pay $1.25 for tax. I wish I could remember exactly what the tipping said said. I know it mentioned something about 20% and whatever it was it took me back and put a bad taste in my mouth. They gave me a card for future waxes for $46, cash only. She is warm and welcoming and kind. I highly recommend this place for waxing, it was completely painless if you can believe that. Everything the spa uses is 100% organic. Ying prepped the skin with an oil. The waxing is done without using strips so it does not pull any skin off, the wax only sticks to the hairs which prevents unwanted side-effects from waxing like ingrown hairs. She then applied lotion to the waxed area. I highly recommend this spa for waxing and look forward to giving it a try for facials. read more

I had a great experience at Green Zen Organic Spa! I purchased a Lifebooker deal for 3 Vitaskin Facials with eye treatment for $89 (regularly $405). I was excited to get such an awesome deal and book my first appointment. Booking each appointment was very easy. I called to make the first appointment and then booked the following two in person. The staff there was very accommodating and friendly. I had a different staff member for each of my three facials and at each appointment they took time at the beginning to assess my skin and customize the facial to the needs of my skin. Each facial was great, and I left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and my skin feeling healthy. They also told me what each of the products were, and what the product would do for my skin. It was very informative. At my second appointment, the staff member had set the timer wrong and actually cut my appointment about 10 minutes short. Realizing her mistake, she made a note for my third appointment and they gave me an extra 10 minutes. I also liked how they did not pressure me into scheduling any future appointments after my I had used up my LIfebooker deal. read more

I went here on a recommendation from a fellow yelper and used a lifebooker deal to get a brazilian wax for $32. Jennifer was my waxer and both her and the owner are really nice. Both soft and hard wax were used and Jennifer was very meticulous in making sure minimal strays were left behind. It definitely wasn't painless but I was also extra sensitive from a previous waxing nightmare. I told Jennifer my last wax was terrible and at checkout the owner gave me a sample of cactus lotion to help with any post wax irritation - a simple gesture that added a nice touch. The wax room is very serene with smells of aromatherapy candles , a fountain, and soothing music. Booking your next appointment same day gets you a punch card for reduced future waxes and a free 6th wax. I'm really happy with the results and I'll definitely return. Added bonus - If you drive and come on a Sunday, street parking is free and fairly easy to find. read more

Went for my second brazillian , the new location is nice although I did prefer the decor of the individual rooms in the previous location. A little more relaxing, however the new ones are not sterile or cold by any means. But I had a different waxer and she was not as good as the first lady I had, didn't get every single hair and there's a tiny patch of skin that was ripped off that I noticed after inspection - OUCH. She was SUPER quick which could be beneficial for people in a rush but after such a great first experience here I was just disappointed. read more

I ended up at Green Zen Spa today because Go Green is undergoing renovations. My Oh My this might've been a blessing in disguise. Nichole directed me to a room as soon as I got there. Everything was so clean and the room was spacious. Nichole engaged in conversation the whole time. The Brazilian itself was very minimal pain. My best experience so far. This place is worth a try. My only issue is that there is no light in the bathroom, only candles so it's dimly lit. However the service deserves five stars! See you soon Nichole. read more

I visited the spa sometime last week and it was quite an interesting experience...I was greeted pretty aggressively by this woman.( No clue what her role was) She was ill-mannered & spoke to me like I was stupid. After filling out my client form, I was let in by the ill-mannered woman, hoping to God she wasn't my therapist! Thankfully not! Tami ended up being my therapist & was so lovely! So sweet and did an amazing facial! I give her 5 stars for being a talented Esthetician. My skin had a glow for days! She definitely made up for the crazy lady but I will never return to that spa ever again. read more

I'm giving five stars for my experience with waxing here: 1 Star: The spa was flexible with my appointment time, as I was running about 20 minutes late the morning of my appointment. 2 Stars: The technician was pleasant and friendly, but didn't try to over talk with me. 3 Stars: They use hard and soft wax. The hard wax isn't as painful and the soft wax does a better job of cleaning up stray hairs. 4 Stars: Quick, easy and not as painful as you'd imagine. 5 Stars: They accept credit cards, even for tip. read more

I usually don't review on spa but I gotta review green zen.. I bought a groupon for 3 waxes and I am so glad I did.. Absolutely pain free and I don't even remember I was doing waxing.. They are all professional and very friendly so I am very happy to tip them more for their amazing service.. Upon entering, you need to go through the salon.. and head to green zen.. the spa is very clean and welcoming.. You feel warm and relaxing in this environment.. I came here 3 times and so far I have been loving it.. They gave me a VIP card for their waxing service.. I will totally recommend this place to anyone that is into waxing.. I know.. some salon just KILLS ME!!! You can also visit their sister spa Go Green which located around chinatown/little Italy.. Still awesome. I came for the massage/body scrub and facial package deal + lunch at Wild Ginger. Part II of the Bloomspot certificates I bought months ago. I waited until the day after a 15k race to schedule my massage and it was totally worth it. The main elevator is out of order, so I rode up the 'mobile office' freight elevator. Filled out two forms, got ready and relaxed. Alisa did a wonderful job and applied just the right amount of pressure. I did mention the race, and was so happy when she paid extra attention to my super sore legs and feet. I only wish there was more sound proofing. It's not terrible, but I look fwd to peace and quiet during spa treatments. Also, the scrub part of the massage I could have done without. The facial doesn't include extractions (that's extra $$), but I still enjoyed it. Each cream or lotion that went on smelled better than the last. My skin glowed when I left. And I still have a free lunch at Wild Ginger to cash-in. If you ever see a Bloomspot deal pop-up with this spa - don't hesitate, it's totally worth it! read more
