Such incredibly friendly staff, they were so accommodating and generous with their time and knowledge during wine tastings. Love the grounds of the winery, take a walk around and enjoy the live music while visiting the small petting zoo and greenhouse areas. The wines vary in taste and there is something for everyone, from dry to very sweet. I love this winery! It's so pretty and serene. They have animals on the farm and some roam free. I love the dry wine and sparkling from here. They have a food booth and also snacks for purchase in the store. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. In the springtime they had an entire garden of tulips that was gorgeous. They do have weekend festivities and live music and open the space up inside so they can be open year round. read more

I want to give this winery more stars based on the scenery and ambience, however the overall experience on Mothers Day was a bit underwhelming unfortunately. We went early to get our tables, we had a large group and were allowed to put some tables together which was nice. No outside food or drinks at this winery and they were serious about it. My daughter who has celiac and usually cannot eat at most places had brought some meat cheese and crackers and none of it was allowed in. When it came time to order some food she had so few options, in the end ordered the chicken salad which came with not kidding 3 or 4 small pieces of chicken with a blob of potato salad on iceberg lettuce for $16.00. It was pathetic and she could only eat the chicken (and hoping for no cross contamination) cause she had no idea what was in the potato salad and the lettuce was old. So disappointed with that. We all ordered food, were told 15-20 minutes, waited forever and finally almost 45 minutes later our food was ready. I have issues with this, if you can't do a better job with your food service then let people bring in their own like most wineries do. Moving on, went in to taste some wine and one person was working the tasting room. She seemed flustered and basically poured us one sample, told us nothing of the wine, then helped someone else and didn't come back to us. We left, just walked into shop and bought one white and one red -Reserve was the red I selected and it was very good. The place is shaded, lots of seats, farm animals around, plenty of parking, and a market to shop in. I would give the place another try and not on a big crowd holiday type of day. And the owners really need to consider an exception for people with dietary restrictions like celiac disease. read more

This peaceful and serene getaway nestled in the countryside is a perfect place for an hour, or for the day, to enjoy not only the variety of wines and foods, but the varied weekend entertainment as well! There is an abundance of room for both intimate and large groups to enjoy without feeling over crowded. If you want a unique and memorable place to host an event, this is it! The only thing that would prevent it from being a 10 out of 10 is having the climate to permit year round outdoor enjoyment, but with the change of seasons in PA, makes it prohibitive. read more

I visited Greendance Winery for a wedding in July. What a gorgeous wedding venue. Also a fantastic place to spend the day. The place has alpaca, sheep, vineyards, berry trees, an apple orchard, a restaurant, a market, a wine tasting room. The wedding location at the farm was picturesque and the reception was in a tent a short walk from the wedding. The winery serviced several of there wines at the reception as well as their in house catering and house made berry pies. I don't know which was better, the Syrah wine or the blueberry pie. The event was awesome. The next day, we decided to go back to the winery and farm because the place was so fantastic. We purchased a bottle of my favorite the Syrah and ordered lunch outdoors in this beautiful setting. We purchased two berry pies and berry cookies to bring home. I actually trekked all the way through the Pittsburgh airport to Tampa to bring the pie and cookies home. They were a huge hit at home and work! Love this place! read more

We made the trek from the South Hills out to Greendance for a Sunday afternoon with friends, and we all had the BEST time! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by one of the staff members who told us where everything was, as well as updated us on their COVID precautions. Because of COVID, there were not doing any tastings inside, you couldn't bring in any outside food, and the tables outside were all spaced at a distance. Where some wineries have mostly sweet or dry ones, Greendance had so many different wines to choose from, with literally something for every taste (and even some beer cans, if wine isn't your thing)! The atmosphere was very laid back and fun, and they even had a live band playing for the entire afternoon. They did have some food and desserts available to purchase, but the line was pretty long, so we just purchased some grab and go sandwiches and bags of chips. The snacks and wine were delicious, and we will definitely be! read more

They often have live music, which adds a lively touch and makes the atmosphere even more enjoyable. When it comes to snacks and food, they've got a nice variety to choose from. We appreciate that it's counter service, so we can go at our own pace! During our last visit, we couldn't resist trying their cheesecake ice cream, and it was absolutely amazing. And of course, their wine selection is solid and has something for everyone. I love the winery and the grounds, and feel the layout of the place is fantastic. I would recommend the winery to anyone in an instant...I love them! The wines truly are fantastic. You can even grab a bottle, and go sit outside and enjoy it. If I could give the food booths a separate rating, I would. I like them, and the food is good, but the prices are a little high compared to the portions, and some things are just "too high" that should not be. The good: Lovely property. Farm animals are fun to see. Live music. It's easy to find a spot outside where you can enjoy the sounds of the performance while also holding a conversation. As a group of four, we managed to find a wine we all liked so we could share a bottle. They have picnicky foods and fruity desserts as well (though we didn't have the opportunity to check out those desserts). The neutral: Older crowd if that's what you're looking for. Anyone under the age of 45 might possibly feel a little out of place. We are all in our mid-to-late thirties. The frustrating: Lack of basic wine knowledge, some food issues, and inconsistent service. We used to work in the VA wine industry and frequently bought cases throughout that area, so we always appreciate informative tasting notes and prefer to know the details of what we're potentially tasting or buying. Unfortunately, our tasting room server could not answer my husband's questions regarding what wines were light-bodied, full-bodied, fruit-forward, tannic, smooth, savory, etc. It made choosing a wine (especially when you can only sample three) difficult.  The Margherita pizza we ordered was extremely saucy and very messy to eat. When we asked them if the cheese board included meat, they said no, so we ordered one. Just a heads up that there's definitely meat. Also, be aware that the cheese is pretty spicy. As mentioned above, we are all in our mid-to-late thirties. When we went to sample the wines, two of us were treated like we were in our early twenties, with the off-putting phrasing of, "I'm gonna need to see some ID." The younger two in our group were not carded. A more cordial, "Hey, can I just check IDs real quick?" to all in the party, or just treating the entire group like adults, would have gone a long way. While minor differences and human error come with the territory of tastings, the pour volumes were noticeably inconsistent from person to person and wine to wine. When my (nearing forty) husband purchased wine from the shop, another woman scrutinized his license. Our friend, who bought a bottle right after, offered his own unprompted, saying something to the effect of, "I'd assume you'd want mine, too, since I'm five years younger," to make a point: Be consistent with your service. All in all, the outdoor spaces are very pretty, and it was a fine midway place to catch up with a couple of friends who moved out to the country, but I'm not sure we'll go back. read more

While coming back from visiting Fallingwater, my wife and I decided to check out the Greendance Winery. It's a delightful little winery in a scenic farm setting. While on a road trip, we found this little gem. Though I am not a sweet wine girl, my cousin is and she found a wine she really liked. I tried some of their dry reds and the Cab Franc is amazing! There was flatbread pizza that was also amazing we took to go. Cole was our pourer and he was absolutely fantastic!!! He's extremely friendly and accommodating. We've been here several times. It's a nice winery. But recently they made changes. They have food for sale now We came out with friends. We asked several times to get a fire going for us. But we took it I to our hands and started it. The only complaint was that it was cold outside, even started to snow in October, and we asked 3 times to have someone come out and start the fire. They ignored our requests. We had to start it on our own. We spent a decent amount of money on wine here. I'd expected a better support team from this place. Management, If you want people to keep coming back, then help them out in a required time like this. read more

Greendance Winery is not your typical winery. It was like a little village surrounded by beautiful gardens and patios. This was the first time I visited and it was more than I expected! We visited the wine tasting bar first. You can receive 6 complimentary tastings, which I really enjoyed. I love white wines, so I recommend the Sangaree, Diamond, or Niagara! The Isabella, which falls under the Blush category, was also delicious! After we sampled wine, we went outdoors to get a bite to eat. The Cabin had sandwiches, salads, and sides to choose from. I had the chicken salad sandwich with a side of pasta salad. Very delicious! Next to The Cabin is Sand Hill Berries and Desserts. I highly recommend cheesecake with a scoop of ice cream! They have other desserts, but the cheesecake was recommended to us. I would recommend visiting Greendance. There's a lot to see and it's very pretty to walk around. read more

The atmosphere is five stars. The greenery is beautiful and the seating was great. The service was fast for the amount of people that were there. The bluegrass band was really good. The people that were there were very friendly. I really wanted to like the wine and food, but is was not good, at all. Both were expensive. The menu, that is mostly sandwiches, I expected it to taste great and blow it out of the park, it did not. The mozzarella, tomato sandwich had zero flavor, not seasoned at all. The veggie wrap did not taste fresh at all and was drenched in oil. The $25 cheese tray was a 5x6, if that, with a couple pieces of fruit, a couple crackers, pita chips, etc. There were 10 people in our party and no one liked the food. I could have put a better charcuterie board together for $25 that would have been amazing and bigger. The wine was not good at all. Our table bought many different varieties to try and they just did not meet our expectations and they were way overpriced. I will definitely not return as there are way better wineries out there that's with the price, i.e., Narcisi Winery is fabulous. read more

Meh: The raspberry vinaigrette. The BAD: The hilly roads to get here if you don't take the freeway. No organized guided tour. You are left to wander? The bland pies are made with Crisco and not lard, so the crust is lousy. The accompanying ice cream skip this. The long wait for the food. Only (2) ladies worked the booth:-(. The upcharge for water $2 at the food booth, but $1.50 in the pie store? They should've comped water for the time we stood in line waiting for the food. The pasta salad with garbanzo beans is sad. I'm not sure what the difference is between this place and San Hill Berries... We stopped here while visiting other sites in the area, found it on Yelp. Our visit was nice, wine tasting and lunch, but besides being a pleasant place to spend a long lunch hour, there wasn't that much else to do. From the food "shacks" we got the Summer Berry Salad which was good, as was the Raspberry Cheesecake, and a couple Frog Truffles from the shop. I enjoyed looking at the goats and listening to the live music. The shop took all of 5 minutes to browse and then we were done. I thought there would be a tour of some sort or at least a nursery shop to purchase plants. Food was a bit pricey. read more

Do you like fresh fruit, pies, and wine? Are you looking for an escape from the city to a beautiful pastoral setting? If so, you need to check out Greendance and Sand Hill Berries stat! If you can't make it out to Mt. Pleasant, never fear--they sell their wares at many of the local famers' markets in PGH, including Market Square, East Liberty, Phipps, and Turtle Creek (the wine is only available at some of these). So, there's really no excuse not to check them out--and you're missing out if you haven't done so yet! I told CM about Greendance/Sand Hill some a month or so ago, when I found it on Yelp, so I was ecstatic when he chose it as our destination last weekend. Given that they allow you to bring your own food for a picnic, I packed lunch and a nice spread of snacks for enjoyment with the wine. We started in the tasting room, where you can try several varieties of grape and other fruit wines that they have to offer, and they were generous with the samples. We purchased a bottle of the sparkling Isabella wine ($20)--our favorite of the bunch--to enjoy with lunch, as well as a bottle of their signature raspberry wine ($16) to enjoy with dessert later on. We then headed over to the farm store, where we picked up a carton of fresh red and golden raspberries ($5), as well as a chocolate raspberry cookie ($1). I also picked up two pies that I'd special ordered ahead of time (strawberry rhubarb and chocolate raspberry; $10 each) to enjoy for dessert later in the day. All of the employees that we interacted with at the winery, farm store, and elsewhere on the property were friendly and helpful. After having made our purchases, we proceeded to the picnic tables in the apple orchard to enjoy them. Because we visited on a Sat., there was live music from a classic rock cover band, which we couldn't see from our location, but could hear perfectly well. The setting was stunningly beautiful--everything was so green and lush, with the flowers in the nearby nectar garden lending bright splashes of color. The Isabella wine was absolutely delightful--it was semi-sweet and refreshing, with the bubbles adding a nice touch of fizz. The cookie was soft and delicious, and the raspberries lent a deliciously juicy burst of flavor. Although I didn't try the pies until later, they were mouthwateringly delicious, as well, with the juicy ripe fruit as the highlight, and the other elements and flavors as perfect complements. We concluded our time on the property by taking a walk around to explore a bit, and saw some prairie chickens scuttle into the berry plants by the driveway as we enjoyed a beautiful view of the Allegheny Mountains in the distance. Other than Mt. Washington, Greendance/Sand Hill was the most picturesque place that CM visited for a date, in terms of the location as well as the tasteful decorations. Despite being out in the Laurel Highlands, the route to the property is surprisingly well signed from the PA Turnpike. As if this weren't enough, their products are truly delightful--I will definitely be looking for them at the local farmers' markets. On the evening of the day of our visit, they were having an open air dinner, which sounded absolutely delightful, but was above our means at $70/person without special justification. If you're looking for something new and different to do, definitely check Greendance/Sand Hill out--it's well worth the trip! read more

Serendipity is defined as the phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. Call it what you like, but I was definitely in the right place at the right time last Thursday when I decided to spend time at the Market Square Farmer's Market before the Pirate's game. If I hadn't been strolling around with a serious sugar craving I might never have had the opportunity to eat at Greendance Winery's first "Open Air Dinner"... one of the most memorable dining experiences I've ever been lucky enough to attend. While there were several options for raising my glucose levels at the farmer's market, I decided on eating a slice of Three Berry pie from Sand Hill Berries, a farm located in Mt. Pleasant. My plan was to scarf down the slice with a cup o' Joe and then make my way to a pregame lunch date (don't judge me). About half way through, I decided I had to go back and give these guys some face-to-face kudos. This pie was loaded with plump blackberries, red raspberries, and blueberries and the crust was tasty but subtle enough to let the berries be the headliners. I was able to give my praises to Robbie Schilling. It is he who encouraged me to go over to the Greendance Winery table and speak with his wife, Amy, to sign up for their first Open Air Dinner. As it turns out, the Schillings are one part of the trio (along with the Vinoskis and Lynns) that brought the idea of having a winery on a berry farm to fruition. It was actually Diane, their tasting room manager, who gave me the scoop: wine tasting and amuse bouche (that's fancy speak for finger food) from 6-7pm at the Café and an outdoor family-style dinner from 7-10pm. Her description was lovely and the menu sounded almost too good to be true. For the reasonable price of $45 (tax/gratuity included), I was sold and super excited. On Saturday night, we hopped into the car with some of our favorite neighbors and took an easy drive out of the city into peaceful Mt. Pleasant. After checking in, we made our way to the tasting room. We tasted several wines (they have a full range, including fruit wines), and decided to go with their Pinot Gris for dinner. I don't even like Pinot usually, but Greendance does theirs right. With bottle and glasses in hand, we made our way out to the Café area to nibble on a spread of fruits, cheeses, and dips...even some spicy stuffed banana peppers. I was in Mt. Pleasant to visit family, and someone suggested going to Sand Hill Berry Farm for a special event they were holding with their sister entity, Greendance Winery. Given that we were literally a half mile from this lovely bucolic family run operation, I agreed to check it out. Very glad I did. The setting in a large vale off Rt. 819 north of town has always been charming, and a great place for raspberry products. I have been buying Raspberry Viniagrette for my salads there for more than a decade, and it was the best of breed nationally. Now, they were holding a festival to celebrate Fall and the completion of the most recent vintages from the new winery. The parking was in a newly mowed field above the activities. Upon entry a carnival atmosphere prevailed. There were multiple vendors selling Cheeses, Sauces, Dips, Salsas, Crackers, and of course, the wine tasting building was packed with folks getting their buzz on with the local vino collection. Compliments to the designers/architects of this layout for putting up a very attractive tasting room full of windows and a long bar with plenty of stations to accommodate everyone efficiently. Given the crowd, I decided I would return on another visit when I would have more time (and room) to sample the product and chat with the servers about their bottle labels. Returning to the mid-autumn afternoon, there was a live band playing onstage, the Hillbilly Gypsies, who were very polished and having a great time with the half-sotted audience. Spontaneous dancing broke out among the musicians and the folks below. Some pretty good clogging going on! After a few tasty purchases, and a small cup of free local sourced ice cream and Sand Hill berries and whipped cream, we were ready to head out. All in all, a great way to spend a few hours being entertained and mildly inebriated in a wonderful outdoor setting. It was so good it should be considered for a Yelp event in the future. read more

Greendance is connected with sand hill berries, both of these places are great- but them together and they are even better!! First the store has a bunch of fun items to purchase, there are some great gift ideas here as well. Now the wine is pretty good, they have a HUGE variety of a ton of different types- from sweet to dry. I prefer dry and I know I am in the minority in this area so it was a pleasant surprise to be able to try so many different dry wines. The prices are reasonable and again with that selection it would be hard not to find something you like. We also ordered a boxed lunch to go sit in the garden with. I was not expecting much from this boxed lunch at ALL. I ordered the turkey and assumed it would be on some cheap bread but I was hungry and desperate. Let me tell you this sandwich was SOOO good the bread was fresh and very tasty, asaigo cheese something. It came with pasta salad as well that was tasty.
